Well I think the difference is The Great Gatsby does have one narrator and Gatsby is the main character. In this, there are many narrators, some of them unreliable. And I still haven't figured out who the main character is. It's a story about many people told from the POVs of many people.

He saw nothing bc both the guards and Wuji testified he had already left the room when Huanyu showed up with the assasin. But SJ knew that the poison was in the hairpin and he made up the part about the missing infinite heat note for Wufeng. He was very careful to only share this story with the Elders and not ZY. Otherwise the contradicting testimony would be exposed.
