I agree the whodunit became too predictable early on. But does the chemistry really matter in this type of movie…
I don't mean romantic chemistry, which I think definitely doesn't matter at all. They are adversaries, similar to fake Li Muzi but I don't feel any intensity or conflict between them. I just saw two consummate actors delivering their lines perfectly at each other without ever seeming to communicate or connect on some level with each other. But no, it definitely doesn't ruin the show.

It is as I am afraid. What you like about it is the strong and independent FL and complex characters. That is very hard. There are so few well written FL roles out there, much less one that is focused on the FL as the main protagonist. Maybe Story of Minglan and Story of Yanxi palace but I didn't watch those bc I dislike harem settings intensely. Outside of that there is Rise of Phoenixes and Princess Agents but PA has other issues. I think TROP the ML is very dark and complicated and the FL is great until the last 20 episodes. Give that a try?

They can’t do that anymore. Once the news broke this went on hold. Evading taxes violates the celebrity moral code. This drama airing while that is being investigated would seem like iQiyi is endorsing that kind of behavior or endorsing her. It would put all their future dramas in jeopardy.

It was as I thought. She never really loved General Xue. She was just using him and now she needs another patsy and Shen Jinghong is her man. Though I think he may surprise her, he seems quite honorable and also admires Zhuohua. I just hope she doesn't kill the first prince. Its hard to see how she can seize the throne when the emperor already has three male heirs.
