So they fled north far from the Yangtze river delta where the capital is and where the civil war is taking place. When they get to Youzhou, they realize the Youzhou government (Fan and Zhou) is also trying to protect Youzhou and as a newly arrived very wealthy family with no support base they are prime targets. They decided to build goodwill for themselves and remove themselves from being targets by donating it all to the city's defense and to feed starving refugees. They chose Zhou whom they know nominally through his son rather than Fan who is a stranger to them. They left themself enough capital to start over from scratch.

Well the emperor seems quite broke and was berating King Liang, who was Minister of Revenue for failure to collect monies. King Liang is Jiang He's close ally and King Liang intends to rebel (probably was socking away revenue to build a private army?). Jiang He is Gu Jiusi's maternal uncle and trying to maintain his position at the court, hopefully by his nephew marrying a princess. Sounds like a mess, of course his parents just want to make money and keep their son out of this kind of stuff. Not to mention, a princess wife can be very high maintenance.

In general I don't want two seasons unless they shoot it all at once. Otherwise you get a cliff hanger/open threads that may never get resolved. Even JOL which was such a huge hit had such a hard time pulling S2 together.
