I don't think it is that easy for Xi to do that either. Endemic corrupton is a recurring theme in Chinese history - I doubt even Xi can fix that. He has already been accused of simply using that as an excuse to eliminate political enemies. Considering how opaque this kind of stuff and the legal process in China is, its hard to argue either way whether he has done that or not.

I won't do it line by line - he basically asks the lady if she is cramped and convinces her to swap with him saying she'd get more leg room and that he is traveling with An Ni anyway. Then he asks for a blanket.

I think its fine to publish a rating for a while airing drama if enough people have rated it but sometimes there are so few votes it means nothing. I have nothing against rating dropped dramas - it balances out overly positive rating bias, esp for the super long c-dramas that are a serious time commitment to watch to the end. I believe the algorithm weighs it by how many episodes you got through anyway so I think its fair.

Its a public company. He can only pass on his stake in the company to his children but it may not be large enough of a stake to get them elected as Chairman. Both Jack Ma and Pony Ma, the founders of the two largest Chinese internet companies own less than 10pct of their companies. It is rare in this space for founders to have controlling stakes bc they get diluted down by acquisitions and share awards to talented employees. I think even Jeff Bezos doesn't own more than 10pct of Amazon. Succession is usually planned and must be sanctioned by the board who have fiduciary to all stakeholders to nominate the most qualified successor.

Well that happens in China as well - government gets too close to business everywhere in the world. Recently the family of the governor (probably former now) of Zhejiang province was discovered to own more shares in Alibaba’s Ant Financial than they could possibly have made enough money ever buy… There is some hidden innuendo about Xiao Muen when Li Yitang told An Ni he is from Zhejiang. That is where all of China’s top entrepreneurs are from (ie Jack Ma) but they also have a problematic reputation for being a rebellious province whose businessmen are sharks. Of course Zhejiang is also the stronghold of Jiang Zemin’s power base and he was said to be the hidden power for decades until Xi’s rise challenged that but I doubt they show any of this openly in the drama. It’s interesting that Xiao Muen insists he is fromGuangdong and An Ni is subtly testing him over that with the tea and the plants…

Yeah you know the government paid for it bc they introduce all the various bureaucracies who don’t need to be in this at all.

I think Zhao Jikai’s phone buddy is the same overseas backer that seems to wants out of some investment they committed to make alongside Huaquan. Irl Tencent has a very big longtime South African shareholder. Zhao Jikai is gunning for the Chairman role and would need the support of this investor at the board level. I suspect this is the person who is pulling his strings. Chairman Yin so far is the smartest of them all - he gets it they need to stay on the right side of the government to not just survive but thrive. And he understands that it’s not just winning in terms of the letter of the law or using it to suppress criticism. He needs to win in terms of hearts and minds as well and he prefers Xiao Muen bc he has better instincts in terms of how to win the public relations war. I don’t think any of them have to be villains per se just normal people with different motives that don’t always make right decisions. I think the real villains are still the ones running the illegal gaming and other scams but they may or may not be related to the company.

Yeah hope so - it’s one of those no smiling parts which I just hate, the opposite of the OTT Su Yu!!!

Wow that is what I would call a train wreck ending.

My initial impression of this drama was and continues to be that it is very bland, Dilraba’s fantastic acting notwithstanding. I am watching for the social commentary bc I am interested in these cases and the public discourse around gaming addiction. I don’t really care much about any of the characters. I also think there are many much better written and made social commentary dramasl including Ordinary Greatness. While it was not entirely focused on cybercrimes, the one case in that raised all the issues in a much more riveting and effective narrative style. This one feels a lot more like a docu drama.

I am beginning to question whether this is really a People's Court tribute drama or a Tencent tribute drama. Because its just as much about the corporate's internal debate over how to do the right thing when it comes to internet gaming as it is about the Procuratorate and their process.

Yeah iQiyi has been very successful this year cutting costs by making good dramas with serious and less well known actors and spending money on scripts, sets and costumes rather than traffic actors, whose pay used to be 70pct of the budget before the government stepped it and capped it at 50pct. Which is still ridiculous... I just roll my eyes when Youku and Tencent boast about their S/S+ bc all it means is one or two super popular actors got paid obscene amounts of money.
