Well China has imposed strict online game time limits on minors to 3 hours a week from 8-9om only on Friday to Sunday and public holidays only. With facial recognition now parents can't even enable their kids by logging them in on their devices bc if the face changes the game stops. And that is why Nintendo and Playstation is so popular there but even that is controlled - people smuggle in the new games bc they limit how many can be distributed in China. Its quite crazy actually. The problem is only with young adults whom they can't restrict. But I guess it helps that they don't get addicted as kids. And they have been fining the internet companies repeatedly for the last 2 years. I think the CCP is basically the law so its much easier to impose thier will on the companies. No Congress or hearings or appeals to deal with. The companies are consulted and can appeal at the margin to the regulators to exercise leniency in implementation but that is about it. They are actually far ahead of the Western world on anti-monopoly, data privacy and social security benefits for part time gig workers.

I know there may seem to be an overwhelming number of smart Chinese people in the world. But there are also exceptions:

It is still such a widely used word today that to do that everywhere would change the meaning of the word to suit Western convenience. You can't dumb down shifu to just sir or maám, a common form address to even strangers. That is why most translators refuse to do that.
