From the trailer it looks like this drama focuses on the process of tracking down and arresting cyber-criminals. Which takes the investigators across international borders where they have limited official authority and status. I am glad they are focusing on the more action oriented aspects of building the case. Otherwise it could be very dry. And of course China's Procuratorate, like Japan's approach to the law is worse than "guilty until proven innocent" - it is pretty much "guilty as charged". In other words, the prosecution always wins with a 99.9 pct conviction rate. Yups, don't ever get charged with a crime in China (or Japan), you will be found guilty for sure. In the US the conviction rate varies by state but it's ~70-80 pct by comparison. That is also why Carlos Ghosn, Nissan's former CEO recently engineered a movie like escape from Japan rather than face "trial" there for fraud and stealing money from the company. The only matter to be adjudicated in countries like this is severity of punishment. In that sense, there is no drama or suspense to be made out of the prosecution proceedings itself so I was not sure how they were going to do it. This approach on the investigative aspects makes a lot more sense but idk why they didn't just call it a cop drama.

Some dramas in every category are going to be released for sure. The regulator is not trying to put them out of business. They just mean to send a message reinforcing their expected code of conduct by celebrities, with higher scrutiny on the more famous A-listers. Even during the longest "ban" which was over 6 months in 2019, each platform got to air one big drama - Longest Day in Changan (Youku), The Untamed (Tencent) and Love and Destiny (iQiyi). And a bunch of small low budget dramas. It's just that besides that there really wasn't much content that audiences really wanted to see. I would also point out at the time the cast of TU was unknown.

If you mean conspiracy heavy you can try Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty, Wind Blows from Longxi and Pledge of Allegiance.

I think Kunning’s materials were all approved before so iQiyi keeps releasing them anyway but it didn’t stop the drama being pulled and it has no date still so so what if they can promote it? If I were them I’d just go low key with PE and push it out quietly.

Hi again! Even trailers and promotions have to be approved. Including where the banner appears on their website!!! So if they got it approved then they can do it and if not then they can’t. I am just guessing in the current regulatory mood very few promotional materials will be approved. People also don’t t realize sometimes some dramas have few materials bc the platform themselves were too slow to get them approved ahead of time before airing. There is usually a backlog and the regulators take their own time they can’t be given dradlines.
