She is the only character true to what the original play is about. That is the crux of the main criticism of the show, the fact that it is so obsessed with purity in this day and age. Which is not exactly fair or true bc both YZ and Hao2 are prostitutes - high end ones but prostitutes nonetheless. What I find interesting is how she is being judged for eventually succumbing to her lot in life. These Yuan Dynasty plays are voices for social injustice and featured these kind of women sympathetically. Bc god forbid the FL Pan’er sold herself, YZ and Hao Hao are the only two characters true to the original spirit of the play.

Yeah she wasn’t after Pan’er’s man she didn’t know they were together. But she was attracted to QF and from her flashback she thought both QF and RZ are options. She was rebuffing RZ bc she knew the best he was gonna do is set her up as his mistress and she was hoping she could do better with QF. Once she saw that was off the table she hit RZ’s bid. It’s sad but I guess to her preferable to playing pipa at a public tea house. And her friend Hao2 is also kept by CP so she must feel it’s the best she can do for herself.

Those are pretty much my thoughts as well - I don't understand why the writer is so uncomfortable with ambition. The problem is the moment the writer started to change things from the novel, they had to make conforming changes that snowballed into SMZ and WXS seeming less intelligent. I don't understand why the screenwriter felt compelled to mess with a perfectly good story to begin with and keep thinking of that old computer logic flow chart that pretty much says if its not broken don't fix it.

Yeah its becoming increasingly rare to get really good fight scenes. Most of the actors are not trained to do them and increasingly reluctant due to work safety issues. Both Luo Yunxi and Ren Jialun among many others have sustained pretty serious injuries attempting tricky fight scenes. I don't really blame the actors for increasingly pushing back on them.
