I'm on ep7 and so far i find the FL very annoying. Fine, she has a sad past, but to make it her entire personality to be a brat and constantly making life difficult for people around her, including the people she claimed to be in love with? Nah. Even if she can't be useful, at least stop making other people's life harder, smh.
I'm barely 10 mins in and i'm already loving the ML. He's so hilarious and i relate so much to his 'I don't want titles cause I hate responsibilities' attitude. I hope he stays that way until the end.
In the manga, he’s shy and reserved, but very nice.
manga matsunaga is... as greenflag as an older man liking younger girl could be, i think. all characters behaved pretty reasonably. manga hojo is pretty steadfast in his adoration, but, in a non disruptive way.
Watching this in 2024 is kinda confusing. If i didn't came here and check the comments, I wouldn't know why the story has these weird jump cuts. I binged the whole show in 2 days with 1.25-1.5x speed and I think that's the only way to make this show watchable. The substance is quite thin, but still enjoyable. I'm personally surprised that the game part of the story, with all the serviceable sets and cgi, doesn't feel disruptive. Instead it enchance the feeling of being in a game world, and that's one thing that I appreciate.

I skipped a lot of parts but i just find it really cute every time cheng yao called her boss 'lao ba' XD I usually find FL who speaks cutely annoying but zhang ruo nan speaks really softly, so even though it sounds a bit too childish for a lawyer, it's somehow passed my vibe check. I wonder if she always speaks like this? This is the first time I watched her drama.
There's one scene on episode 4 that makes me confused, during the conversation before peter goes to bed with his mom, are they supposed to be talking in english? They're clearly dubbed and the lip movement kinda matched with the english translation LOL. But if that's the case, then why bother dubbing it back into Chinese? I mean, the show has no problem showing conversations using different languages so far, I wonder what makes this scene special.
A funny bits i got from watching another drama, was that the current trend of writers writing sad ending seems to be pandering for the global audience and I wonder if this works in chinese drama too. I understand that drama and tragedy usually go hand in hand in epic costume dramas. But like, how much of this, especially in this drama case, is caused by actual narrative purpose or by any other external purpose (editing, marketing, etc)? I think what makes lot of people disappointed with the ending, despite loving the drama itself, is that, it's a rare feat for a period idol drama to have such a winning ensemble of casts (a personal observation based on things i've watched this year). Everyone is smart and/or has excellent character development arc. But in spite of that, everyone dies. It just seems futile and hopeless, and like, we watch drama to be entertained, not to be trolled after believing and rooting for the characters. Also, the amount of people keep coming here after finishing the drama asking over and over again 'what's the meaning of the ending?' begs an additional explanation/FAQ page in the discussion section XD tagging this as a spoiler just to be safe
Seeing the costumes, I can't quite figure out what era does this show supposed to be based on. Or is it more like a fictional universe a la alchemy of souls?

I keep questioning that too, considering it's one of the main source of conflict. So far, the only reason i could think of is just to show how much grandpa wants to control taeha's life. Having a control over taeha's love life would mean the possibility of the past (where taeha's dad being in love to the point of abandoning his inheritance) repeating itself could be avoided. He accepted yeonwoo at the beginning because he thought she's just a bumbling fool that's not going to hinder his plan. Little did he know...

... I wish this show didn't take the easy way and make yeonwoo take the noble idiocy path. And I would not forgive them if they close this with an open ending. I have been hurt enough this year by cowardly writing that refuse to give a definite answer. If they're pulling a 'this has been all a dream' card, I will riot.
