Okay. I can finally feel this show is getting really popular among BL fandom based on the views on those illegal…
I've noticed the increase of interest as well and am really glad since this means a lot for future series. Japanese BL dramas had mostly been consisting of movies until recent years. It is strange that Japanese production of BLs was this low but I guess the focus was mostly on animation and manga.
Around 2007 there was an initial interest in filmed BL with movies like Takumi-kun but that style of BL (kinda over the top manga-like) died out after a few years. Then the next big thing was Ossan's love but I think the amount of comedy made it less appealing to a lot of BL fans (not me though, Haruta&Maki 4 life). I also assume that succes stories of the animated series (like Yuri!!! on ice) influenced the rise of BL dramas. Definitely it was Ossan's Love that directly paved the way for what we have today though
what does the water bottle drop means?? is that a recurrent situation in BL or am I just too dumb to get it??…
Oh I watched without subs cause I can understand enough basic Japanese and I've read the manga. I've seen some dedicated fans provide translations in the comments though and those are generally good. I think most people wait for fansubs though, probably best to do that
Kurosawa Yuichi is just such a wholesome character. I love how considerate he is and his expressions this episode were just topnotch. The water bottle drop though... I felt that in my soul.
Okay, it is sad story of mine to wait for every friday and then deadly sad to wait for subtitles....Which leads…
Then theres me who knows enough Japanese to understand the basic context but I still gotta rewatch it subbed to get the details. I love watching it though so I don't mind
Anyway, a show like Guardian is already a miracle of existence by itself. It does indeed barely pass the line to avoid being taken down like Addicted:Heroin (a popular BL). Some shows do get away with time travel or even reincarnation through clever use of storytelling....
-You see, what if the time travel is really just another dimension? Then its technically not time travel (yes, this excuse has been used in a drama). -Or what if its not reincarnation but tribulations to be overcome? This one is used by many Xianxia/Chinese fantasy. -For BL they've mostly turned to bromance. Sneaking in little references that indicate their actual status. It was a compromise since there is a large audience for BL in China.
You would really be surprised how much still passes the censors, its a fight between what the consumers want and what the government wants. Its also about the image they present to the outside world. Even dramas like Story of Yuanxi palace get criticised for failing to meet the standards when they become popular outside of China.
Japan doesn't produce that many gay dramas as of 2020, they've mostly been creating 2D boy love stories. As to why its loved, probably cause its a cute story with chemistry between the main leads.
right? i thought the same. there are only two episodes out so it's gonna stay in my ptw list for a while :D
I'm not making an excuse for any fans. Just talking about the different actor-environments, kinda picking a side-topic I wanted to talk about more. I know better than to try to defend the actions that some obsessed fans have done xD

Yeah its different in Thailand in comparison to Japan. In Thailand theres an established BL drama scene. Young actors could easily pick only/mostly BL roles if they wanted to.
That's NOT the case in Japan, BL drama projects aren't frequent enough yet for actors to be able to rely solely on that genre. So you get famous Japanese actors just doing one BL project but they move on again after that. Its also not like in Thailand where actors get famous because of BLs but usually already wellestablished Japanese actors doing the roles because they can.
I agree that 30sai has better romance than Ossan however Maki and Harutan did have chemistry in my opinion. I've…
I guess it was forced in the sense that Haruta never intervened in the love confessions to clearly reject anyone. However, in my opinion the drama does show Haruta making the choice for himself in the end. To me that was the most important thing.
Ossan indeed has the ML very openly panicked about any advancements the other MLs make to him. However, in my opinion the first episodes of 30sai have had their own share of this panic except its internally instead of externally like with Ossan. I don't doubt this will continue a while longer since Adachi has very little romantic experience, similar with Haruta.
Undoubtely 30sai will go further than Ossan in terms of showing an adult relationship since we have many more episodes for them to develop that. So I do think 30sai will exceed Ossan but I will still always love Haruta and Maki for what it was.
If someone finds a link to this movie please share. Older movies like this are often almost impossible to find. All I found was this scene in a Youtube video: /watch?v=n9dcqsixnl8
Edit: Its on gcinee which is not really a safe site considering its a lot of 18+ content. So consider that before looking for it. Not sharing the link here for obvious reasons.
The only drama I wait for:( If you ask why it's better than Ossan's love? because the main actors here are not…
I agree that 30sai has better romance than Ossan however Maki and Harutan did have chemistry in my opinion. I've definitely seen worse examples of the manga-style too like [Docchi mo Docchi] which is so extra that it might as well just be animated. I love that movie though, great comedy and iconic quotes.
Back to the topic. Its just that Ossans Love had to focus on jokes much more while 30sai is more focused on the development of the chemistry. For example they used the dedication to love of the male leads in Ossan as joke-material a lot which kinda took away the romantic impact. It didn't help that Haruta was a literal manchild at times for the sake of comedy, bless his heart though. However, certain scenes in Ossan really did convince me there was chemistry there and it was very natural too between Maki and Haruta. All in all, both series have their own strenghts. Ossan goes into comedy while 30sai is more into the romance-side. Maki and Haruta are a wholesome couple though.
