I agree with you, my kindred spirit. I hardly watch them these days, but I truly miss those pre 2015 \2016 dramas. It was genuinely Korean. Chaste, but passionate old world romance, with the Korean culture shinning through. The soundtrack, the mannerisms, the plot all very new and refreshing. Then came the Netflix and the west and everything went to the dogs so to speak. Sad, but what to do? However, once in a while a shining gem shines through-this drama is not it, though- and I guess that's better than nothing.

Here's my personal perspective: It's exactly because I wouldn't want such a scenario in real life, that I enjoy the thrill of it in reel life. I enjoy wuxia and xianxia with handsome vampires, grim reapers, gumihos and imagine I'm the fl; flying through the air with them, fighting with gravity defying moves and telekinesis etc. However, will I ever want to meet, much less fall in love with a mythical creature, no matter how handsome he is in real life? The answer is a resounding No. LOL! SO it's just for the thrill of it. As for dark romance, it's probably the same vicarious thrill seeking. Kinda like the domineering CEO or clingy ml type. Who really wants that in reality? But on screen, why ever not? LOL!

It says 47 episodes here. This waiting for it to drop piecemeal is bad for my drama health. So, imma step back, wait for the whole thing to drop, then binge. I wish you happy viewing!

I love the novel. Have read it twice and the second time was even better because many things I didn't understand the first time around, became clear and made me appreciate the book even more. Hope the drama does justice to such a great source material.

Ugh! Why waste more than half of episode 18 on that entitled, evil witch???? Director, do you know what the heck your audience wants at all? We didn't get to see the horse ride from the camp or him carrying the drunk fl, but you kept boring us with a delulu maniac for most of the episode? Better get your act together, or I'll haunt your dreams LOL!

Same here. I loved it at first, but rewatching it I felt she treated her crush better than the guy who actually liked her. But I've noticed this trend in asian dramas. The guy is always expected to give his all, with the fl doing the barest minimum if anything at all. I guess this is what they find romantic.

Fingers crossed, but I'm not hopeful. I abandoned kdramas for this very reason- the fl fousted another man's child on the ml. She never told him, was just using him. But when the ml found out, he was just grateful that she didn't leave him. This was presentes as love? But is it really? I dont mind blended families but deceiving someone about his/her bloodline is unforgivable. Only a cuckold would accept such deceit. I wonder, is this what women want? Well, this woman doesn't. I totally hope like you, that we see fair treatment of both ml and fl. If we don't want misogyny, then we also don't want misandry.

You're absolutely right. I think they're following the current anti-men agenda. You've noticed how they put men down but oresent it as love. I dropped it for this same reason. It's just not ok having an emotionally wishy washy fl. Cdrama writers you can do better. On to the next!
