Ikr? I can understand people not liking a drama that was advertised as something other than what it actually is. But, people complaining about a drama which is true to what it's advertised as, is mind boggling. I see that a lot here on mdl and I thought well, maybe it's an mdl thing; but it's really weird. Take BAYM, people were complaining about the food. Which is weird, because from the title alone, I deduced that food is the main character or the main lead. Everything else will be secondary and it's true to it's title, yet some commenters are complaining that it's too much about food! Ok, back to the drama. Cheers!

I'm watching this but I don't understand why chinese netizens are angry. If anything, it should be Americans at the way America is being portrayed. Anyway, if I ever run for President and everyone's trying to off me, I know who I'll be hiring as my bodyguard or, or, and this is more likely, if I just want a hunk who can cook and shoot.

The last episode is such a huge let down for me. This reminds me of the second half of SITR which ruined an otherwise flawless drama. Overall, it's been beautiful to watch. I just wish we could've had a more comprehensive ending.

Don't watch this for the passion or you'll be disappointed.

I'm not sure I want to watch the remaining episodes, I don't think I can handle the angst, good Lord! Also, this supposedly tyrant king should be the most disrespected king in all of Joseon. The grand dowager chastises him at her will in public; his side piece talks at him at the top of her voice and even has her own aged side piece on the side; the ming eunuch openly disrespects him at will, yet was still able to return to Ming with his limbs intact; his ministers continue to harangue him even when he tells them to stop, even the dowager queen has the temerity to lock up his person at will and they're all still alive and well. Yet, he's a tyrant? He's the bad guy and they're all saints? Wow!!! I'm also not sure how I feel about the romance-can't believe after all this chemistry and this build up, we're going the "you like me, so I like you too route". I mean, my girl has been cooking up a storm and struggling to stay alive, so it's perfectly understandable that romance is the last thing on her mind. Still, like Oliver Twist, I wanted to be wowed with something that is not this. My heart goes out to them-the poor girl who just wanted to be a Michelin star chef and ended up in a pressure cooker and the poor lad who is king, but in name only.

Enjoyable episode. The competition was very well handled, without denigrating either country. I like the wholesomeness of the cooks on both sides, but the Ming cooks won my heart-especially the head cook-with their honor. Also, that head-butt is like MSG for my eyes. The Ming envoy had it coming. The Queen mother admonishing the King in public isn't on. She could've blistered his ears in private. He's a king after all. That said, it's titled BAYM, so I understand that food is the main character here and I'm totally on board with it; however, I was hoping for a little romance between the leads before the inevitable tears. It seems that's not gonna happen.

And it doesn't look like she'll have her head chopped off for it, because she's still yelling at the king in the preview, justifying her evil.

Agreed. She's so good, I get hives whenever she comes on screen. Fantastic actress, because I thoroughly hated her character. I actually cheered when she cried after the fake pregnancy.

ikr? I'm beginning to believe C and K netizens are mostly toxic in nature. Not all of course, but a good many of them, because all these overreactions and prying into the lives of artists as if it's their right makes me believe their own lives are so miserable they have to mind other people's business to find some purpose to life.
