They didn't grow up together. They just met each other when Lin Mao came to stay with his sister to study for the imperial exam, so just a couple of months. To each their own. I didn't find the relationship icky. I have a large extended family too. My dad has 7 siblings and my mom has 4 siblings so if I were to claim all my aunts and uncles' (by marriage) relatives as my relatives...too many to count. They are all strangers to me.

Why? They are not related. Lin Mao is her aunt (by marriage)'s brother. I don't even know my aunt's (by marriage) siblings or parents and have never met them since we are not even related. The only reason my aunt is related to me is through my biological uncle.
