Yup it's a cultural thing. I'm Chinese and cousins with the same surname, we used to call each other sisters and brothers. We don't do it any more since we are not in China and it's not what is done here, so we just call each other by names now. I don't even address my older sister Jei anymore.

Yeah it's not very consistent. I'm really not sure why some dramas can have so much intimate/bed scene shown while others, just two persons going down and cut.
