Yup, I feel if they had gone up to 40 eps, they could have referenced it because it would have been so good to see the 2 women being independent and living well.
novel readers, please share what happened to You Fangyin in the novel?
She also died but apparently her death was more to do with the fact that she was JXN’s business partner and the money they made was helping the Yans and XW.
Although they altered the ending to be less dark, they seemed to have tied up all loose ends, so kudos.
The only death I felt was quite pointless was YFY - why oh why grab the guy's leg when a kungfu expert is standing by?
Douchebag Dad should definitely get an award for being consistently and persistenly douchey right up to the bitter bitter end.
Loved that the characters mainly stayed true to themselves and the plot did not implode. Loved that JXN was allowed to remain smart and able to stand up for herself, whether facing XW, the Empress Dowager or King Pingnan. I was like Yes! this is how I want to see BL in a period drama, not dumbed down halfway as she so often is.
But most of all love, love, love ZLH's portrayal of XW's cray cray (even if it got rather uncomfortable at certain points) and his ascent into the light. And not forgetting his off-the-chart jealousy. Has there been any ML in cdramas as petty and mean as XW? Or as crazily willing to get stabbed for his beloved? Truly a study in extremes and not a conventional romantic lead. As JXN says, a bad guy like him should survive and live well and now he will in this production of SOKP.
It's not perfect, especially with the sucky, distracting and pointless lighting, strange wind etc. And perhaps there could have been a less abrupt ending of the ZZ romantic arc. And as mentioned before, those uncomfortable scenes that tripped over the line to sexual assault……but then again that’s how the author wrote XW.
So all in all, happy with this great end of the year gift 😍😍
why was he so mean to his own son from the getgo, what did the child do :'(
Douchebag Dad has no loyalty or true affection for anyone - he only treats them well or not according to the benefits they can bring him. Therefore if sacrificing his son will advance his career and get him power, he'll happily do it. Same same with his daughter - she's only an object that is either useful or not. According to his worldview, everyone is dispensable.
Ay what sort of lameass translation by Iqiyi "the pain is also a result" - just translate it literally "Bitter fruit is still fruit" - the audience is going to understand.
Hats off to ZLH💯💯 . The stab scene was INTENSE! For me, it was far more engaging than the cave kiss scene. ZLH really brought out the max cray cray of XW...........phew
YL is still the sweetest......when he brought out the little flower I couldn't help but wonder if XW hadn't gone thru hell and back whether he wouldn't be more like YL
Making her eat fish in vinegar after she stays out with YL...........and then to cast the rest of the food to dogs - mamma mia! 🤣🤣Must be the only guy who can turn the tables around and make the object of his affection literally taste vinegar when he himself is feeling the sourness of jealousy. Puts a whole new spin on "eating vinegar" - LOL! And he really will not suffer any losses even in love.
And poor DQ and JS - have to have strong stomachs when you're XW's followers
This director's "creative" whimsies are getting more and more outrageous the further we go into the episodes.…
It's actually amazing that we are still hooked on the story given the super irritating way the director was lighting and shooting it............thankfully the cast isn't loco like the director/production team.
No, it was jarring for me too and basically tripping over the line of sexual harrassment/assault. XW's hands are…
Ah well, there was already the problematic rape by YL in tbe previous life which she somehow seemed to get over with no difficulty. This seems to be in the same vein.
