Agree, it was a powerful entrance! Although it's not his first acting from scratch, it's his first experience…
Agree... he was even told to tone it down at the audition since theater’s different. I first saw him in mjty and was mind-blown ....he made that character feel so alive. Then in fof I got even more interested, seeing his range. He played both roles great, but Yuanzhi gave him room to show more facial expressions and movement, while Yichen was a much stiffer character barely smiling, with minimal motion unless fighting .... so his acting relied on his eyes and subtle micro-expressions...

Rui ended up prompting Ren when he forgot his lines, guiding him on what to say ....tho he’d only heard them once himself... 😄

I think it was more of a collaborative credit then GJM writing everything. So the source of the “everyone says…
You might want to learn how a real exchange works....def not like a little emotional meltdown here... that read like an angry poem, lol. Maybe try chilling more next time...And who’s being silenced? Hard to reply when people block you, toss a comment, and vanish...The self-projection and emotional spillover have turned straight into tantrum theater...ofc always followed by the clapping hands emoji...lol

GJM’s next project is Manual of Hundred Demons and the only rumor I’ve seen is that Yanan might play Liu Gongzi....no word on Rui yet...but he does look a bit skinnier..

Doesn’t matter if it’s popular or not ... it’s your opinion. We’re all free to see the characters and story differently. FOF’s arcs and stories, as I’ve already said, were compelling and moving....and though they were intertwined in multiple ways, I could easily follow the threads, see how they were linked, and understand the relationships clearly. I loved it all. So arcs like zyz, zyc, and a few others will stick with me for a long time.
And seeing things as they are shows that I can’t follow your view or interpretation....i mean the things you found didn’t work, from sidelining or crushing certain characters to choosing the protagonist. I just don’t see any of that....and I’m not even close to seeing or understanding it. But I don’t have to understand, because this is the territory of personal preference and expectations...
I wasn’t expecting romance to be a main focus. I’ve been following GJM’s work for a long time now, so I know what to expect ..incl some flaws and all. My focus has always been on his overall delivery.
You brought up creative freedom ....should creators cater to the audience or follow their own vision... I sometimes sway on it, but I’m more consistent in giving them the freedom to shape their worlds, arcs, and stories. We just find ourselves in it if it resonates, or move on if it doesn’t...in search of something else. So I don’t see their creative freedom as selfish. And if they’re ever pressured to deliver arcs that meet the expectations of the masses, I’ll stay on their side.
Now it’s just to see, with his future work, if he keeps that same freedom while navigating the rules about billing and screen time, which are limiting by nature. People who can’t handle it can always turn to other directors and writers ... it’s a big industry.
Anyway, the main point we agree on is his motive ...are driven by vision and creativity...not the pettiness some people like to imagine.

Title Fangs of Fortune Spoiler
No, I’m on episode 31, kind of confused now because a plague has broken out and they discovered that it’s…
It’s been a while since I watched this eps, but as far as I remember.. Fei did die but later, Qing Geng agreed to be put in a dream-like state to be with him where everything feels real, tho it isn’t. Wang Zhongyu has the same kind of power as Ran Yi ... he can create a dream world, or a dream like state, so real that its consequences spill into reality. If someone dies there, they actually die in real life. His physical body did die, but right before that, he absorbed the divine ever burning fire ... a gift of immortality that let him come back. So yeah, he died twice, his physical body, but revived both times. And how did he know? Well, probably cause he had spies everywhere, so learning what happened to Fei wasn’t hard. He just used his power to bring him and twist what others saw and felt...this is how i remember it..lol.

Yeah, the confusion’s mostly about the title. We saw some credits in Chinese like "special appearance guest"…
Got it.. thanks...🙂

Thanks .. it’s so refreshing to see an opinion like this. It’s rare. I’ve been following gjm for a long time and love his work and i agree with you on the last section.. He gives off the vibe of someone who’s deeply driven by story and character. His projects are always character driven, which can sometimes slow the pacing... something not everyone likes... but in FOF, he really made it work. ZYZ, the character Neo played, is one I absolutely love .. definitely among my favorites in c-dramas. Neo did a fantastic job playing him, alongside Rui as ZYC... another wonderful character, the others were good too. Loving this arc I honestly don’t see how Neo was wronged. I’m not a fan of cornering characters just for screentime ... forcing them to appear with filler scenes or unnecessary dialogue just for the sake of the screentime. Besides when a character is played by one excellent actor, another great actor only adds to the dynamics and makes the story better.
Saying GJM didn’t shape the story isn’t right, but the idea he forced everyone or acted selfishly...from monetary or personal reasons... is far-fetched without any solid evidence. His work shows imo, that he cares about the story and character vision, even at the cost of being criticized for not following expectations about screentime..he doesn’t abandon these rules, but he isn’t a complete servant to them ...rules that many younger Chinese directors oppose now because they limit creativity and will likely matter less in the future...

It's hard for me to picture anything else, esp them showing less than the supporting actors... after I read the synopsis... but yeah, it will be more clear in the future, and it's possible that even mdl will change it eventually to the supporting roles... idk if they have other credits other than main, guest, and support .... cause this may confuse people that they will only appear sporadically in some episodes..
