I definitely loved the chemistry and tension between them, it was completely off the charts! And the gender disguise was one of the most convincing ones I’ve seen. The actress really did such a great job portraying a man.

No, it’s actually pretty low on angst. The love triangle doesn’t get too heavy or frustrating, so I think you can just sit back, let your brain coast, and enjoy the ride.

And I can tell you definitely didn't enjoy Blossoms of Power as much as I did! If you've already forgotten Bu Shulin's storyline, I must say that for me, it was almost as interesting as the main couple, even though they got much less screen time.

Bu Shulin is actually the FL, but she disguises herself as a young lord and reckless playboy because she is the only daughter and has to inherit the Shu Nan Marquis household since women aren't allowed to inherit. She deliberately approaches Cui Jinbai, a very upright and strict Vice Minister, and tries to create a fake friendship with him to avoid a marriage alliance.

The whole dynamic was hilarious because Cui Jinbai genuinely believes she is a man, while her reckless young lord behaviour completely throws him off. Then, while they are investigating a corruption case together, they end up in prison, and Cui Jinbai actually puts himself in danger to protect her secret and help her escape. Once he discovers that she is actually a woman, he doesn't hesitate or become weird about it. He simply accepts his feelings and confesses, which leads to some really fun moments between them.

So yes, she was very much playing a male character for a large part of the story, and I thought Fan Shuai Qi did a surprisingly convincing job with the mannerisms and behaviour. Her face is definitely pretty, but I think that's what made the contrast even more impressive.

And I completely agree with you about actors immersing themselves in a role. If I'm watching someone play a man, I want to actually forget that I'm watching an actress for a while. The mascara-and-lipstick male disguise is definitely NOT going to convince me either.

Kim Jae Uck was really very underutilized. He had so much charm and potential, and I honestly wish his character had been given more depth and a better storyline.

I have yet to watch all the dramas you mentioned, but for me, Yao Zi in Lost You Forever also did a really convincing job, especially in terms of the mannerisms and behaviour. And in Blossoms of Power, Fan Shuai Qi may have had a pretty face, but I thought she did a surprisingly convincing job of portraying a male character too!

Exactly! I felt the same way. I really liked how the love triangle was handled here too. It was sweet without becoming frustrating or unnecessarily dramatic, and the characters actually behaved like sensible people instead of creating endless misunderstandings. The whole romance, including the love triangle, was just absolutely sweet and comforting to watch.

This drama's version of this trope is a little better, I think. You have to remember that when he made his "bet" he was really young and foolish too. So, while he was an obvious jerk for how he was talking with his friends, I don't think he was disingenuous with his feelings with her. This "bet" idea is all over movies and dramas. Also, he didn't intentionally ghost her, nor did he know that she had found out about the bet. So, as things go, especially with a child involved, I don't think it is unreasonable for her to forgive him. We've all done stupid things in our youth.

For example, when the two go to the wedding planner, the planner is really torturous, and the male and female leads seem to be suffering terribly from him! Every time the male lead tries to strike up a conversation, he gets a sharp retort with "Little mouth!" That line made me laugh so hard.

And after they escape, the male lead says some sentimental things, only to be met with the female lead's response, "If you say anything sentimental again, I'll throw you back into the shop!" The funniest part is the male lead's expression; he immediately goes from laughing to not laughing at all!

The warmth in their everyday interactions is truly palpable! Happiness blossoms from the tangible, everyday moments, and love is born when two hearts draw closer.

What's even more touching about this drama is the characters' commitment to their relationship. Initially, both harbor feelings for someone else, another relationship, and lingering emotional wounds. But after falling in love again, the traces of the past fade, and their commitment to each other deepens. The reappearance of the ex further solidifies the female lead's belief in who she truly wants, or rather, who she only wants!
Their love story felt so natural and real. I loved how it captures the complexities of their past. This is definitely one to remember. I hope to see the two again in future dramas. The production quality was unlike the typical c-dramas. Both leads are extremely good looking and very talented too.their bestfriends fight is too funny

The actor who plays the little brother is my favorite. Damn the tension between them is SIZZLING!!! Their kisses are so tender yet passionate. Their affection isn't instant, but their chemistry is beautiful, and they allow themselves to explore those feelings, while navigating their roles in each other's lives, and learning to put trust in each other despite their initial suspicions. I don't usually care for revenge plots, or the whole bodyguard & employer love scheme, but these 2 do so well together. I love them both
