COULD'VE BEEN A 10/10 SHOW HAD THEY NOT CASUALLY ADDED RAPE TO IT.

10/10 out of ten MAIN story. With 10/10 performance from Zhang Xincheng, Ding Yuxi and Jiang Peiyao. Great performance from the side characters and villains as well. However I cannot give this show a 10 no matter how good it is. THEY SHOULD'VE NEVER HAD A LEAD CHARACTER RAPE ANOTHER ONE THEN LATER HAD THEM MARRY EACHOTHER. that aspect of the show was truly disgusting and nauseating and they shouldn't have added it since it brought nothing to the main plot. They simply wanted to be disgusting. Though I've finished, I would never recommend or even rewatch a single episode. Everybody on the writing and production team that signed off on those scenes need to be put in jail. It was truly repulsive predatory of them.

IGNORE THE RATING, READ THE SYNOPSIS AND WATCH IF YOU'RE INTERESTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IGNORE THE RATING, READ THE SYNOPSIS AND WATCH IF YOU'RE INTERESTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This show is really good contrary to the ratings. The Lead actor Ryu Jun Yeol and is girlfriend of almost ten years broke up last year and he somehow started "dating" actress Han soo hee leading to cheating and affairs rumors so people are still a little cold towards him and his work.

(IMO it's soo obvious he had no serious relationship with her since he didn't even wanted to confirm they were seeing eachother, furthermore her company also did not want to either but was left with no choice when Soohee did so herself. Jun Yeol is no way faultless but I just think he came from a long relationship and wanted something casual base on his attitude and Hansoohee and the media play turnt it into a cheating rumor. making it more than what it was).

HOWEVER While I don't agree or disagree with what people may think of him personally I think this show is really good and deserve its props so ignore the ratings and watch because you want to and find the story compelling.

The Later episodes along with good PR saved this show and made it what is

Let me start by saying I don’t think it’s a bad drama. The later episodes were okay, but the first part…..like the first 12 episodes? EEEEYUCK!!!!

Everything about those first few episodes rubbed me the wrong way. I know a lot of people are going to say, “But he didn’t like her then.” “It was just a one-sided puppy crush,” blah, blah, blah. While that is technically true, the story is being told from HER point of view. I’m not in his head the way I’m in hers. I’m not insinuating anything, but it’s still something to think about.

Outside of that, I hated and frankly felt completely uncomfortable with how the writing purposely created situations that allowed the two of them to constantly end up ALONE together in small, enclosed spaces. Yeah, nothing inappropriate was actually done, but some things just don’t sit right with me.

The slow-motion shots whenever she stared at him, the romantic background music, the way it was portrayed as though she’s the only one who “gets him”… If it’s supposed to be a one-sided puppy love, what was the purpose of turning these regular interactions into romantic scenes with slow-mo editing and a sentimental soundtrack?

And it went on for like 12 episodes……..basically half the whole show. One or two episodes would’ve been enough. Then they could’ve done the time skip to college, which would’ve felt much more appropriate.

There’s nothing wrong with age-gap relationships, but in this case, those first few episodes just weirded me out a bit. Even though I know the male lead wasn’t in love with her or romantically interested in her at the time, the way certain scenes were edited where she’s in her school uniform and he’s in regular clothes, clearly emphasizing their age difference, paired with her baby voice and his much more mature one just left me stunned.

Those scenes weren’t doing what they were supposed to. They were clearly meant to come across as innocent and from a place of admiration, but the editing intentionally made them feel inappropriate. I honestly would’ve preferred if they had kept a little more distance between them and not made them seem so close or familiar during that stage of the story.

Anyway, I think the directors made some very questionable choices there.

Then HE was the one who confessed, and I was just like… Okay, when did you suddenly start seeing her as a woman instead of that little girl you used to tutor?

I just wish I had never started this drama. I don’t have a problem with it as a whole, but those first few episodes left such a bad impression on me that I couldn’t stop thinking about them. Even when the story moved on and became more tolerable, I kept getting pulled back to those early scenes and feeling uncomfortable all over again.

So no, I didn’t hate the entire drama. The later episodes were okay. But because of how strongly I disliked the first part, I spent the rest of the show overthinking things and getting disgusted whenever my mind drifted back to those early episodes.

VERY WEIRD.

No tea, no shade, but this show wasn't that good and was severely overhyped.

I started watching this when it first aired, but I put it on hold until all the episodes were released. I picked it back up, then dropped it again because it was way too draggy, and the constant push-and-pull just didn't make sense. A few months later, I picked it up again because I hate leaving dramas unfinished, and new issues arose.

After a few more episodes, around the middle of the drama, I started feeling like the relationship and romance were way too one-sided. Yes, it was pretty obvious that they both loved each other very much. However, she learned about and even witnessed the many things he did for her and the countless ways he showed how much he cared, and she's just... I can't even put into words what I think of her character during that specific period. The words I want to use to describe her would make me sound mean. Anyway, I got past that since I guess they wanted to write San Yan as someone who deeply yearned for her.

Then I directed my attention to the second couple... Oh brother. I genuinely was not feeling their acting. I don't think it's a matter of whether they can or cannot act; I personally just didn't like their performances.

Another thing I DID NOT like was the styling in this show for any of the female characters; neither the female lead nor the second female lead. The second male lead was dressed sloppily as well. I honestly think the entire styling budget went to Jing Ting because he was the only person who consistently had well-fitted clothes.

They also did a poor job handling the female lead's trauma and mental health overall. That girl didn't only suffer from sleepwalking. Come on now, you're simply playing in my face. Furthermore, the rapist, the rape apologist, the classist stepsister, and the spineless mother were handled even worse. We saw that these characters were absolute monsters. We witnessed everything they did to the female lead and all the scars they left behind. Yet when it came time for them to face consequences, everything was wrapped up far too easily, especially for the aunt, the mother, and the stepsister.

I also wish they had put more effort into the storytelling surrounding the characters' careers. The way it was written, their jobs felt like nothing more than plot devices to create scenes, give the male and female leads an excuse to meet outside of town, wrap up another character's storyline, or introduce a new character. I'm mainly referring to the female lead's job as a journalist. Here's the thing: most of the time she was in the office instead of out in the field. The stories and exclusive interviews seemed to come directly to them rather than them actively seeking them out.

Anyways, outside of the romantic segments and the friendship scenes between the male lead and his friends, as well as the female lead and the second female lead, I found most of the writing to be boring.

DIFFERS FROM THE ORIGINAL WORK. WORKS GREAT AS A STAND ALONE!

Objectively this is a really nice drama to pass time however base on the original work/ source material it’s falling flat to most viewers who has seen the original.

I cannot directly speak in regards to that or make the comparison since I’ve yet to see the anime; however in my personal opinion I believe that though it differs a lot from the original work, People should give it a watch as a standalone.

It seems some scenes were cut due to copyright. But i strongly believe outside of that, the acting is solid, there’s chemistry between the leads and the comedy is on point. The politics aspect is just a tad bit draggy but nothing too bad.

Final verdict, if you’ve seen the original work and go in expecting a “live adaptation” then you’ll probably be disappointed. However if you’re able to treat this as a stand alone show then there’s a high chance you may enjoy this a bit. In my opinion it’s not very heavy and all the different parts are balanced enough to me. We also have a side couple that also has a funny dynamic.

HEY FUTURE VIEWERS, DESPITE THE REVIEWS PLEASE WATCH

I have a big mouth so i can hardly post a review without providing spoilers but i'll try.

I know a few reviews may be discouraging you from watching this masterpiece BUT PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THEM!

You'll either hate Baek Hyunwoo in the beginning or you'll understand why he acts like that. There's almost no inbetween. BUT I PROMISE HE DEVELOPS WELL, HE'S BAD ASS AND A BALL OF FLUFF. A LITERALLY CINNAMON ROLL THAT WOULD KILL ANYBODY WHO TOUCHES HIS WOMAN.

There will be a few typical kdrama cliches but not enough to be a total turn off.

Unlike other dramas The FL actually sets boundaries with the SML, and the ML does not have a love interest apart from the FL, so absolutely no love triangle. PLUS YOU FIND OUT THE VILLIANS PRETTY EARLY COMPARED TO OTHER SHOWS.

The villians will totally annoy the hell out of you especially the SML, be prepared.

It became a tad bit draggy, unrealistic and overall just pissed me off after the tenth episode but it gets a little better after ep13th. AND DON'T WORRY ALL THE VILLIANS WERE PUNISH...................EVEN HER (you'll know who soon enough)

That's all I have to say hopefully i didn't spoil too much for you.
