I genuinely think the first 8 episodes is some of the best kdrama we've ever seen. Perfect pacing + intensity with tremendous amounts of world-building.

Episode 1-8 by themselves would be number 1 on my top-10 list lol. If only season 2 was as good as season 1 ep 1-8...that would've been so good.

It's kinda hard to explain in English but uh...in the book, Wu Miao loves to use 'special bugs' which serves various kinds of purposes (e.g. Emotional / psychological manipulation) and her power is complete control and dominance over the entire species of 'special bugs', which is why she is the 'divine priestess' as she is the only one in like 100 years to fully master that power. Once-in-a-generation kinda thing. There's a ton more about it in the book but none of that is in the show so treat everything I just said as yapping

Yeah but not literal superpowers like she has in the book though lol

8.1 is lowkey really low considering how good the show actually is

(also, looking back, I still think episode 9 is absolute cinema)

(also also, as someone who's finished the entire book, the only complaint I have is that she isn't using any of her cool powers from the book...well, at least 25 episodes in, or maybe the show version of Jiang Si just doesn't have special powers...? It's lowkey strange that she isn't using them even in life-or-death situations...does she even have powers?)

Got to episode 31 and honestly, listening to 品冠 - 未尽 and reading the lyrics just makes me feel sad, reading some of the subtle hints of spoilers makes me lowkey extremely worried about the potential sad ending. Should I be worried? I'm honestly torn between moving forward and stopping temporarily. What if Su Yi Shui takes way too long to get his memories back? What if Mu Qing Ge never returns to full power at any point in the story?

MFW I got to like, ep 28 (or 27, I don't remember) and within 5 mins, Mu Qing Ge lost all of her powers again...

Bruh...I've been waiting for Mu Qing Ge at 100% for so long and now we have to start from less than zero...

EP20: "I feel like you've changed a little bit...seems familiar"

Ngl, the actress portrayed the *slight* change in AURA very very well. Like, she actually didn't do anything special, or even anything that different from usual, but you can FEEL that something is different. Really nice actually.

"Aren't you afraid that I'm gonna tell everyone"

Ayo, don't you have that fantastic spell that stops people from saying certain things? That's like the magic equivalent of a PERFECT NDA lol.

Watching this shortly after Fangs of Fortune is a weird experience lol

every 5 minutes: "Wait, I recognize this exact house, this is where Ju Yan got shot"
"Wait I recognize this village" "Wait I recognize this exact place" x5000

OK, the finale combined with 34.5 is pretty good, now I don't get why everyone was saying the ending is awful. The ending is fine tbh.

Is it just me or does the ending feel..abrupt? Like, there should've been something at the end but instantly, nope, ending song just plays.

I switched to reading the novel after Ep 10 and recently came back, although I prefer the novel for the most part, they nailed Ep 15. That was pretty good.

But yeah, Lin An is so much better in the novel...

Ep 8: Are you sure Cai Wei isn't the female MC...? The actual female MC is like...barely in the show lol

Serious question:

If you know your opponent is gonna use a knife, why not at the very least prepare a SWORD?

EP1 first impression: so...she's basically John Wick? She didn't even remotely hesitate, zero evidence of blood left behind? She's definitely a pro at this.

5 episodes in *right after* watching season 1. Is it just me or are the colours much more...vibrant this time around? Somehow, the washed-out colours feel rather nostalgic now. Makes the show feel more serious.

Anyway, something feels off from season 1 but I don't quite know what it is. Maybe it's the pacing? I'll keep going for a while to see what happens ( I mean, it's like THE most popular cdrama in 2024 for good reason...? ) Season 1 is a 10/10, idk about season 2.



Edit: okay 6 episodes in, it starts getting good.
