Tencent crying wolf twice and viewers stop believing. First TOOL and now TLP. You don't announced a drama is included…
It is highly unlikely they are partnering with a TV station. You cannot just apply for a TV broadcasting licence. I think I already explained this like three times.

In China, you first get a licence for production at which point your drama is registered as either a TV/ web or just web. Then you film, then you apply for a corresponding broadcasting licence. If your initial licence was for a web drama you cannot apply for a TV broadcasting licence but only for a web one.

TLP is a web drama. In order to make it show up on TV you would have to change that initial licence to a TV/web one and then apply for review (the broadcasting licence). Changing that first license is immensely difficult. We can also access data for this and TLP is still a web drama only. If Tencent is trying to do this, and there have only ever been unsubstantiated rumors about it, then it's a huge, tedious and perhaps impossible task. Anyway, Tencent is losing subscribers in droves, I cancelled months ago and uninstalled their app. Their financial report showed them in trouble and the recent conference where the corruption was addressed just says they are in deep problems. Their spokespersons are leaving because of bad treatment. Who knows when TLP will show up considering all of this. I just know that more than likely it will be airborne without any promo or any marketing at all by Tencent.

Nah. In order for something to be a huge hit in China, it has to break 4 on Datawin. This drama managed to break…
Nope. LLTG was around 2.7 (I rounded) and LBFAD less than that iirc.

I went to look for which two broke 3. A Lifelong Journey (3.054) and Dream of Splendor (3.077). That's it.

Do you mean Eternal Love from 2017, based on Three Lives Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms novel? That's the most viewed Chinese show ever, something like close to 60 billion views. Datawin wasn't always around and for a long time views were the respected metric, before it all went to hell with water infusions and before ultimately the platforms hid the views to make manipulation easier. Anyway, I don't remember most Datawin scores that are available, I mean why would I, so I am afraid you would have to go search for what you are interested in.

Anyway in today's list, this drama is still on top with 1.863 though still dropping with Xiao Se and Wuxin the most popular characters, like they have been from the start.

It's practically the only real measuring tool left for how well a drama is doing. Datawin on Weibo releases all kinds of information on a daily basis, from these scores to how much a certain character participats in that, to the list of the most anticipated
dramas.

The last big drama was Cheng Qing Ling or The Untamed at 3.9. Crime Crackdown broke 3 in its year and I genuinely don't remember which two did it after, I would have to search for it but I am pretty sure it was 2 dramas.

Keep in mind, none of this is even close to the old huge hits, where we would be talking 5. But the Chinese drama market is cold so breaking 3 these days is great. For this drama, going above 2 is excellent. It has no huge names to carry it, though the original IP is good so that does help. Also currently that's the only drama that went above 2 from those airing (caveat, I haven't seen today's table).

Mark my words, this will be a huge hit (if the writers don't mess it up)
Nah. In order for something to be a huge hit in China, it has to break 4 on Datawin.

This drama managed to break 2, held on for a day and is already below it now.

The last drama that even came close to 4 was back in 2019 and even breaking 3 is a big problem these days. Maybe three dramas in two years, if I recall well.

Title The Blood of Youth Spoiler
In the novel, technically, Xiao Se is the MC. The issue is that it wasn't how it was supposed to be. Lei Wujie…
Well, basically you end up knowing everything there is to know about LWJ and when I say that I mean you get to know everything about him and his sister, mother, grandfather, they all have their own extensive stuff. You even end up knowing everything about other side characters to the point that at the end, you know more about them than Xiao Se. You want to know about the love life of assassins that the bad guy hired? You get to even if you don't!

In the end Xiao Se's story winds up as being a very long line of "why? Why? Why?" That you never get any answers to. So if that wasn't enough, at the end, you have a lot of angst and anxiety about the succession to the throne and so you think he gets it? Nope! There is some bs explanation and off Xiao Se goes back. It's not that an ending like that cannot work but it is that the author really didn't care to make it work.

As I said below, manage your expectations if you like this character. He really isn't the real MC, LWJ is. I mean it could be the drama changes something and it goes much better but at least this way you are forewarned.

Your "I am holding out some hope since that's not the whole story" is pretty much the reasoning for finishing it of every single person I know that read the novel.

Dramas are good because in the end, you can quickly FF. Just based on what a few of you are saying, it's going exactly like the novel so just tell yourself not to expect much and you will be avoiding the "what, wait what what, wtaf" feeling we all had at the end of the book. We ended up not learning so many important things about XS and then we were hit with a really bad ending. Tbh I think by the end there, the author did that on purpose. After all, we didn't like his precious LWJ.

Anyway, manage your expectations and all I can say is, good luck 🤞

I dropped it because of the same reason. I was actually kind of hopeful for the drama but it was probably foolish of me.

LWJ is probably the worst type of character for me. I have absolutely no idea why the author stuck to him so much when he had such a demand for XS and WX and that ending just finally did me in. Unsurprisingly, WX and XS are the most popular in China in the drama too . They may not be too happy when LWJ takes over.

Thank you so much though, I think I will not touch this until it's over and I can thoroughly spoil myself. One novel XS misery was enough 😂

That's subjective. If he is the same dumb but talented character in the drama, then I find that boring.

Anyway I was actually asking something completely different, so I am not sure what the point of that answer even is. Thanks anyway.

Ah I see, yes, this is more like what I was asking. Hmm, the novel went the same way then it rapidly changes. I think I will wait then, best not risk it, I have had bad luck this year with dramas! Thank you so much!

Anyone knows its score/heat index in youku?
That's irrelevant, nobody takes that seriously in China.

What matters is Datawin and it's first and more importantly, it has managed to break 2, with Wuxin and XS the most popular characters.

If anyone would be so kind to answer a couple of questions for me, I would be really thankful. Some very slight…
In the novel, technically, Xiao Se is the MC. The issue is that it wasn't how it was supposed to be. Lei Wujie was the initial MC and because the readers found him boring and frankly, lacking in the main character department, the writer switched to XS (XS and Wuxin are the two most popular characters in China).

This created a problem in the sense that while this was nominally done, it was very clear LWJ was the one author loved and we never really got anything important about XS in terms of characterisation and his background while we knew which way the wind blew when LWJ went to the bathroom that one Sunday afternoon. This ended up affecting the ending too.

Anyway, so if any of you who have seen the episodes or most of the 11 episodes could be so kind to tell me - is the drama showing XS as a proper MC or is a lot of time going to Lei Wuji?

Reading the boring was already too much for me so I would be really thankful about this!

There is a notion in fiction that I'm absolutely despise. The notion of something sad, grim, unpleasant or unsatisfying…
Unfortunately this idea came from the States and now it's spreading in Asia too. I loathe it but doesn't look like it's going away. I think it only will when audiences stop spending money on such dramas/movies.

Yes, everybody who doesn't like the ending is dumb and needs you to explain it to their dumb selves so that they…
Nah, I am sick of patronising bs where people say you don't understand this amazing ending because we are all just stupid and we just need it explained to us. You don't see me saying a word to people who simply liked it because yes, everyone can like or dislike it. But if the poster above really insists on hey you just don't understand I can also say oh hey, she is simply too stupid to get our issues so buys into this mess. That's the exact same thing except more direct. Oh how magnanimous of her to allow us at the end to dislike it even after her super intelligent, too advanced for us explanation.
