Ace Troops is on the short list for Flying Apsaras or Feitian awards for best drama, the major biannual awards in China. It is one of the top three awards here.
It's a pretty significant achievement so I just want to say GYY, you made it. It is also a perfect example why XZ fighting for that billing was so important. Congratulations!
Sorry for a super late reply but you got a somewhat wrong answer here. Traffic actors are those who have big fan backing with significant spending. They buy anything their idols endorse, multi-buy songs, lock screenings etc. Basically we are talking about those who have (a large amount of) money circulating around them.
It's not a good label in China so you will see actors and actresses who are serious about their work trying to get rid of this label by acting in less commercial, more serious productions, with non traffic actors, etc. Its actually a dreadfully difficult transition because shaking off that image of idol and money machine is not easy, regardless of your skills and talent. XZ himself is definitely on this road, trying to earn a real actor reputation. He is doing well!
Now we are up to the bad part, and I have been waiting for this, I can vent and say I absolutely hated this part in the book too. His career would have tanked without personal connections and they knew he was not at fault. Meh.

She is kind of against them even after that incident with the main coach, almost till the end but its not centered in the plot and tbh, it's irrelevant as they dgaf and go their own way.
Plus there is a big sports plot at the end that's the focus. That was handled so well and by proxy, showed a healthy and strong relationship too.
Actually the whole thing with his mom is from the novel but literally nothing happens. They do smooth sail through it. I was sure there would be major drama when I read that but nope. Loved that bit!

Yup! They can say whatever they like to justify his casting but it doesn't change the fact that actors must at least appear to fit their roles physically. Otherwise we wouldn't have had the by now iconic roles of actors like Vincent D'Onofrio, Mark Wahlberg or Renee Zellweger where they had to gain massive amounts of weight to be able to play their characters.
This is a huge mistake by the casting director who chose LYX for a role he cannot fill but frankly, I also don't understand why he said yes to this. It's a shame because plot seems really good.
Nope. Tried and I am sorry to say but nope. The story is interesting and generally I would actually enjoy this but the ML is all wrong.
Next time hopefully they will cast someone who fits the role and doesn't look like a strong wind will blow him away when one's physicality matters. There are strict physical requirements for jobs of this type and the actor at least has to appear to satisfy them. LYX requires such massive suspension of disbelief here that I simply can't watch. A shame.

You should totally desensitize yourself which means repeating viewing required. It's medicinal after all so it's for a good cause.
