I feel that book 1 & 2 are enjoyable to almost anyone who is into popular science or futurology.
Book 3 not so much, the concept of dimensions is not very well thought out. There is also that thing with slowing down lightspeed within a localized area. I for one don't think the human brain and nervous system can function in such circumstances..

If the nose & lips are not visible, then with some imagination, just barely.

I enjoyed reading book2, 3 on the other hand went off the rails a little.

I have read the books and it was tedious and yet I was still wondering if people wound understand those flashback scenes without a text notification. (about younger Ye Wenjie) I was surprised that episode I watched yesterday had a proper text intro for the flashback finally. (it was either 5 or 6)

It's been more than 5 years since i've read the last book, but I recall there were MAJOR time skips in book2. (on the scale that characters literally died of old age)

There is no reason to wait, this is only about book 1 & while the other two books are sequels they have mostly new characters.

Not saying your points are completely invalid, but following that logic you shouldn't watch ANY cdrama at all, because I guarantee you the cast will have at least 1-2 ppl that said something on social media that you would strongly dislike and rightly so. Also, if you watch these from a legal source you are supporting the CCP as well with your money.

As for the author, in the New Yorker interview he has directly parroted the Chinese propaganda about this issue. If you asked any mainland Chinese about this, this would be one of the most likely responses to that question.
