I'm bone tired of hearing/reading statements and "wisdom" like this: 'Death is a part of life!"; "We need to face our mortality and let go of happy endings and attachments!"; "This is how real life works!"; "Suffering and healing is a process and a part of growing up!" ...etc
I don't know what kind of world some people are living in, but if you live in this reality, on this planet we are already aware of pain, suffering and death on a daily basis and need no reminder of it! We are living in a digital age where information is at light speed and we can see all the misery, all the suffering that happens every day all around the world!
Even if you haven't suffered personally yet, you probably witnessed it many times! If you grew up in poverty, you most likely know what misery looks like up close and personal from a young age! Even if you had a very safe, loving and worry free childhood, you still witnessed things like bullying, or accidents or suffered the loss of a grandparent, or seen some of your classmates go through hardship and/or grief!
By the time you enter college you are very aware of the cruelty of the world, the social injustice that many people have to deal with day after day or the devastating illnesses and addictions that destroy lives and families! We have wars, natural disasters and the major problem of climate change that will affect us all and not in a good way! All that info is at everyone's fingertips!
So, no, I don't need a reminder of how fragile and fleeting this life is!
I'm a middle aged woman, I've had plenty of real life hardship, but I suspect you don't need to reach my age to be familiar with all the painful and negative aspects of being human, of being mortal!
How I see it, even though I can only speak for myself, many of us who love BL are come to escape from reality! We are looking for a safe space where everyone looks hot or cute, where we can forgive the bad boy, where we can revisit first love, where the one who's been wronged by family or friends finds someone who will stand by him no matter what, where the abused can escape and gets justice or revenge, where it's OK to drool over some spicy action at 2AM and get all sappy about the "and they lived happily ever after" ending!
I've been watching BLs since 2008, so don't get me wrong, I'm not here to advocate for endless happy endings and I watched plenty of BLs over the years with very heavy subjects and sad or open ended final chapter and I liked those as well as long as the writing was good and it made sense! What I'm trying to convey is my frustration about needless, excessive emotional trauma just "to remind or teach" me about loss and healing or whatever is the current buzz word/phrase to justify killing off a character when you ran out of any other idea or solution!
This drama was compiling emotional stress from the get go and slowly lost the balance of respite and pressure, topping it off with a completely unnecessary emotional blow!
I did read the director's explanation about it, but it is neither convincing nor "comforting" as far as I'm concerned! It's more like a type of lecture where someone's point of view or excuse of the outcome gets spoon fed to you with a sprinkle of philosophy, "wisdom" and some poetry and you lose sight of your feeling of wrongness! So, you start bobbing your head and think, "yeah, if you put it this way it makes sense"! Except it doesn't!
Still, many netizens will buy it and feel somewhat placated or comforted, because it's easier that way and after all it's only fiction, right?
This day and age people are constantly bombarded with social cues of how to think, how to feel and how to behave and slowly but surely we start losing our identity trying to fit in!
I refuse to be "handled"! Because it's OK to feel wronged!
Yes, it is just a story of make belief! Yes it is all fiction and the young man is just an actor and he is doing just fine! Everything is fine, no harm done right?
Than why do you feel devastated if everything is just fine? Because your emotions were manipulated for maximum damage! A cruel, calculated hit with no logic behind it! Just to "teach" you a lesson about real life!
Let me finish my ramblings with a final point if I may!
I truly loved this BL until this major face slap happened in episode 13! The acting, the cinematography, the storyline and the music was all on another level! I was looking forward to every episode with great anticipation and I considered this BL as one the the greatest one to date! It hit all the right spots, it made me feel angst, joy, sorrow, anxiety and even some comical moments! The only thing that it didn't give me was healing, but I figured that was coming in the last episodes, especially when QT finally broke down in his brother's arms and later told Wenshu to wait for him until he sorts himself out! That was the first time in the entire series when I was able to breathe a little easier! I was so ready to get my hopes up, both for QT and QL! Unfortunately that will never happen!
Obviously, I have no idea how this will end, but I won't be there for more trauma, watching QL blaming himself, punishing himself and Changyang for the loss of his little brother! I won't be there for the pain that Wenshu has to go through after years of hoping, waiting and caring for someone he loved so much!
Because after the last episode, I have nothing left to give!
I knew that something horrible would happen as soon as Qing Lang started to drive. I won't watch the rest of the series and I wish that I never started to watch episode 13! Real life is hard enough, I don't need this much pain from a BL! If I wanted to get my heart torn into pieces, I would've picked a regular Asian drama, thank you very much! This story has been dishing out more than enough heart ache and heart break as it is, so dumping this much excessive emotional trauma on the unsuspecting viewers was just pure cruelty as far as I'm concerned! I've had such a nice weekend going on until this point and now I'm feeling devastated and depressed because of a fictional character...

He's got the visuals, the body, the warped brain sans logic and a dirty mind that is just so my type! In a way, by sheer accident our genius writing staff wrote their utter gibberish as always and it's the perfect script for the character! As the saying goes, "Even a blind bird can find a worm once in a while"!
But, I'm getting ahead of myself! So, let me wipe off the drool and tell my ovaries to take a hike, because there was so much happening in 20 minutes that we need to talk about!
Episode 6 left us with an image of my new boyfriend...er I mean captain magic blood sado-maso dragging Se Hyeon on the floor and out the door! I guess I was right about needing a different scenery for some good old fashioned torture, because that spooky basement definitely got the perfect vibe for the task at hand! I have a few questions though! How did they get there in the first place and why was Se Hyeon drugged had a tape over his mouth? It's not like he was screaming his head off for help while his ass was skating on the floor on the way out to be tortured! Oh, and why is my boyfriend covering his scrumptious body with a bullet proof vest? Did he stop for a quick mission on the way? Is it his new fashion statement? Maybe, he thinks that the vest makes him look more manly? BTW, I was totally digging the swinging camera angles, because I wasn't nauseous before so this helped me get some bile moving, like I was tripping on something as well!
Our captain sado-maso starts to interrogate the damsel in distress....er, I mean our poor cowardly club owner/cop who's momentarily defiance can be summed up by his statement "Seong Ho will come to save me!" Aww, that's so adorable! Especially coming from someone who was ready to blow his brains out a few hours ago! If only he could make up his mind!
Suddenly, the special effects guy had a brilliant idea to randomly turn on a smoke machine near by the victim's chair, making it look like that captain sado-maso was just about to barbeque Se Hyeon! Maybe that was the smoke signal for Seong Ho to enter the scene!
So, our hero arrives weapon's drawn to save the day, only to surrender it 28 seconds later! I timed it, it lasted from 3:36 to 4:04! That must have been the fastest capitulation in history!
From that point on complete lunacy reigned on the scene, so devoid of any trace of logic and common sense that my brain cells went into witness protection just to keep my sanity intact!
Showing up without a plan and backup as one does while pursuing a psychopath is a brilliant idea if you are hoping for a one way ticket to the afterlife! Not to mention that you're not much help for your lover either, but I guess he failed to contemplate on that before he dropped his gun! My boyfriend...er, our nutjob captain actually points it out that what Seong Ho did was a suicide and he starts to handle the situation accordingly!
First he orders Seung Ho to kneel, which he does only after his lover gets punched on the face and a gun to the head on a count of one...two... The absurdity of the scene totally amuses both me and my boyfriend... I mean our captain sado-maso who's laughing and enjoying himself, mocking the wannabe hero for being an ace cop with no pride! Then orders him to take off his clothes....just to see if he is wearing a wire you pervs...at least that was the reason at first.... I think....probably...until he got other ideas...
I think our captain BDSM daddy has a belt fetish! Even a corrupt cop would carry handcuffs, but captain sado-maso orders Seong Ho to take off his belt and tie his hands with it! Mind you, he didn't specify how to do it, but our specially trained returnee promptly tied his hands BEHIND his back, completely giving up any chance of self defense or to grab the gun that my boyfriend....I mean captain BDSM daddy is so loosely and carelessly waving around in his hand! He even gets praised for a job well done!
I think that was the moment when I thought that the script reached the point of absolute lunacy, but I was sorely mistaken! I shouldn't have underestimated the writer(s) capability of creating an even more brain numbing plot twist!
Apparently, there's some family secret lurking around that captain BDSM daddy wants to know, but gets no answers, so out comes his trusty switchblade and he proceeds to make a single small SHALLOW cut, more like a scratch on Se Hyeon's chest that earns him a loud scream from our cowardly cop, like he was stabbed or something! For some reason, captain BDSM daddy found that exciting and kissed his victim,,,, which is fine, because he is a psycho, but Se Hyeon kissed him back! We are talking about proper tonsil hockey here people! EXCUSE ME??!! I mean I know all about Stockholm Syndrome, but didn't know it develops this fast! Maybe the last five years were more complicated between those two than we've been let on!
After seeing that, Seong Ho is ready to sing, but here comes the aforementioned plot twist to lower a person's IQ to the level of a flea!
Another wannabe hero enters the scene with the same careful non-planning as the first one, and that idiot is none other than our favorite psycho slave.... er, I mean the very courageous officer Min Ho! Well, shag me sideways, I didn't see that one coming! That little weasel is popping up everywhere just at the right time, and I have a suspicion that he might be an undercover cop too, because he lacks every skill, willpower and logic just like Se Hyeon!
So, he swoops in his signature, spotless, white as snow sneakers that I'm positive is not a part of the dress code and starts blabbering about how it is improper and not a way to go about solving a problem! Are you kidding, right? Wasn't he Hell bent to screw them over just a few days ago? Are both the writer(s) and the director suffering from short term memory loss? For the love of everything that's unholy, who came up with this mental excrement?
I know logic and skills of any kind are not a requirement for this project, but keeping a little consistency shouldn't be this hard, because the "plot" is not that complicated to follow... wait, maybe it's too simple and that's why they don't bother to keep track of it, right?!

Usually, with a very few exceptions, I'm OK with a sad ending, but this time I'm praying to the BL gods to spare me from another heart ache! With this storyline and these characters, I need a happy ending like I need water in the desert!
Both couples, Zhen Xin / Zhang Zhun and Fang Chi/Gao Zhun are equally important to me, but I'm pretty sure that I don't have to worry about the latter pair in the final episode! On the other hand, I don't know if Zhang Zhun could ever forgive him for that night! In 'ABO Desire' and 'To My Shore' horrible, unforgivable things were forgiven, but the wronged parties were though, powerful characters who could dish out some damage to assert their dominance over their top in the relationship by the end! Zhang Zhun is already emotionally compromised, insecure and vulnerable in so many levels, that this discovery might shatter him beyond repair! 😵💫
