I agree with everything you wrote here, except one thing: one storyline can be enough for a whole series if it…
True. I just commented on someone's response to another comment I made that it feels like an unfortunate waste of some great acting talent. They could have delved into some of the more pertinent (and glaring) issues this season. Like Type's issues with coming out, his relationship with his father, even the horrible abuses of power from his boss and the resulting problems around subordinates just taking it and not being able to fight back. I actually know what it's like to live in that kind of hell at work, and it really affects you mentally, physically, and emotionally. Especially when people don't believe it's happening. We could have seen Type open himself up to vulnerability instead of continuing to project this toxic masculinity he keeps clinging to that's been around since season 1.
The issue is that Mame couldn't fathom writing something like that. Instead, we get the typical, run-of-the-mill, half-conceptualized bs that's consistent with a lot of crappy BL and if we're honest what she's known for. She's honestly lucky that her characters are cast so well because beyond that everything would fall apart (as I think we saw in LBC2), when the acting doesn't prop up the writing it just crumbles into a confusing mess. I would argue that what made LBC such a success was that Perth and Saint were the ones portraying the main characters, and New actually did a pretty outstanding job as a director, if you look closely the main issue with that series is the plot development. I said after the last episode that it's pretty clear to me I can't watch any more projects she's a part of. At this point, people probably feel like I'm bashing her but it seriously kind of makes me angry how offensively she writes these characters and their relationships. It's a disservice to gay, bi, or questioning characters as a whole.
I understand your POV about Fiat but you got tharntype and champknup wrong.Yes, type and tharn are obsessed with…
You think this series is realistic? Are you kidding? Not to mention the majority of what is portrayed would be considered unhealthy and problematic in an actual relationship. The whole series has been fan service and that's precisely what bothers me so much about it. It's poorly written, the characters haven't been developed and we've been in a constant loop of the same issues since last season. You're telling me this couple has been together for 7 years and they still can't communicate with each other? They fight and make up (no fanservice...right...) every day. If you're in a relationship that long and you can't or don't know how to communicate with your partner that's a serious issue, not cute behavior. Sure, I may have gotten wrong that Tharn came back but that still doesn't change that their relationship hasn't moved beyond where they were 7 years ago, which was where we were in season 1 and now we're almost at the end of season 2. It's such a waste, truly, of some really great acting talent. They could have really delved into some of the more pertinent and serious issues, like Type's issues with coming out, his relationship with his dad, hell even the problematic issue of his boss and his abuses of power. And yet, all of that is gone in a puff of smoke, with Type still unable to make himself vulnerable or set aside his pride. Instead he's still clinging to the toxic masculinity that was an issue in season 1. Something really amazing could have been done with the storyline and these actors and we get...this? Now we have a potential unintentional drunk cheating drama? Could you get any more unoriginal if you tried? It's just a clusterf*ck.
Also, my issue with Khunpol isn't that he's an introvert. There are quite a few characters that have been introverts that have been portrayed quite accurately. Being an introvert doesn't mean that you're emotionally or socially inept. I'm not saying that Khunpol has to even put himself out there, Champs already doing all the work! He's shut him down every episode they've shown them together and it makes zero sense considering...he's supposed to like him. Even if you're an introvert that doesn't mean you're completely unwilling to entertain someone else's feelings or open yourself up to romantic advances literally being lobbed at your head. There have been plenty of opportunities for there to be some sort of development and wow, how convenient we're nearly at the end of the series without there having been any. It's been increasingly obvious that this is all a money grab because they suspect viewers will consume literally anything that has a BL tag. You spend the majority of the episode wading through mind-numbing unnecessary dialogue that's not pushing the plot forward so they could drag it out as long as possible. The piss poor effort coming from teams that we know can do better is really disappointing. At this point, they aren't even trying and it shows. You are perfectly within your right to enjoy the show, just like I'm also within my right to critique it when I feel like it deserves it. I'm not going to put lipstick on a pig and say it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen just because other people enjoy it, if I think it sucks I'm going to be honest and say so. You don't have to agree with me and that's ok.
Fiat is the biggest most spoiled brat. It's official, I can't stand him. I hate people who are entitled, I hate people who act like they can behave however they want, I hate people that feel like they can throw tantrums/pout/cry and get attention or whatever they're asking for. He's all that and more. It's so juvenile. He's nauseating. I honestly wish Leo would turn tail and run, Fiat doesn't deserve him.
At least Tharn and Type seem to have improved somewhat but again the dialogue just feels like filler, and there's a lot that doesn't make sense. For example...wasn't Tharn out of town? How convenient that he popped up at the bar Type was at five minutes after he saw his picture on social media. Also, he just leaves to go out of town for two weeks with a note that says "bye, see you later"? Especially after everything Type was going through? No phone call? They're completely obsessed with each other one moment, and the next they don't even speak to each other.
I do love Champ and Khunpol but even they're driving me kind of crazy. They keep circling around each other without really saying much of anything. Then when Champ does seem to try to initiate some kind of talk around their feelings Khun immediately shuts him down by changing the subject or making a joke. Do you like him or not? I know he's shy and his friends are encouraging him to be braver, but if the person you like is literally trying to make the first move so you don't have to and you're shutting them down...? How does that even make any sense? From my point of view, Champ doesn't seem dense about anything, he's been flirting with Khunpol nonstop since he set eyes on him again.
This series could have been cut down by half and it would have been fine. Again I don't know why I bother, Mame's writing drives me insane. I can't watch another series that she's involved with.
Because he's not a character in book 1, which the series is based off of. He never makes an appearance.
Yes, though the only translation on Wattpad isn't very good. I think the first novel is called Gen Y: First Love and all of them are written by Liu Lijun
Uh...I would lol I've loved the series so far. Since this season focuses around Mark/Kit which is book 1 the other…
Lol no worries. The only reason I originally watched it was for CopKim being able to reprise a MingKit type storyline. Since this series focuses on them I'm more than satisfied, everything else has been a bonus lol since I've been introduced to the other characters now and I'm fully curious (likely what the producers planned all along) I'll be checking out at least season 2 to see what happens. But then again it may be different for me because I went into it knowing about the three seasons and how they were going to each focus on a couple. I had read it in the announcement, so I wasn't expecting anything different.
Mark and Kit are too much for my heart. Their scenes together are so good. And damn the way Mark looked in that bar, I'm not surprised he had people trying to jump him. As much as I wanted them to get back together this episode, I was happy with the progress, I agree that Kit needs to start putting himself out there in the same way Mark has. Also, his hilarious "Ugh! I'll tell you when the mark fades" had me dying. I agree, I feel like I wouldn't be able to confess my feelings with a hickey from someone else staring me in the face lol
The story progression between Thanu, Wayu, and Phai is really interesting. I'm honestly not bothered by it because I never expected there to be a resolution for any other couple outside of Mark/Kit since they had already announced there were three seasons planned each centered around the main couple of each book. Book 1 is Mark/Kit so it makes sense. While I prefer Thanu with Yu, I'm not opposed to him and Phai. Honestly, all the characters are pretty endearing so I don't actively dislike any of them which is surprising.
Still holding out hope for Jack/Koh (though if I remember correctly Jack is a potential love interest for Yu so that might not happen). And I'm also still hoping for Sansab to get a more prominent storyline since he's hilarious. Overall, I had very low expectations for this series and I've been beyond pleasantly surprised by what we ended up with. Since I went into this just wanting closure from the OG MingKit lol I got that and then some. This was what us OG 2Moons fans all deserved.
Just found out this series comes from like 3 books. On what planet do they think most people are going to sit…
Uh...I would lol I've loved the series so far. Since this season focuses around Mark/Kit which is book 1 the other seasons are going to be centered around two different couples.
Is it just me or did this episode not make any sense? I felt really confused and out of the loop the whole episode. And I'll be honest, I was kind of...really grossed out by the food bingeing. It was too much for me. There was a moment where it almost felt like they were trying to make her look sexy eating the cupcakes and I just felt sick to my stomach. I can't imagine eating all that sugar in one sitting. Anyway, that was really OT, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that so far this doesn't seem to be my cup of tea.
I'm excited for this! I love the manga (excited for the Japanese live-action movie to finally be released and subbed as well) and I'm looking forward to seeing Kaownah in a leading role. If I'm not mistaken I think he's playing Ryoma and I think he really fits the part.
Not going to lie, second season's this year haven't been...great. This series has been a snooze fest for the most part. Zero character development, even from the first season. I think that's one of my main issues with Mame's writing (other than her seriously disturbing problematic tropes) she doesn't know how to successfully carry a plotline. The majority of the time she resorts to basic repetition. To the point that as a viewer I'm just annoyed by the jarring personality pitfalls that keep coming up. It's incredibly lazy writing, and I really wish people would stop glorifying it. It's not even that this series is awful, I wouldn't put it at the level of the mess we got with LBC2, but it's mediocre at best and that's sad considering some of the acting talent present.
How do you ruin a chemistry as great as Mew and Gulf's? There have been several times during their "intimate" scenes that the sultry is so overacted it's cringe-inducing. Rather than them appearing natural, you can tell those scenes have been added in to keep viewers entertained. It doesn't help that my issues with their relationship still stand, I feel like nothing has been addressed from season 1 other than Type being a more willing participant. I suppose we're only halfway through the series but I'm not holding my breath. I feel a bunch of loose threads coming.
I'm convinced she doesn't fully develop side characters partly because she's hoping they'll get picked up for their own series. This is something that's a huge detriment to the story as a whole because one storyline isn't strong enough to carry a series through. That's the only reason I have to explain the ridiculous amount of half-assed filler. The whole thing just feels really unfortunate.
Also, this is a completely unrelated side note but I have to say it, Techno has to be THE most ANNOYING and absolutely unnecessary character ever written. Hearing him speak is like nails on a chalkboard to me, I can't stand it.
I think because of how he's written in the novel. He's not actually a character, you just hear about him from the perspective of other characters. From the first chapter he's already gone, so you never actually "see" him if that makes sense. So maybe to stay true to how he was written in the novel they're not showing him in the series even though he's still involved because Yu still loves him and tries to see him.
I agree, this was just unnecessarily painful for everybody involved. I have no idea what they are doing with the…
That's what I mean though lol the reason the author of Gen Y wrote the novel is because she didn't like Pha and Wayo ending up together, especially after Godt left. So he was never really intended to be a character in this particular novel (not necessarily in the other two), but because it's based on the premise of 2Moons she still stayed true to Yo's initial infatuation with Pha before he moves on to someone else. So I don't think it was that they had to work around Godt leaving, his leaving was the reason GenY was written in the first place lol that and they wanted the story to center more around MingKit instead of PhaYo. So yes, it's an alternate universe of 2Moons but they made a fix-it fiction which are common in the fanfic world when someone doesn't like how a favorite storyline is developing hah.
I agree, this was just unnecessarily painful for everybody involved. I have no idea what they are doing with the…
I don't think it's necessarily that. This is how the novel was written. You never actually "see" Pha in the novel, he's gone from the first chapter but you read about him as Yu starts to work through getting over him. I think the author was trying to show a realistic way of Yu, who's been completely obsessed with Pha for so long, to start moving on. There was never going to be someone playing Pha, at least not for this season, maybe there will be in Yu's season, I'm not sure.
I agree, this was just unnecessarily painful for everybody involved. I have no idea what they are doing with the…
Personally, based on what Yu said this episode, I think they needed to show in a realistic way that he got closure. He was so broken up after Pha leaving and this whole time he's been holding on to the hope that he'll come back, explain things and everything will be fine. He won't allow himself to move on. It's a little obvious but Yu saying in the episode he needs to keep getting hurt so that he'll learn it's over makes sense. Yu's whole identity has been so entwined in his relationship with Pha it almost wasn't healthy. He doesn't know how to be without him, so I'm hoping this was the catalyst for him to FINALLY be able to let go and move on even if Pha does come waltzing back in. Regardless of whatever excuse Pha gives, he's being selfish and Yu deserves better. I hope he realizes that now, especially if he finds someone better lol. Though I did mention above I hope they show him healing and growing independent and happy on his own without a man for awhile first. I think he needs that.
If I never hear Pha’s name again, it’ll be too soon. So done with that character. I’m guessing that, next…
I think so, since there are three seasons planned (cross fingers they actually happen) that are each supposed to focus on a different couple, I would imagine we're not going to get resolution for Yu quite yet. This is supposed to be Mark/Kit's season.
