This series has so far been everything I was hoping it would be! It's hilarious, but also sweet with some great serious moments. I'm so proud of the SBFive boys for their acting, and the new characters have been so endearing. For example, I LOVE Sab he's so funny and sassy. I'm honestly curious how the storylines will pan out, I know people are thinking Thanu is going to end up with Phai but...I think that's a red herring haha. Also, I feel like the whole scene with Pha not showing needed to happen for Yu. Like Yu said, he never got closure, he was always going to just wait around for him to come back if something didn't happen to help him move on. I'm hoping this was the catalyst. Pha just tugging him around is making him realize how selfish he's being no matter what his reasoning is for leaving. I'm thinking Yu is going to start being able to move on and I'm all here for it. I'm ready to see happy Yu!!! Though since there are three seasons planned and this season is supposed to focus on Mark/Kit I'm not expecting any development for him and whoever he's paired with quite yet. Plus, I actually would like to see Yu be happy single for a bit. I think he revolved his identity so much around Pha (it happens to some people in relationships) he doesn't know who to be without him. I would really love if this series showed him growing independent and happy without a man for a while, then he gets someone who actually deserves him.
There are other couples I'm super intrigued with, Koh and Jack (they had me on the floor this episode) for one. I really hope they do get together in the end because their dynamic is too perfect to waste. I'm curious about Sab and Padbok as well, there was that moment where it seemed there might be something? Maybe it was just me? Just Padbok is such an asshole I'd love to see Sab take him down a peg or two. Anyway, so far I'm loving all the sweet, crazy, funny moments. Yes, it's a little bit on the cheesy "feel good" side but who cares? I'm in the holiday feel-good mood XD.
Mark and Kit are just...I can't have been the only one who was in tears this episode right? Gutted. I know the angst is par for the course but can we get back to our regular scheduled loveys?
I had put off watching this and now I'm wishing I'd put it off longer so I could binge the whole thing! I'm completely intrigued now. I so appreciate a narrative that's outside of the norm for BL, the added elements of the supernatural and psychological thriller - as the summary suggests - were a refreshing shift. I've been enjoying these darker themed storylines, like with Manner of Death. The production value isn't stellar but I'm left with a feeling of anticipation after each episode which is what a series should want. Someone save our baby lamb Vee! Lol. On a serious note, I'm curious to see if and how Vee might shift from innocent to...something else? I could see him evolving into a much stronger - emotionally and mentally - character as the series moves forward. I'm also totally here for warlock Vee getting his revenge.
This started out incredibly promising but not even halfway through the series it started falling apart. My main complaint is the pacing of the storyline. There were far too many unnecessary filler moments. I know some people complained about them focusing so much on Tan and his dad mending their relationship, but I actually appreciated that they did put some focus on that, as I think it was important character development. I do like when there are more humanistic aspects to series and it doesn't center entirely around the romantic relationships. My issue with the storyline is that it was poorly developed. We never really got a conclusion between Tan, Kao, the dad, and even Tan's mom. There could have been so much more dialogue to explain and resolve things. It's bizarre that they just sort of seemed to leave about ten story threads dangling in midair. I'm wondering if there will be a season 2 because there was so much left unresolved.
A lot of people took issue with Oil, but I actually found him to be one of the more compelling characters. Part of the problem is I think people weren't understanding certain situations that were happening due to confusing subtitles and very little explanatory content throughout the series. For example, people thought Oil had lied to Tan so he could go out with Kun when that wasn't what happened. I find it interesting that people blame Oil for not being "true" to Tan. What exactly did Tan do to merit Oil sitting around waiting for him to get his shit together? I'm honestly frustrated by that thought process. Tan never once said anything to establish they were in a relationship, i.e. Oil is single. People complain that he flirts...ok? So does Tan, Tan is so hot and cold I'm not surprised Oil is confused. I was actually glad to see Oil exploring other options. If he wants to date someone who actually has the balls to be upfront about his feelings and who doesn't hide that he likes him, that's a bad thing? I don't get people feeling sorry for characters who force their love interest to wait indefinitely until they're ready for a relationship, at the same time displaying toxic possessive behaviors even though they have no right to be behaving that way. It's fine that Tan needed time to come to terms with his feelings, but forcing Oil not to pursue another love interest who is brave enough to have a relationship is selfish. Either you want to be with him or you don't. I don't blame Oil for putting distance between him and Tan after his ridiculous jealous blow-up. He didn't even give him a chance to explain that he hadn't even planned on going out with Kun, and he was trying to help Tan mend his relationship with his dad and brother by staying behind for the dinner. I won't even speak to Tan coming in at the end and dragging Oil out of Kun's car, the guy needs some therapy for real. I honestly wish Oil had put his childhood feelings behind him and moved on with Kun, who was really the one who treated him the best throughout the entire series.
Tin and Sea were kind of a missed opportunity, but I didn't really see it going anywhere after Sea's love confession to his best friend. That happened so late in the series I didn't think we were going to get any resolution for him and Tin. I'm still wondering if they may do a season 2 with these two, but if they do I really hope they make some much-needed changes. I change of writer would be a good start. Overall I wouldn't recommend watching it just because you're likely to be left unsatisfied haha. After the first few episodes, things move at a snail's pace and don't really go anywhere.
Uh. I'm not really sure what this ended up being to be honest. As much as I felt for Mark at the end of this, it's probably best that things ended here. As erratic as the entire storyline has been, this really took a shift into left field that just seemed completely unnecessary. It would have been one thing if the writing had held up to the shift in plot, but as it was it just felt choppy and jarring. Niko really carried his character through, and I was actually pleasantly surprised at some of Marky's acting moments. I will say he and Niko have some crazy chemistry haha overall it was kind of a waste of talent in my opinion. Still hoping I'll see Niko in something better considering how many Filipino BL we've been getting lately.
So far I really love this series, it's short but sweet. I really love Sang Yi, he has such a shy gentle nature and it's really endearing. It will be really interesting once him and In Soo move in together. I sense trouble on the horizon for their relationship though, even if I appreciate them highlighting some of the realities of idol life. I'm also really confused by Yoo Jin's character, she has to know Sang Yi has a massive crush on In Soo right? I mean how could you possibly miss it?
Well, that took a serious turn. After this, I hope Niko kicks JACE to the curb and gets picked up by a series that would actually do him justice. He has some great potential in the right hands. Curious to see where this will end. RIP to my dreams of Lukas and Lee, I honestly can't stand Henry so this is probably where I'll end my journey with this series. I swear, what is it with Lee and toxic relationships? Boy needs to stop dating at this point.
This series is so good. I knew as soon as the first episode started we were in for an amazing plot, stellar acting, and high production value. I'm already excited to watch each week.
Plus it's from the director of The Blue Hour...phew. I hope my expectations are met. Please let this be as good as I'm hoping it will be. It already reminds me a lot of 3 Will Be Free which I loved.
If there's an issue I'm uncomfortable about on this series, it's the power relations between the boss (Kian) and…
I completely agree with this. Kian is obviously used to getting his way, he's never had to work for anything and is content to let others (namely Aron) do things for him. He's so used to it, he doesn't see what a shitty way of treating Aron it was when the other friend came in this episode. He was like a child when a new shiny toy came into the picture, the old toy being shuffled to the side. While Aron right now is happy to humor him, I can't see this being a great dynamic going into a relationship. Being used and tugged around at the whim of your partner isn't necessarily conducive to a good relationship. From my point of view Kian needs some growing up to do first before he's even close to Aron's level of maturity, and therefore ready to be in a relationship with him.
Ok. I'm officially here for all of this. This is one of those guilty pleasure type of shows that you watch because you enjoy the characters and who is portraying them. This has already given me so much closure for KimCop from 2Moons it's not even funny. MarkKit all the way. I also really love Bas and Dun's chemistry in real life so I'm excited Thanu finally made an appearance. And yes, he's gorgeous. Pha honestly was never my favorite character so he can scoot on out of the picture for all I care. I'm also really liking some of the new characters, like how cheeky Sab is. That tease with him and Padbok has me interested. Overall, is it this super stellar, amazing series? No but it's entertaining and I'm enjoying it a lot so far. I'll also say that Kim, Bas, and Cop are doing really well, I'm proud of them.
I don't think the pronunciation is the problem. It's the same word when you read it on paper, really. They shouldn't…
It's honestly Thai naming culture. It's very common for siblings to be named (as far as their nicknames) a very similar variation of the same thing, and for that to be tied somehow to their parents' nicknames. Thai people put a lot of importance into naming and the significance of certain names. For example common boy names are Book, Bank, Boat, Oat, Benz, Win, Golf (which why we see them a lot) and they do have significance. Book references knowledge/intelligence, Bank references wealth, etc. I read a post that talked about Thai naming culture and it was an interesting read. The author mentioned a real-life example of her friend whose name is Name and who has a brother whose name is Nam...which means Name in Thai. In the author's family her dad's name is On, her mom's name is Oh and her siblings are Oct, Oil, and Ong. Also in Thai the spellings would be different from their romanization, so there's more variance. Obviously they aren't going to consider what it looks like in English as they're writing this in their language and for Thai readers. Thai authors are also going to follow the format of naming in their culture. I'd really recommend delving into the culture as it sometimes answers questions you might not realize.
Niko is stunning for real. He also has more acting ability than I've seen from anyone in these series, so that's a plus. The production value also rose somewhat which is...surprising. Overall, it's four episodes with a gorgeous lead who's a more interesting character than we've had so far, so why not?
You know its true love when someone risks getting tetanus for you..The whole contest felt underwhelming. The only…
Oh my God, I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought about tetanus when they showed that cut-away of him deliberately cutting himself against that rusty grate! I was pretty horrified haha
In my very humble opinion, Pure and Folk's storyline (plus JJ and Fiat's acting) are hard carrying this series. I feel like at some point I gave up on Itt and Pai without even realizing it hah it's not that they're bad per se? I just think the writing in general probably let them down. There were quite a few decisions made with the pacing of this series that didn't make a lot of sense to me. I've heard different accounts of what the novel is like, and it seems to be that their relationship is written differently (and makes more sense) there, which is a shame. I've also always been bothered by the bullying to lovers trope too, it doesn't sit well with me. Overall I'm not blown away by this series, but I'm kind of grateful we get to see Fiat shine through it haha.
What is the name of the Wattpad story that this story is based on?
Gen Y, the series lol or in thai วัยรุ่นวุ่นYรัก (Wai Roon Woon Y Rak). The full title of the first book is called Gen Y: First Love and the series is written by Liulijun. There are three novels in the series (as far as I know). Oh and I'm actually not sure if it was first published on Wattpad.
