I’m not exactly sure what he wants. I think he truly believes the realm is going down the drain with the reforms, just like any old ultra conservative miser, and he was openly humiliated by the people in the streets in the opening part of this episode. I guess his stance is not popular with the people either. Is he just being stubborn and petty? Don’t know. Seems like a dumb move out of pride and selfishness. His grandson is only going to suffer for it.
So-so production and not the greatest script. Lots of things cut/edited/re-named and recorded over due to copyright and probably censorship issues.
Still, it's fun to see the cast from a few years ago (filmed in 2023) before they really became big. They're having fun on set and not taking it too seriously. Deng Wei is using his own voice for the first time, which is nice to hear. His story is probably the most interesting to me.
Dai Lu Wa and Riley don't have too much to do here, but they make a cute 2nd couple. Tian Jia Rui is adorably cute here (his character has zero sense of direction). All in all, lots of fun eye candy and some decent storylines here and there regarding women empowerment, helping others, and living your life on your own terms.

To the unhappy watchers here, what are you watching now that's better? Need an additional series ...
Not a completely unhappy watcher here, but I've just finished The First Jasmine (very different tone but very well-made). I mostly watch period dramas, so I'm probably going to wait for Blossoms of Power and maybe Key to the Phoenix Heart. There are some modern ones coming really soon such as Road to Success and Love for You. Not much my cup of tea but may be interesting for some.

Yeah, I guess I was hoping it would have been developed further. But in any case, it’s noble families vs commoners, which also played out in ancient China.
Ep 25 was fun, enjoyed the fight although definitely low budget.
Things must have been cut from Tian Xing's story. It's only hinted at that Tian Yue came out of his trauma in his past to help him survive. But I have no idea - maybe the original story is different.
There are bits of interesting stories here at there (Wei Rong, Tian Xing, moments between Zheng elder and Zheng Shi), but then there are weird, forced romance scenes that are nonsensical (I think playing erhu in the fire takes the cake for me). I wish more attention were placed on the human stories - stories about misfits and outcasts and how they are finding their place in the world. Stories about people who want to go against what society expects of them (that's every character in this show: Fan Yun wanting to be an official, Qi Zheng being a capable ruler independent from the elders' control, Zheng Shi wanting to live his own life, Wei Shisan for being not your typical young noble lady, etc). And less attention on a romance that really is going nowhere at this point in any direction among our 3 main characters...
