The hate campaign from capital is a separate issue. This is Tencent knowing GOTD is a cash cow and trying to recoup as much as possible from their investment in purchasing this drama from Xinli (GOTD is not produced by Tencent). Even without the hate campaign, the suspicious system crash on the premier day, dumping all the cloud seats (VIP memberships), prevented them to reach the 29k they were on track of reaching. Tencent did not recover or reimburse the fans. GOTD’s viewership is doing great and is not an issue. The hate campaign failed to stop people from watching. They resorted to shadowblocked GOTD and Dylan on social media.

They filmed at a university campus, library, and camping. In the novel he died from alcohol and somehow traveled through time and space to the Dafeng world. He stayed in that world. For the drama, I think he has to return to the modern world to pass censorship, because of the reincarnation & time travel ban in China.
