Thai Chinese dominate the Thai entertainment industry in front of and behind the camera. They're definitely much more overrepresented than the mixed white people in spite of the fact those mixed people often do garner a lot of fame quickly because of their appearance. There are also countless shows in which Thai Chinese take leading roles.

TopTap, in spite of having been born in Nan, is indeed of Chinese descent. He's said it himself and he has name 邱常誉 on his IG too. Also, "all the Chinese people live in Bangkok"? No. MOST of them do. Not all.

I live in China and have been to Thailand several times which is partially why I responded in the first place. I've been there and seen it firsthand.

Bottom line: Chinese are way more overrepresented throughout Thai media.

I think we can both agree that we'd like to see the playing field evened out in this respect though...

Definitely agree about the lack of acting skills. I guess that's kinda true about the white privilege thing, but if any ethnicity is over-privileged when it comes to the entertainment industry in Thailand, it's the Chinese. A disproportionate number of the actors, even in BLs are of Chinese descent. Even in this BL, Win, TopTap, and Green are of Chinese descent. Bright on the other hand is actually half ethnically Thai, quarter white, and a quarter Chinese.

Aside from the almost repulsive storyline that was Kengkla/Techno and Can's response to Tin, I really enjoyed this series. Ae and Pete as a couple set really good examples. Pete's very soft-spoken and a little sensitive and Ae is as thoughtful of a person as we can hope for. It's refreshing to see a 'top' in a BL who has a decent level of restraint over his own actions and feelings who knows how to channel his aggression (and horniness) properly. I also enjoyed Pond's character because I was constantly shifting between loving him and hating him. He's like the Loki of the LBC universe.

If I didn't know that this series was getting a second season, the bitterness I felt from Can's decision would have brought the rating lower for me. Speaking of ratings, mine gets lowered because given Tar's part of the story and how jarring that was, I don't know how on earth Kengkla/Techno is expected to be readily accepted by the audience. That whole thing is extremely jarring and very upsetting to watch.

It was definitely worth the watch, though. Ae and Pete are love and Tin/Can's build up is really entertaining.

Another question though: are Tum and Tar supposed to be in a pseudo-romantic relationship? They're brothers, but both in this series and in TharnType, their relationship seems very romantic and if I remember correctly, Type makes some sort of comment to Tum to the effect of "you're in love with your own brother" (this comment was made in LBC btw, not TharnType)

I'm really glad to know it was made after the creators got the response from the fans. I'm looking forward to it even more now.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL! My baby BL lover self is so excited.

I'm really excited for the next 5-episode installment because I imagine it was already at least mostly filmed before they were able to see the fans backlash toward the series itself. I'm curious to see if they'll offer more substance the couple and if this will be the yummy icing on a not-so-good cake.

I'll even stick around for season 2 just to see how much they did actually take the reaction to first season into account. You're right about it really being a part of the zeitgeist though. That high five will live on in infamy! My BL watcher friends and I even joke around with the name calling it 2Roomates or 2Classmates. LOL The series is as fun to diss as it is to love.

So, are the Tharn Type of this show supposed to be the Tharn/Type of the other show?

This series is VERY Chinese. There are lots of cues that you're just not going to pick up on if you aren't familiar with Chinese history or culture. Even the operas make very deep points in reference to the story at large that are completely lost on international audiences.

About the pace, Chinese dramas always build slow. The stage is set by around ep 25 and shit hits the fan from episode 33 onwards. I'd recommend checking out AvenueX's videos on YouTube about this drama and I think you could appreciate it more. Also, just take your time. This one isn't a binger.

Reading through the comments reminds me of why it's better for me to wait until a BL fully airs and then binge it/watch it at my own leisure. During the week between each episode, it seems like a lot of people formed in their own minds how they thought the story should go in the next episode and then complained when it didn't go that way. I feel like this kinda blurs judgement a bit.

I saw the PeteKao cut, Our Skyy, then this all within the span of a few days and it really didn't come off to me as bland as it clearly did to so many. Maybe it was an 'anticipation then let down' kinda thing? I'm not sure.

For me, I thought the series was good. Nothing surprised me and nothing really wowed me except for Pete and Kao's relationship with their parents which honestly brought a tear to my eye at one point and is one of the most tender things I've seen in a BL. Could some of the kisses have been more passionate? Meh I guess, but every series isn't gonna be at the level of TharnType and Why R U when it comes to that kinda thing and it's OK for me since I don't feel like the couples were less passionate for it.

At this point, I really don't think anyone will be as heavily let down or disappointed by this series as the people who watched it week by week. lol

The main reason I was putting it off was because I knew it was a drama full of straight couples with like one and half gay couples on the side and I had 0 patience for sitting through all that. lol

I've only seen three episodes so far, but....can RainMork be a thing? Cuz I want RainMork to be a thing.

Since you loved this, you should definitely go back and watch Kiss Me Again (just the PeteKao cut, though).

This takes place after Kiss Me Again/Our Skyy. Kao's dad said to not let other people know they're in a relationship, so I guess they decided to respect that? Not sure about the photography thing though.
