4/5/2020: First installment broadcast has Himura in Okinawa, eating a variety of comfort dishes, including a seriously humongous platter of katsu curry. Studio guests Sashihara Rino and Mori Izumi get to laugh at a lot of video.
Final episode on NGN: 9/7/2019: Kichijoji. Guests are Sakashita Chiriko, one of Ariyoshi's great guests on the program. First-time guest is Fujinami Tatsumi, an ex-pro wrassler. He also did a stint in the States as "Doctor Fujinami." His wiki page is quite extensive.
NGN is cancelling Shojiki Sanpo in September, replacing it with another foodie/travel-themed program. Apparently the licensing cost doubled -- I guess Ariyoshi garners top-tier prices for the overseas markets.
I will miss my weekly visit to random Tokyo neighborhoods and the return of Shopan from maternity leave, in particular!
I'm back! Just watched recent episodes, unsubbed. Guests were Otomo Karen, Makise Riho, and the most recent episode, MOKOMICHI! What a delight, even with the COVID protocols in-show.
New on NGN: 8/24/2019. New on NGN: Heiwajima in Ota-ku. Frequent guest Katsumata returns to hang out with a lonely Ariyoshi. First-time lady guest is Maruyama Karina, former soccer player for the national team and now general talento with an agency and everything.
New on NGN: 8/19/2019. Oshiage in Sumida-ku, the Sky Tree town. The returning comedian duo is TIM, last seen together on the show in October 2016. The role of the pretty girl is played by Kato Nana, last seen in October 2018. I punched her name in search and a whole lotta gossipy links came up on the first page, before any kind of Wiki page. The top link was her IG so assume all is OK with her.
New on NGN: 7/27/2019. Kameari in Katsushika-ku. First of all, my gal Imori Miyuki is back! Hardly nothing else matters! Well, there's also the token comedian dude for this stroll, Itoda Jun. He's half of the Speed Wagon comedy duo. Hey, Imori is all that matters for me...
New on NGN: 7/13/2019. Ebisu. Guests are Takizawa Karen, of whom about I've said enough. I think she's ten times more popular right now than when this episode aired. This week's comedy duo is GINSHARI (銀シャリ), another Yoshimoto comedy duo I've never heard of before. Did a cursory search for a bio in English and found bupkis.
Watched this a few years ago on NGN-TV and still can't wrap my head around what happened in the final episode...
...When about half the people in the concert hall just up and walked out in the middle of the show. Not like they were angry and protesting against the scandal-rich performers. Was it just a big symbolic gesture of forgiveness, throwing away the tabloid magazines, etc.? If so, I mean... they coulda stayed in their seats until the end of the concert yanno.
Excellent drama overall, I just didn't understand the meaning behind that sequence.
New on NGN: 6/29/2019. Ichigaya in Shinjuku. Veteran model and talento Kumada Yoko joins the show for the first time. Veteran guest and comedy foil Tanaka Takushi returns, hopefully with less abuse from Ariyoshi-kun.
New on NGN: 6/15/2019. Todoroki in Setagaya-ku -- NGN skipping forwards. Guests are Himura Yuki of the Banana Man comedy team and veteran actor Okamoto Nobuto, fond of picking and eating weeds straight outta the ground. Today's pretty girl is first-timer Ogura Yuka, not even 21 years old at the time of broadcast. No matter: any decent image search will show you the goods!
New on NGN: 4/6/2019. Naka Meguro. NGN going backwards, giving us the first episode sans Shopan. Guests are Wakatsuki Chinatsu and Iwai Yuki of the Haraichi comedy duo -- odd to see him solo on the program instead of Sawabe.
New on NGN: 6/1/2019. Kaminakazato. The non-Shopan episodes continue. Our good friend Kasuga Toshiaki (トゥース!) comes by to lend much-needed company. Playing the pretty gal role is a returnee, Tani Maria. Look, you know I play my favorites here but hey, Tani is aight by me.
Have read very good things about this new "Waru" version. Watched Episode 1 last night on NGN. Actually compelled me to go lookup the original with Ishida Hikari from 1992. Quite the contrast.
Final episode just completed on NGN. The conclusion was wild, wacky stuff but I guess kinda fit the overall narrative. If Byakuya can be a medical wizard one moment and a social misfit the next, then why not everything else that happened.
New on NGN: 5/18/2019. First-time guest is Komiya Hironobu, one-half of another comedy duo. Another comedy duo joins the, Oasis, along with the necessary pretty girl, Moriyama Rui, a talento/announcer.
New on NGN: 5/4/2019. Guests include my absolute fave: IMORI MIYUKI! Also returining are Trendy Angel, a comedy duo that dress like Richie Rich cosplay, except looking ten times older.
New on NGN: 4/20/2019. Minowa in Taito-ku. NGN skipped three episodes forward to the one I kinda dreaded seeing. The late Ueshima Ryuhei joins Ariyoshi, who is steering the ship solo due to Shopan's maternity leave. Returning pretty girl guest is Asahina Aya -- do an image search for more proof!
