I saw a post suggesting that if Disney writes off the expense of this show as a loss on their taxes that they…
Warner Bros did this last year with some movies and animated series and their financials at the time were worse than Disney's are now. Also, the costs of the projects they wrote off were surely far more than whatever stake Disney has in this series. With that said, it's a very rare practice and typically a last resort. In WB's case the company had been in the process of restructuring after a merger so it made sense for them, though they were largely crucified for setting a bad precedent in the industry with the write-offs. I think Disney is more likely to shop the series to a different entity who is willing to take the heat and complete the project or air it as is before entertaining a tax write-off.
The issue is bigger than Disney merely deciding whether or not to air as airing it would only make sense if they were to resume filming of part two. From what I understand both parts are necessary. Getting the ensemble back together to do just that is probably the more difficult battle in play right now and will likely be the deciding factor. And with that the question becomes, does the cast still even want to be associated with the series given the allegations?
I understand this sentiment but at what point do we acknowledge the downside to trending garbage is more garbage? Do your favs not deserve better scripts than this? Because that's what you're co-signing.
If you genuinely liked the series then naturally you'll want to help it trend but for those who didn't and are only propping it up because their favs are leads then that is only going to get these guys more of the same going forward. Personally, I think they deserve better but if the bulk of their fandom genuinely liked this series then I suppose it served its purpose and that's that.
They did a better job than I thought they would at managing screen-time for such a large cast. I went in expecting most of the mains to be killed off early on in order to reserve more screen-time for some of the fan favorites but they didn't and I'm glad for it. Much of the supporting cast got nearly as much (if not as much) screen-time as the main players. This makes me less nervous about and even more excited for Restart!
JUSTICE FOR MUEANG + HIS DOC!
