Just watched this series a second time, so had to up my rating of it. I noticed so many more things on rewatch that really made me appreciate it so much more. Love the multiple meanings in what people said and the multiple layers of context bringing various themes more in depth meaning and often full circle. It is rare for me when a series is even better on rewatch. The plot holes are still there, but they dull in comparison to the rest;)
And ep1 was just such a good beginning (especially music).
After watching it a second time, I noticed all these moments with multiple interpretations. My fav is when Yichen tells him to 'do what he does best' and ZYZ lowers his eyes almost shyly saying it isnt' really the right moment for this. Had me cackling like a lunatic at that innuendo as Yichen responds in exasperation with 'Acting! I meant acting!"
They threw Dudu’s WenXiao script out the window after her epicness in episode one. 🤣 Her character WenXiao…
Oh, I so love your explanation/insight into the curse aspect! So good!
It kinds nagged on me that they could have ended it in a big way with Wen Xiao doing what the Goddess does best and sacrificing herself to save the world (they could have gave her an epic ending that was fitting for her character) and saving her friends. Then upon her death, she transfers the Baize Token to ZhaoYuanZhou which makes sense for the following reasons: 1) It will indefinitely prevent him from ever losing control ever again. 2) He is a vessel for the power that drives the Baize Token anyway (malicious energy). 3) He will live 'forever' so bring stability to the 'Goddess' position. 4) He has shown he cares for BOTH realms and understands both demons and humans. He was even groomed for it by the last two Goddesses. 5) He won't be lonely because since YiChen is also a demon now, he'll live a long time as well, helping to keep the peace in both realms.
There was a quote earlier in series where it basically said that humans were born ignorant so needed to learn knowledge, and demons were born aggressive so need to learn restraint. ZhaoYuanZhou is the definition of restraint at this point: A demon who becomes like a human. While YiZan is a human who becomes a demon (obtaining understanding/knowledge).
To the new viewers! What do you think of the Pei siblings’ story? lol I still can’t forgive SiJing even if…
I feel like the Pei sibling story line is a reflection of how most humans in this world are. Demons are bad to them; they don't try to see past that. It is a theme they repeat even when Yichen starts turning into a demon (becoming the outcast where noone gives you a chance). Not to mention how ZhaoYuanZhou was treated by everyone. Demons are the outcasts; it is rare for humans to look past the negative. But that is why is matters: the changing attitudes of these 6 who learn about one another and become closer.
The Pei siblings I feel also is supposed to highlight the forgiveness aspect that overlaps with ZhaoYuanZhou to Yichen (killing of his family) and to WenXiao (killing of her master). Forgiveness doesn't mean you have to be happy about it or forgetting it....but you can take those feelings and redirect them into a more positive way instead.
Idk....I felt like something was left out of the Pei sibling story also.... like there must be more details that we don't see that lead up to her killing her brother. But I guess she is supposed to represent regular humans and their irrational distrust of demons to help highlight how different WenXiao is. What you think?

We also found out toward the end, that if Yuanzhou dies instead of WenXiao.... he releases (lets free) all the malicious energy that is needed for the cycle goddess token to repeat: The interpretation was that the current goddess gets a whole bunch of power from this which she needed to make it rain to make that demonic plague go away. It *is* a lot of hand waving, I agree....and really you can prolly see some plot holes already....but she is also close to both of them, so there is that, too. Gotta have the mandatory angst! 🤣
Also, don't let us forget, in the beginning, they also talked of the curse from his family line where Yichen is supposed to kill a powerful demon with his sword. At first they spoke of it being fated, as if it was a good thing (like the story of his ancestor killing the 'evil' dragon....which we found out later wasn't the full story), but WenXiao's father, was like "no; it is a curse". So that came full circle also: cursed to kill his best friend.

Remember that saving Wen Xiao really is just saving the goddess to save the world (both realms). It honestly has less to do with Wen Xiao and more to do with saving all the living beings in the world. The boys ultimately want to save the world itself (not Wen Xiao). Wen Xiao could be replaced by ANY goddess in the same situation; she is the linchpin to save the world.

It is a common trope in Chinese drama for women to be physically fragile/weak, but on a journey to be emotionally 'strong'. Suffering in silence and surviving is seen as virtue for women (and a kind of beauty), instead of just actively doing something about it. For example, it is a virtue for a woman to suffer through a horrible marriage quietly (like a badge of honor for her to keep with it and not make a scene), when in western cultures, you'd just divorce his dumb ass and go find your own happiness. Love it or hate it. It is grating on the nerves a lot from a western perspective, but can work if it works for the story/culture. Not all stories/characters have this trope, but it is a common one. Just like the cultural one where immature, whining, high voiced women are 'cute' (aka women acting like little children). To understand why people are drawn to these things can give a window into understanding ones perspective/society/culture/etc.
This was fun and stunning. Beautiful cinematography/costumes/actors. An emotional ride. Drink lots of water if you powerwatch it so you don't dry up from all the tears😣
Minato(sml) loved sou (ml). he was his closest friend. you don't date your best friend's ex. but FL and SML's…
Sou also says words to his family, so I took it to mean that Sou thought of Minato as his family (they are that close). The whole proverbial "Bros before Hoes". :D
Another thing: It is weird because he explains to FL that speaking without hearing his own voice PAINS him. Maybe by not speaking with her he is actually being his true self and desires her to accept him for that...or to understand him more? It also implies that despite liking the FL, their relationship is still a 'work in progress'. They aren't officially dating yet or together. They are not in a mature relationship yet,but that is where they both want to go. It is possible, that he may actually say her name at some point in their future when they are actually a family. Anyway....I don't know for sure.....just guessing......
I watched 7 eps.At first ,when I watched the childhood scenes , I really rooted for main couple .I thought Minato…
Also, I think it is a good way of showing that you can fall in love with (or have deep feelings of love for) many people throughout your life. That is normal for many people. It is up to you on who you settle down with in society that mandates monogamy. And it also means you don't have to hate and ignore all your exes (I hate that trope so much). You can be good friends still with those you tried having a 'more than friends' relationship with. This series showed a lot of emotional maturity with that.
I am finally watching this drama, loving it so far. But watching on Viki with comment on( I like commenting my…
It is just a lack of intellectual and emotional maturity. Age and life experience all play a part. I just assume it is young tweens, to give them the benefit of the doubt. ;) Or it could just be trolls or people just caring less about the show and more about just talking stupid with others because they are lonely and/or bored. People can be strange. Don't worry to deeply about it for your own sanity <3
If you are looking for a light ROM COM, this is NOT what this is. It does have romance, but it is more a slice of life story following multiple characters surrounding one friend's life changing diagnosis. If you go into it expecting that, and have a good level of emotional maturity, it is a really good story that explores a lot of good questions about life, especially the different ways we can love those around us, be it family, friends, lovers.
Hey! It is the 'side couple' from Guardian (Goblin)! Is this like one of their reincarnations? ;D Let me pretend that our grim reaper and queen get a happy life....FINALLY! ;D They have such great chemistry together! Great actors!
just started ep 4, and maybe it'll be answered later, but why is Ju Yeong being so nice to the dad? pisses me…
JuYeong was abandoned as a child (he is adopted), so he has this deep desire to NOT abandon others no matter what. His trauma of abandonment causes him to be overly sensitive to it.
Also he may think a bad dad is still a dad that was there, so is better than a dad that abandons you? It is also Dohoe's biological father, so as an adopted child who was abandoned by his biological family, he may have some irrational attachment to this idea of biological parents.
🤔guys i dont understand why didnt he do anyhting when his dad hit juyeong
I think a big part of it is Dohoe's coping mechanism is to "pretend like nothing happened". That is how he survives each day. He knew it happened (he called the police) but he desperately tried to pretend it didn't to keep his sanity so he can continue with exam. This is clearly not a healthy way for him to deal with it. Hense why he FAILED his exam and he kept failing it every year he took it. Ignoring pain doesn't make it magically go away. This kind of broke him because he realized this made him a horrible person for ignoring his friend's pain and he felt guilty about it and also his way of dealing with it. Some people, when they are hurting will just run and hide from EVERYTHING/ONE. This is a coping mechanism that Dohoe uses.
And ep1 was just such a good beginning (especially music).

Just so many thoughts running though my mind....
World being saved? Yes, happy ending.
All the characters being alive by end? ..... open ended.
