Wow. This series is so complex. It is much more about trauma and how it can affects (haunts?) people in different ways, and also about what it means to be truly be happy in life. The pace is a little jarring at times as it jumps all over the place (especially eps 6 thru7) so it feels very confusing trying to follow the plot. But it all comes together and makes sense by the end, I feel. The subplot of the love story is also very cute; great actors. Worth a watch.

Walden (by Thoreau) is all about the exploration of what it means to be happy. We had to cover this book in one of my literature classes. If we get rid of our 'greed' and live a simple life, we will be less anxious and happier. Greed is like the strange desire to compare ourselves with others or the people (generations) that came before us. Trying to live by the rules/guidelines of others can be a burden and make us more anxious especially when we can't meet those perceived expectations of others. Greed is also luxuries in life like big house, big cars, the 'perfect' job, having the 'perfect' image, etc. Greed complicates our lives preventing us from seeing the simple beauty it is. If we stop worrying about what others think of us, be ourselves, and just live in the simplicity of the moment, then we can be happier.
The cross necklace is from Juyeong's adoptive family. Clearly it is also a religious designation (Christianity). You notice he takes it off when he does things with Dohoe.....when he is being himself. The necklace is like a burden of expectation to live life a certain way (being gay is against Christian religions for example), so you notice he stops wearing it completely by end. He is living as himself (for himself) instead of trying to force himself into a mold that others want him to be.
I have to agree on Juyeong keeping in touch with Dohoe's dad was weird. I think they made him too forgiving for…
I was contemplating multiple reasons maybe.... Juyeong was adopted and he was abandoned by his adoptive parents....and when Dohoe left, he probably felt abandoned again. Looking at Dohoe's dad, he is seeing that the Dad is being abandoned by his son. That abandonment might have triggered sympathy/compassion/whatever in him because it relates to Juyeong's own trauma. I also wonder if it is because Juyeong didn't have anywhere else to go. Despite everything, the Dad was the only person who didn't abandon him, so maybe that is why he treated him the way he did.....and like you said it is the only connection to Dohoe he has. Not all of our actions are seated in logic; often we just respond by impulse.....
The 'couple' were just the fun side story. I felt like the main attraction and the main character was really the older, skilled demon hunter, who stole the show with all the best fight sequences. And the actor who played the demon/entity Lao Lao really was fun to watch with the flipping between masculine/feminine mannerisms and voice.....loved the creepy vibe. That actor was perfect. A fun little action flick that doesn't take itself too seriously, when you just want something fun and need a break from long drama series.

Sadly a lot of people are only tolerant when it isn't their own family directly involved. They are ok with gays so long as it is not their own kids. I suspect the mom is this way. She is ok with it being her kid's friend only. I think she sincerely worries about him and cares for him. But, she was very relieved when he said he was moving away. It doesn't mean she is a bad person; just is human nature. It is a societal stigma and can make your life complicated; a lot of parents want easy life for their own kids.
I wish they'd just release these very short series as a movie. Because they are really just movies and that is totally fine. I wish they'd be at peace with that.
Finished! This series was waaaaaaaay better than I was expecting! This is why I will just give any series a try since you never know when you hit a gem! Loved the story, the acting, the characters, and wow.....the cinematography was def high quality. The MUSIC was well used and so good. Props to the editing also! I've seen most of these actors in other work, and man.....did they all just seem to be on a higher level here. Love the whole vibe.
