Not really, no. But we don't really have a fitting definition what counts as BL. There is also a difference between BL and LGBTq media but I don't want to enter that discourse again, especially not here on MDL <.< but those two areas are mixing together recently as well, so it's just hard to categorize "BL".

Utsukushii Kare is a live action of a BL novel. In general BLs don't have to be innocent, fluffy and PG 13. I do agree that the term 'Boys Love' is a bit limiting, vague and misleading (that's not even an universal term. Thailand calls them Y(aoi) -series ) but it still includes non-fluffy ones and movies as well. KinnPorsche is also a BL and 18+. Who said that BLs have to be series? Pornographer (S1) & Mood Indigo (S2) is a series they have 6 episodes each, it's prequels are movies. And that series is also based on a BL manga as well 🤷‍♂️ the question is where does the genre of BL end? It definitely can be mixed with other genres too.

Uhm.... the whole Novelist / Pornographer series, Utsukushi Kare, The Cornered Mouse Dreams of Cheese. There are more japanese BLs with full on kisses and smut scenes out there, but the quality of them is so bad that I forgot about them.

I am actually more surprised that we went backwards with japanese BLs to innocent and still kisses again 🤔

I think the sweet packaging is to lure a certain audience in to watch and give them an eye opening experience instead. Because if you tell the hardcore fluffy BL fan that this actually contains BL critic they don't even try to watch it.

lol... were you expecting literal porn? I mean the main is a porn actor but they can't show that in 'regular' films that's why we get all those funny little censoring angles here. (besides the blanc version of this is 15+ (in japan) it's only rated 18+ for the alternative noir ending)

aannnd 18+ ratings don't apply to nudity or graphic sex scenes only but also for violence and disturbing or difficult scenes / themes.

I didn't mean for BL specifically but showing kisses on screen in general (the development for BLs is just slower than hetero media). I read it somewhere that the sniff kiss became popular because kissing wasn't allowed to be shown back then. Read it in a "kissing in asian media" discourse post. Could be possible that this was wrong info.

I haven't seen this drama yet but generally the rare-kisses thing might be due to censorship and how much "explicit" or "gay things in media" are allowed in that country. It's possible that they have a kiss counter / rules how to show kisses for shows regarding age restrictions and being suitable for broader audiences. Even the rooftop kiss in Bad Buddy was just shown from afar and shortened on Thai TV (on yt it's uncut).

I think kDrama BLs were only allowed one 'fish' kiss for a long time as well and only now dare a bit further into normal kisses....

Also reasons why sniff kisses became a thing instead.

Leave your brain and expectations at the door and you might be entertained. Don't get attached to the characters and watch it as an outside viewer like witnessing some neighbors drama.

yall are exaggerating... there are way worse dramas out there. This one here is not a masterpiece ...nope ... but watchable when you are bored and in the mood for brain-off trash, with no expectations. The side couple is surprisingly good at the end (I mean the second gay one, tho the hetes are kinda adorable). But to be fair I srsly just finished this show to get closure for Dao and especially for Ice (this guy is the only on in here with some brain cells).

And I find ep0 not even much better as everyone says? It's the same quality (the music mix is annoying) but has a fluffy short story instead of the long soapy drama in the main plot.

Ice actor isn't completely naked. You can see glimpses of his shorts when you pause for the tattoos.

As for KinnPorsche: Kinn x Porsche first time is fully nude, the pool sex is fully nude and Vegas x Pete as well.
(non of the actors are completely naked even if it looks like. They still have something to cover, which we don't see)

Yep, he's lowkey using Tee. He might not be fully aware of it / he tries to have feelings for Tee but his attraction to Nine is stronger, even if he denies it (tbh Dao is weak af in that regard lol.....). Bu that's the plot of this show. Them messing up and trying to get out of it somehow.

oh wait, I forgot about the facebook relationship thing for the revenge.

Dao only agreed to sort of dating / have an affair with Tee but not to be his boyfriend again (for now) and always asked for more time to think about it. Also it wasn't a revenge on Nine, Dao is lying to himself thinking he could fall in love with Tee again and forget Nine because the situation with Nine is more complicated and he hurt him for ghosting him.
