Idk I see a lot more openness and acceptance and just more shows in general with older female younger males with the opposite being true for older male younger women. Though I do mainly watch Kdrama which is full of older women younger male and have only seen a few Jdrama so this is just based off what I have seen.
Personally I dont care and I like these kind of dramas, both the older males and older women. I think in general in real life its less of a big deal if its an older woman (see all these news stories of older females & teachers getting busted doing a lot worse compared to older males & teachers who get worse reactions and punishments for doing less.) Its generally seen as more creepy and gross.
That being said, its surprising to me that this drama is getting the reaction it is because its not a 25 year old male teacher with a 14 year old female student which is how I would expect people to react but here we are with the female teacher and male student. Maybe Japan is just different. I dont know. I assume the main issue is not the age gap of 11 years but the actual ages. A 60 year old with a 49 year old is not a big a deal as a 20 year old with a 9 year old. Both 11 years but in one case its a 9 year old. Just apply that to here, the person male or female doesnt matter, but they are still 14 (the character anyway) The 9 and 14 year old are not mature enough to deal with such an age gap while the 49 year old is. Also its not double or almost double the age of the younger one in the 49 year old persons case.
It doesnt bother me though with this drama. Its fake. But doesnt mean I would not be weirded out if it was a 9 year old boy instead with a 20 year old women though that too would be fake.
I do have my biases though. I think its less gross if its an older woman with a younger male than an older male with a younger female. Both are fine but I am less tolerable with the ages and gaps if its an older male and younger female.
I will say this however, reading the description of the drama in question, it doesnt seem like its 100% a romantic type of relationship or anything sexual but regardless of that, it takes place over several years so if there is anything like that it very well could be when he is around 17 or 18 or even more. She would be 28 or 29 but at least he is an adult or legal age. In the USA anyway. At the very least he would be a lot more mature than a 14 year old.
Sexual content and erotic tags? Lol this is one of those softcore movie porn vids right? I have never seen those tags before. I thought this was a wholesome drama DX
I finished both movies last night and this morning. I thought it was average and would have made a better drama. Would have had a lot more time to the character stories and world building and exploring. A Korean Odyssey but not crap and actually good and interesting. Movies were just ok though.
In the drama in case anyone is curious, Ae Sin is 28 and Eugene in 40, there is a 12 year difference in the drama. Though since I saw this a while ago I think Ae Sin might be 26 and Eugene is 38. Then there is the later time skips in the drama but point is in the bulk of the drama I think here age was 26/28 and his was 38/40
They announced their birthdays in one of the episodes and I did the math with the current years the drama was set in. I just forgot the specifics.
Now a rant about ratings: Mr. Sunshine should have a higher numerical rating. The run of the mill, forgettable…
I think most people look at it like a school grade. Under 60 is an F under 70 is a D and those are considered failing and terrible respectively so a 6/10 and 7/10 seem like the drama sucks a lot when really it just means average and above average, both are which are actually fine. So 8 becomes the new average and 9 the new above average and 10 is"I liked it a lot" Also people fangirl a lot and give 10/10 when a drama begins airing or even before it airs. Annoying.
I have seen a lot of dramas that are 8+ that are very mediocre.
Out of 165 dramas this is my first 10/10 and this isnt even really the type of drama I am typically into but wow this was amazing. Very beautiful. All the characters and acting were superb. Not much to say but it was amazing. From good guys to bad guys to the little guys. A pleasure to watch. Blows the rest of the stuff I have seen out of the water, I need to reconsider re-rating a lot of my dramas lol. The politics, history, and world were all enjoyable. Main leads romance was excellent too. I know some people had issue with it for age but you suck.
My drama of the year hands down and Ae Shin and Eugene are couple of the year. Hina Kudo and Ae Shin get most bad ass woman of the year awards too. Loved them both especially Hina Kudo.
EDIT
The bromance between the 3 main male leads was excellent and slave hunter turned pawnshop duo and Eugenes interpreter were the best. Honestly there were so many great things.
I really liked her character in Mr Sunshine. No idea who she is, little info on her as well but I hope she is in more future works. Would like to see more.
First time I saw Kim Tae Ri in anyway, which is funny since she is mentioned a lot in other dramas for being very pretty and I agree with it but she is also a very skilled actress. I loved her in Mr Sunshine. Impeccable. I wish she was in more projects. Hope to see more.
