I was honesty really astonished and shocked to see that Cheng Yi fans and Yuan Bingyan fans in China are now sworn…
I truly hope Cheng Yi fans in China are not a bunch of crazies. I have seen what happened with Xiao Zhan because of his fans. Would not want the same fate to befall Cheng Yi.
So far I see that his fans only fussing about his acting skill. So however crazy it is currently, should still be endurable. As far as I know, this fan war started because the drama add on scenes that made the ML shine more and dumbing down the FL. Stupid excuse in my opinion. The drama script gave both leads chance to shine. It is only a matter who can capitalize better.
One actress in C-entertainment that impressed me recently is the one acted as Ruyi in Ruyi Love in Royal Palace.
I am actually annoyed when people tend to favor the ML than FL and then blamed us women as the audiences for the unfairness. While I am agree some younger fans will be more crazy on ML, does not mean we women could not appreciate a FL.
It is just most of the time, those FL just underperformed. What should we do then .....
I have limited knowledge on actresses in C-entertainment business. But by what I have seen through dramas watching these years, no one in the current crops of actress (in the right age) that has enough ability to pull of a prefect He Lan Ming Yu.
Sometimes I wonder just why it is so difficult to have good actress nowadays. Most of them strike me as too wooden and too much caring about looking pretty on screen.
I have high hope for Meng Xin Chang An. In my opinion Zhang Yu Xi was a better actress than Yuan Bing Yuan. Zhang Yu Xi acting in Ling Long traumatic scenes was far more believable than that of Yuan Bing Yuan in episode 59 (sorry, but I actually disappointed in Yuan Bing Yuan acting in Si Feng death scene).
I have no problem of another drama with sad ending for him as long as it is done well. I will see all of these depressing drama as preparation for him to tackle his role in Broken Clouds (if he really casted for that). By his temperament and looks, I guess he will get role as Wu Yu in that drama. And that is a complex and heavy character.
It will be so disappointing if this drama ended in failure. I watched a couple of episode of the original starting from ML death. The acting from both ML and FL didn't impress me at all. Too flat and robotic. FL love toward ML could not be felt at all and I actually ended up hated the FL just because of that couple of episodes ....
That's why I have quite a high hope of this remake in the beginning. Better acting, better script ........
Spot on. Eps 1-10 especially moved too fast with too many elements condensed into them. The chemistry between…
In this drama, FL acting skill is crucial. CP chemistry aside, I feel the FL failed to show her true feeling toward the King. I wish she showed some reservation toward the King. Polite smile here and there but no tenderness. Sigh ....
Different with L&R where Cheng Yi acting sometimes make Yuan Bing Yuan looked inadequate, here both lead are more or less equal in my opinion. Sarah Zhao is great in emotional scenes, too. In episode 11 when both of them finally met each other after the marriage, both of them showed equal pain.
Shortly, both are good in emotional scenes but both failed in showing aura of Forbidden Romance. But because of script, FL inadequacy is exposed more currently. Cheng Yi will be challenged later after the King died, I think.
Despite the bad ending and depression, I am happy that he took on this role. This is a role that could truly teach him to act better in the future. Glad that he was brave enough to take the challenge.
Also, agreed with you about Cheng Yi acting. He was not as good here as he was in L&R, especially in showing affection scene. In L&R, he also more adept in showing inner pain despite acting as some unfeeling Demon Lord. Here, his Cheng Xu was not yet perfect. Well, we are still early in the drama though. Perhaps we will see more of him in the late episodes.
I have high hopes for his future dramas after L&R. If he can improve so much from The Promise of Chang An to L&R, then he should have improve more in his future works.
This drama suffers from the lack of CP builds up. We should have at least 10 episodes full of their relationship building instead of sending of Cheng Xu to war in what? Episode 6? ....
Looking at this, I cannot really fault the actor/actress to no be able to give us the right chemistry. Ming Yu has more interaction with the King compared with Cheng Xu ...... Judging from the script, Ming Yu character development is actually interesting:
Girl in love - marrying the man she does not love to protect someone - told herself to move on - realizing that she could not move on - realizing that it is only Cheng Xu that really think of her (episode 18) - ------My guess in the future --------- perhaps will put some distance to King finally - cannot lie to herself anymore that she indeed still love Cheng Xu - King found out their forbidden love - still hold on to her heart - become a mother - start to prioritize son over lover - sacrifice the lover to protect the son - pain for a lifetime - hold herself together for the last time to protect their country.
If the actress could capitalize, this will be her golden chance. But, so far, I could not see that she could do it. Too chummy with the King without any restrain in episode 12-17
Forbidden Love has its own allure I say. No love scene after girlfriend become sister in law is logical. But why we could not have more lovey dovey in the beginning is beyond me. It will help establish the CP more. By now, it is difficult for me to really cheering the lead, even more so when Cheng Xu got married and getting all this tender moment with Yu Ying.
Well perhaps this was the time when Cheng Yi learnt on how to differentiate affection. In L&R you can tell even though Si Feng cared for Xiao Yin Hua, it was different from the way he cared for Xuan Ji. In regard to Xiao Yin Hua, I can feel that it was like he was talking to his beloved little sister. While with Xuan Ji, it was with passion.
Since this drama was shoot before L&R, perhaps his acting was still in polishing state by then. Hmmm, I am really looking forward to Meng Xing Chang An
Just finished watching until episode 18. I am so late in discussion .... Will try to start watching by Friday night next week so that I can come here early to discuss with all of you.
The story was not as depressing as episode 9-11 in my opinion. The love in this drama is Forbidden Love anyway so we should not expect a usual romance here. I have read people commenting about the lead chemistry which I tend to agree here. I felt uncomfortable watching. In this kind of Forbidden Love theme, I expect to see secret gesture, different smile, secret eye contact that said thousand words, etc. But in this drama I get nothing of sort ....
Forbidden Love has its own allure compared with normal romance. You can see a couple that separated by destiny but their love is so beautiful that will left the audience feels pain alongside with them. But, this drama failed to give me that pain. If this is a tragedy drama, then I expect to feel a knife stab into my heart. I don't know whose fault this is; the actor/actress, the director, or the script. Both Cheng Yi and Sarah Zhao failed in exuding different aura when they are in close vicinity. The looks Cheng Xu used to see Ming Yu is exactly the same as the one he used to see Yu Ying. Same goes for Ming Yu. The way she looked to the King is the same as the looks she used to see Cheng Xu.
I think this problem might be caused by the fast pace of the introduction arc. The lead early romance was so underdeveloped so that the actor and actress had not yet established some connection with each other. In summary my problem with this drama: 1. I understand that Cheng Xu felt guilty toward Yu Ying, but I hope that he was not that tender with her ..... (even though I think he will never so tender with her anymore now) 2. Ming Yu is too chummy with the King. The audiences did not need to be told (through the King words to Ming Yu) that the King did not have Ming Yu heart, we need to SEE it!! All those smile looks so sincere and full of care to me. 3. Not enough of war and politic play scenes. If you cannot give us an engaging love story, then at least give us a witty politic play. 4. The drama is too fast paced overall (which in my opinion is the core of all the problems). Character development feels forced.
I haven't watched this week episodes. Waiting until tomorrow to watch them in batch. Did the misery already started?Well,…
......Need to prepare my eyes to cry out by tomorrow then. This drama sounds and smells pain. No foreseeable respite until at least the King death, I think.
However, I really curious on how the FL react when the ML married someone else. Hmmmm ...... Will post my comment after I am done watching this week watch.
Its sure heavier plot, and there is no funny moment like L&R. And from spoiler they said its will be sad end :(
For Broken Clouds, as far as I know the novel has happy ending. I hope with his current popularity, the rumor is true and he really is casted on that drama and that drama is really would be produced ....
In this drama, you right. The ship has sailed without us .... I no longer has desire to see the leads lovey dovey. I just dread of how much the FL will hurt ML for her own version of "good".

The Untamed has a very good original material which in my opinion has part in making the adaptation so popular. The rumor is that Cheng Yi will partake in Broken Clouds 2 (adaptation of BL novel). Story wise, Broken Clouds is darker than The Untamed. I really wish he really casted on that drama. BL aside, the story has dark and complex character. I want to see him acting as such character.
I really hope him in Broken Clouds 2 is confirmed. BL aside (which no doubt will be dubbed as bromance anyway), the story is quite dark (based on novel spoiler I have read) and the character is complex. This is not a fluffy drama. You can take away the BL and still have plot heavy drama.
Will be very interested on how he portrays this kind of character.
I watched all the episodes released so far. Watching Cheng Yi alone here is enough for me to continue. His acting…
Yea, I am too also continuing to see his acting. Already could see myself ranting about female lead character sooner or later. But his acting should make it worthwhile.
The crying in that scenes was so powerful. There is a sense of helplessness in his acting, as if life has lost…
Sorry, the correct title is Xiaozhuang Mishi. Yes, it is what TPOC is remake of (the people said). I have never watched that drama before, I think even though this is a remake, we will see some different interpretation here.
This morning, I caught a little bit of part of when the ML choose to die to somehow relieved the FL problem with her son (dunno the detail). The acting was so ...... flat. So I am looking forward to this remake. Judging from the trailer, I can expect a heartwrenching moment from ML. Really cannot wait to see how Cheng Yi will emote. His Si Feng angst moment was so satisfying (in a painful way, hahaha). I hope get the same feeling here.
Episode 9-11 certainly already surpassed his Si Feng in angst moment, I said. Si Feng was never that heartbroken.....

Unlike some people wish, I actually prefer him to act in heavy drama than in rom com (historical or modern). His acting skill is very good and this kind of skill could only shine brightly in a drama with real plot and characterization.
Xiao Cheng Xu for sure is more difficult to play than Yu Si Feng, in my opinion. Here, he should show love, anger, pain in one occasion. I have watched few minutes of Xiao Zhang Mi Shi, I find the acting is lacking from both leads. Hope I will see different interpretation here.
When will episode 13 going to realised? Can't wait for more. I already become Cheng ye's fan after L&R watching…
Episode 13 should be up by Thursday. Unlike L&R, for this one I am planning on watching in bulk every weekend. Don't want to be depressed during work day, hahahaha.
Yes, I am too become his fan in L&R. I am a lover of angst drama. Sad ending is also fine as long as it is truly sad and drive a knife to your heart (ala Bu Bu Jing Xin) instead of just unsatisfying ending. However, not many actor/actress out there that could act their heart out and really touch you. Moreover, unfortunately these days so many idol drama which cast people who has less acting skill.
Cheng Yi is a very nice surprise for me in L&R. Only familiar with him in The Lost Tomb 2 which did nothing to showcase his acting skill. This drama is plot heavy and if he can capitalize this, it will increase his value in the inner entertainment world. Producer and Director should recognize him more then.
