I agree with you that Yang Chao Yue acting skill is not at the level warranted her FL position (no matter what drama level that is). I am not saying that she is not improving. I can see that she does improve, but she should do that improvement not at the cost of FL performance. Regarding this, you cannot really blame the cnetz that already loss hope on her.

The popularity of this drama in china seems to be very bad. Kind of flop, even worse than The Legend of Anle (which was crucified due to bad acting from FL and the plot itself) judging by how many people discussing this drama on douban.

Actually, at first I didn't want to watch this drama even though I am a sucker for xianxia. And the main reason is Yang Chao Yue. Kind of getting heart attack watching her in Dance of the Phoenix back then. Chong Zi, only looking on clips and not impressed with her acting. I am very much agree with you about her lacking in emotional department. I felt this the most strongly in the 3rd life (Shenling sect arc). Her expression when Chu Kong died was a too stiff for someone naive in love. I can see her improvement in acting skill compared with her previous drama, but unfortunately too slow and too late to reverse public opinion in short time.

Right now, the only thing that keep me going in this drama is the plot and Ding Yu Xi. His acting here surprising me. I only know him in Romance of Tiger and Rose. Here, his acting skill really has improved a lot! Especially during Chu Kong tsundere moment, his acting is very very good. It seems his whole body language exudes cuteness, hahahaha. I hope he will continue improve his craft.

Problem with Jincheng in my opinion is not rooted on the lack of communication but because deep in his heart, his children is the most important. It is selfishness at the very core.

I was so angry watching last night episodes. Even though I could understand his plight but it did not absolve him from guilt. He paid for that and even though his children somehow got healthy body thanks to his deceit, they also paid with living 30,000 years in pain. And the relationship between Jin Lian and Jin Luo also became so bad until they could literally kill each other.

This kind of people can also be found in reality. Selfish people who thinks "as long as me and my family is safe, the other can go to hell". This Jincheng character really touched my bottom line. I always hate it when people try to guilt trip me to be more understanding their bad conduct due to some "special needs". I can understand but I can never tolerate and accept.

Also, honestly I was also annoyed at Cang Hai. She knew exactly what Chu Kong needed to pay everytime he healed others. But, she still let him healed Jin Lian and Jin Luo without said anything to Jin Cheng. If, the debacle with Ming Yue and Hao Xuan did not happen, and this event was let out, there would be a line of people asking for Chu Kong help. And Cang Hai as empress in the end would not be able to resist her people plight. Because if she refused to let Chu Kong help, then surely all those selfish people will doom her as selfish.

I want to know this, too. The instrumental background (mainly and rendition of the OST by Faye and Liu Yuning) is very amazing. I hope after the drama ends, they will release a complete BGM by then.

I want to watch costume drama where ML and FL engaging in two way arrow without anyone come in between. So this drama is rather refreshing and relieving that way.

In my opinion, after Li Su Su went back to the past and become Ye Xi Wu, then Ye Xi Wu should be different from previous Ye Xi Wu and had trait of Li Su Su. Thus, these two character should not be so divided since the soul was the same. I agree the costume was very beautiful, which made my regret even worse ....

For Cheng Yi drama, I think if it is romance drama, it is important to be paired with actress that can have capability to play against him. If not, the drama will feel disjointed and you will end up questioning who loves more.
