I've only watched up to episode 14 so far but honestly
I still don't understand the mum's deal, at first I thought that she cheated on FLs dad and got pregnant with another man and had Zheng You'an, then we learn that she got remarried after being widowed? which flashback timeline based doesn't really fit since we only see her in the FLs life up until she's still in primary school, but not when she gets to middle school or high school, then we find out she's Zheng You'an's step-mum but she literally abandoned her own daughter for another woman's child... also the ages then seem to not match up either, as mum says she watched FMY, YA and ZYA grow up, but if she got married after being widowed then the kids would have to be teenagers since I don't think her father passed away until she was late teens to even just hitting 20, its just so confusing, it's so choppy
I was wondering why she didn't seem to go to uni in the opening, she missed the exam, but omg the timing couldn't be worse!! especially since Cao Xin just became provincial champion but that sore loser Zhou Xuanyu just ruined his future, there better be retribution for this! I also seriously hope Mama Qi doesn't blame Cao Si for this injury, it was really not her fault at all... urgh I feel like the upcoming episodes are gonna be brutal
Thank God, I wasn't the only one wondering about how the eldest siblings doesn't know the gender of their younger…
yeah exactly they could've raised all 4 together without the switch, it was a weird decision especially since Cao family has more money so they should be more focused on Qi Shi's medical support but they took a son instead, I don't really agree with it at all
i'm really enjoying this drama but one thing that has been bugging me is about Cao Si and Qi Zhi, they were both around 4 years old when their respective siblings were born, and ik that is a young age, but wouldn't a 4 year old know if they had a younger brother or a younger sister? or maybe the adults brainwashed them to think that each family has 1 boy and 1 girl, but i feel the most bad for all 4 siblings, stuck between the adults and not even telling the 2 current adults (21 y/o) the truth, i feel like they have the right to know and then getting in the way of their adorable relationship too, i feel Mama Qi and Papa Cao reacted way too harshly and insenstively to that, and really hurt both their children, especially since earlier Mama Qi was saying how she considers Cao Si like her own daughter, and then Cao Xin and Qi Shi have no clue that they have a real brother and real sister respectively, and that is unfair to them as well, idk how long it will take for the 4 siblings to find out the truth but I feel like the fallout is going to be bad, plus when I was watching the OP I saw that it looked like Cao Xin succeeded and got into a good uni but for some reason Qi Shi is not in that picture and you see a scene of them crossing the street with Cao Xin in a business suit and Qi Shi lugging luggage with her, i hope i am misinterpreting the opening but i don't think they will end up in the same university or even if Qi Shi goes to uni, which seems really weird.
I think I should really just go read the novel since this wait is low-key killing me but also at the same time I want to watch the next episodes, urgh the dilemma
even though it's a korean drama, I hope that they stick to the european style ball-gowns and not change it to the traditional hanbok style that they did with The First Night With the Duke(TFNWTD), like the story is good, but as the source is set in that period, why can't they also dress like that too?
seriously after watching episode 20 I'm like Li Mao has already proven that he is not fit to be the ruler, plus he has no legitimate claim to the throne since he is a bastard child of his mother's affair with Grand Tutor Xie, and GT Xie wants his own son on the throne so they can have absolute power, I hope they're able to find a cure for the Emperor so he can live a bit longer, and maybe get married and have at least an heir, since XWY doesn't want that throne, Jiayu also does not want to be Empress but there is no one left of the Li bloodline that can inherit the throne, and yeah the dynasty can change names, but it must not be ruled by the ones with Xie blood running through their veins
also with Jiayu letting Lejun go to marry the Eagle King, how much can you even trust that she would be a spy and not turn on you the moment she gets there, I had high hopes for these two siblings but they let Jiayu down, let Wuyi down and let everyone else down
as a standalone it was decent, but it did end up a bit lacking, I've read the first 100 or so chapter of the novel and was quite disappointed how they changed the whole plot for the drama, i really wanted to see her cousins in the drama especially her oldest cousin since they had such a great sibling relationship, which i guess in a way Feibai covered some of it in the drama but only barely.
there's really no prior relationship between MJL and YL in the novel, in fact the novel does start with him breaking off his engagement to her and getting engaged to YY instead but honestly that's cause he was already sneaking around with YY for a year before things officially got called off, YL had no interest in MJL and didn't care about marrying him at all, but was quite happy with MXY even though they'd never met. There's a lot more adventure in the novel, with YL even disguising herself as young master and travelling to Changbei to find her cousin who went missing as well as find a cure for MXY poisoning (since in the novel he was not only crippled but poisoned which caused him severe pain every winter), i think the actor choice was good but I'd love to see YL as more like the novel YL with insane combat skills, and leading the Mo Family Army as the Crown Princess
as for the drama itself, I think BL did a really good job portraying YL's illness and her switching between lucid and hallucinating was quite impressive, but I think I was expecting a bit more
final thoughts, good casting but scriptwriting let it down majorly
fashion and makeup 10/10 CGI 10/10 Story 9/10 cast 100/10 - they each played their roles (multiple roles as well) so brilliantly I just loved how multi-faceted each character was! romance was great, sisterhood was great and bromance was great too, loved this series a lot! definitely recommend watching
I still see a lot of hate towards the ML here and on other platforms. I guess empathy works differently for people.…
very well said, I stopped reading comments because if how mean people were being for no reason. yes I called MXY an idiot myself but dude was in a lot of pain then and thought her feelings to him were only out of guilt and debt, makes sense for him to lash out tbh as he's also been pretty emotionally upset over the last 8 years too
not cheating cause a concubine is someone who married in but at a lower status then a wife. your married but at the same time your kids aren't legitimate because they're not from the main wife, or secondary wife which she might have been
it seems that MXY is finally finding out about her hallucinations and how YL fully believes that QS is still with her. we know that her senior has also noticed this but he's kinda going with it. tbh I kinda want feibai and mxy to meet properly (not just disguised as a doctor) so they can exchange notes and try to help Ye Li
