coming back to this after reading the novel, it is a very different story, like completely different plot, however as a standalone drama it was quite good, and I can see why they made the changes they did however parts of the novel I'd have loved to see in the drama
it wasn't as detailed as the au from the novel but I appreciated it a lot. I'm glad they included it although I reckon they could've used an entire episode to tell the au story properly
I'm really glad they put in the AU at the end. although I'd have loved it more if they actually showed more of their time growing up together, however it's still a satisfactory ending.
What I liked about the adaptation is that they gave Changyu her own men, whereas in the novel the Pig Slaughtering Gang did not exist.
However I did find it interesting how they combined Li Huai'an's character with Zheng Wenchang from the novel, it made me curious to see how they would end things for him, if they went the Wenchang's ending or Huai'an's ending. Although they didn't show it i guess they chose Huai'an's ending for the drama.
Still solid drama. definitely recommend reading the novel. it's a lot more spicy too ahahah 🤭
What's with the 'ending scene' after Minister Li goes into exile/retirement, the massacre scene and then FCY's…
oh the first part was a dream and the second was reality. when we saw all the townsfolk that was Changyu's imagination and deepest wish, whereas the ending with the Zhao couple and the pig slaughtering squad was the reality
i was reading the novel for this and realised it was so vastly different, in fact, at least where I am in the novel, Li Peiyi and Xiao Huaijin don't exist, in fact none of the drama characters seem to be from the novel, i wonder why that is? or have I just been reading the wrong novel with the exact same title? it is interesting though, but for the novel readers is this the correct adaptation?
Because of the prolonged poisoning, Xiahou Dan passes first, surrounded by his loved ones, which is so different…
i was legit going to post this exact thing the other day after I finished watching but I fell asleep lol, so thank you! It's nice when strangers are on the same wavelength. I really wished they had kept the original ending in the drama, could've easily made it into an extra episode
Finished it and I love how its pretty faithful yo the book. The ending is slightly different but happy nonetheless. They chose the perfect cast for this couple, loved every bit of it
any similar style recommendations where the rich heir starts working from lowest position/hides their identity
Shine on Me is quite similar in the sense that the FL is rich and her father is a major shareholder in the company she works for but no one knows - difference is that ML is also rich so it's nice seeing that dynamic instead of one being rich and the other being not as well off
hmm that's definitely a wish gone wrong, it's gotta suck majorly that he spent 9 years working his ass off to become a top striker but a wayward wish takes it all away
I hope he's able to get back what he lost, like yeah sure he kinda stole his friend's fate but now it'll be up to the friend to see how he deals with it since he knows that it's not his effort that put him in this position
also i hope she remains a gumiho, that would be more fun
I kinda wish the banquet and shares reveal was done like in the novel, like at the banquet XG is like to her uncle to go up to YS and introduce her and she says "I"m interested in you, date me" or something along those lines, but it would've been funny as.
as for the shares part, there is a lunch at the Sheng family mansion in with XG is invited as well and YS gets the shares that way, while also putting his uncles in their place, such a golden scene, pity they didn't include it.
as for the very end of 27, I don't think XG's dad is inherently bad, he's just blinded by the wrong woman, and I really hope that he finds out her true nature too, cause her type is toxic trash, her daughter too, and if he wants to get on better terms with XG then he needs to burn that trash out of his life, and even somehow end things with bokai
love the scenes between YS and XG, i cant wait to see more
just finished ep 17 I gotta say that the SML is kinda ridiculous, he gets upset on his own, misunderstands on his own, also he was narcisstic to think that she would wait for him and keep pursuing him after he rejected her the first time, maybe she would've, but that whole incident with Ye Rong and the accusations there without him actually investigating himself and getting upset about it, honestly destroyed all chances he had, even with the thesis thing he was never clear, never clarified his relationship with Ye Rong, and let Ye Rong keep giving her the wrong impression, but also he didn't go directly to the FL for clarification about anything, just get's hurt and upset himself and maybe he regrets his words and actions, but too little too late, however I do want him to honestly talk to her one time, properly so they can clear the air and honestly both get closure and move on. His colleague seems like a nice girl, maybe she would be good for him, but as of now he needs to really figure things out, be honest and let Xiguang reject him so they can move on
I'm up to episode 6 and am enjoying it a lot so far, I started watching simply cause it's adapted from a Gu Man novel and I love her works. So far it's living up to my standard
After watching the drama, and reading the drama. I totally agree with you. Xiao Jue and He yan were protrayed…
to point 3, I was really looking forward to the final battles since I really enjoyed how well it was written in the drama, but we barely got to see any of that, if we had more episodes it would've been perfect to encapsulate all the battles, like He Yan's strategies, and Lin (well in this case Cheng Lisu) treating the plague victims in the city Yan He had gone to (blanking on the names of the 4 cities in the novel since the drama took them to different ones), it would've really showed more of what war really is, and given more depth to the characters too
with the whole reincarnation ban, there were still a lot of ways they could've adapted parts of the novel so they still fit with the drama's plot.
Chu Zhao was disappointing, they really made him into such a pathetic character in the end, I did not much like him in the novel, but he was much better written and wasn't a complete mess
and this is just a personal wish, but I wish they had shown us how Yan He and Chengxiu met and fell in love, I really liked that flashback in the novel, if we had more episodes we might've even seen that
definitely would've been better if more of the intense scenes from the novel were captured, however it was pretty good over all having Cheng Lei and Zhou Ye as the leads really did bring Xiao Jue and He Yan to life, and they had excellent chemistry

just how I feel
So far it's living up to my standard
