ridiculous

This drama was already stretching my patience with a 'love story' that is neither cute, nor sizzling, nor even entertaining after episode1.

This episode however, managed to hurt my brain in a way that is not even unintentionally funny anymore.

So, we are in this fantasy Urk - supposedly in the Balcan area - where people speak Russian, Arab, broken English, a lot of Korean everywhere while happily showing Greek signs. We have no idea whatsoever what this country's problem might be, since we are told it's war-torn but our heroes just go around eating in pretty restaurants with pretty plates and picturesque views on a sea so blue it almost hurts my eyes.

In a village we have a woman who speaks arab and dresses accordingly and in town we have a bar tender who comes directly from the Coyote Ugly.

We haven't had the slightest glimpse of local people living in some distress except for kids licking metal debris - in Jupiter's name, why should they?????? A village situated a six hour-walk away is immediately recognized by Superman Shi Jin thanks to a child's drawing of a tree under the sun. Shi Jin must have trained in the Australian bush with the Aborigins chanting their way through it.

Dialogues are as deep as a mud puddle, Shi-Jin and his lady spend 80% of their times making 'cute' jokes on how beautiful they are, only here and there inserting a hint about the dire situation they are facing - they must be as confused as I am as to where the heck they are. Mo Yeon only asks highly intelligent questions like 'why do you do this?' and 'where are you going?', as though it took a specialized degree to understand that a soldier might risk his life or - heaven forbid! - obey an order.

She's a doctor who's per definition on call for whatever medical emergency, yet she doesn't understand the basics of military emergencies and pouts over interrupted dates.

And don't get me started on the dialogues between the bad guys and the good ones. They make me reconsider the whole Fast and the Furious saga.

And then we have the icing on the cake of this episode: the car crash!

I get it this is a drama, but I wasn't aware we were watching an episode of the X-men. How on earth are two people coming out alive let alone unscathed after a jump that high from a cliff into the water? With one airbag, really?

Gosh, my head hurts badly. If possible, my ears are subjected to and even worse torture thanks to an ost that is trying to tell a completely different story from the one shown. It's loud and completely off in terms of timing and pathos.

I am always attentive to details, they can turn a mediocre thing into something special. Here however, we have a ton of glaringly stupid inconsistencies I can't nor want to condone. They have spent a huge amount of money to film this, they could at least study their lesson a little.

I'm giving this show one more episode to take a direction, whatever that is, after which I'm abandoning this ship(wreck).

may I sniff his neck too?

For the life of me, this must be the silliest thing I've ever watched and possibly the silliest in the whole known universe, but you'd have to use a crane to unglue me from the screen.

I'm laughing so hard my neighbours are worried.

The bed scene is priceless, what with her jumping wildly on him while equally wildly protesting. Rofl

And I would be lying if I denied I'd love to sniff Renn's neck too. :P

Stylish

I like the fusion of styles here. The photography is different from the past to the present, hence conferring the two ages a completely different feel. I particularly appreciate some sepia scenes, which make them look like an aged picture.

And towards the characters it's immediate liking. She has her head in the clouds, but isn't dumb, or whiny. He's smart and sober, perfectly equipped to deal with such a surreal situation.

The evil characters are theatrical, clear cut, so that one can completely suspend empathy and enjoy whatever the fate has in store for them.

I'm currently studying fear...

I too think the WOC was dragged a little, but I personally like the setting - I love military oriented films/dramas - so that wasn't a problem for me.

The restroom incident served the purpose of showing us one of Club M moles: the american guy who insisted on having the king's official apology. This is the kind of requests John Meyer would do: humiliate before killing. And he was disappointed when his own officers accepted Kang Seok's instead.

They sure wasted a lot of time planning their strategy, giving the Americans plenty of time to ambush. I wrote elsewhere that the whole "asians are made different" speech made me cringe. But unfortunately it's very realistic (I'm not referring to americans now, they just symbolize westeners in general).

I can't wait to see how they are going to get out of that island with the us key, because they will, I have no fear.

Jae Ha and Kang Ah's bond is put to the test once more. I expect more heartbreak, but the masochist in me likes this: it makes the make up all the more satisfying.

I watched the episode raw and didn't read any recaps, so I can't truly comment on Shi Kyung's meeting with Bung Gu, but I have no doubt in my mind our Shi Kyung's a hero in his own right. He's so loyal to his king, his princess and his values, he would sooner sacrifice his father or himself before consorting with any of them. I prey the writers are not friends with the one who wrote City Hunter. I couldn't digest if they got rid of Shi Kyung like they did with the prosecutor.

As hateful as she is, I like how the character of Bon Bon is portrayed. It's a very well written character, she truly gives me the creeps.

Bung Gu's right hand man, on the other hand, is horrid. What's that frown he constantly has on his face? Ugh.

unconvinced

I expected to laugh more and be a little more scared. In fact, I watched the episode with a smile, enjoyed it to a certain extent but neither laughed out loud nor did I jump.

First of all, if our heroine has been seeing ghosts for a while now, why is she still so frightened? She herself said "they can't do anything to you, but they are here". One would think she got accustomed - at least a little - by now.

The first scene was very well done, quite scary too. It made me think she just recently discovered her ability to see death people, but it turns out the situation has been going on for years, and she's been delivering weird messages for a while.

I get she's frustrated, exhausted and weary, but so scared that she runs back to her room? With garlic and a cross, no less. Someone please explain to her the difference between vampires and ghosts.

The actress is doing a very good job though.

As for So Ji Sub... this is my first time seeing him act and I'm not impressed. Is he going to grace us with some kind of facial expression or do we have to content ourselves with the only one seen here: the frowning?

I also wish I could ruffle his hair. I know the bowl hairdo is all the rage now in Korea, but admittedly it's not for everyone.

I have a few reservations regarding the pace too. While I appreciate to be thrust into the story with some level of speed, I'm not happy to see the plot disclosing in front of my eyes all in the 1st episode. I'm left with not much mystery or expectations.

I imagine the next episodes will deal with the ghosts requests on an episodic basis, while the main plot revolves around a skeptical guy converted by a ghostwhisperer.

I'll keep on watching, but I'm less thrilled than many seem to be.

I. LOVE. THIS.When a drama introduces…

I. LOVE. THIS.
When a drama introduces complex characters I kind of fall in love with at first sight, it's already a winner, in my book. These three women became addictive already on episode 1 and their heterogenerous backgrounds and approach to life make the ensamble a true pleasure to watch.
I love the different way each "avenger" is thrown into the picture and the exciting expectations it creates.
The black humour is on point, always revealing something deeper about them.
I also love the fact that the villains here look and behave like caricatures out of a Dickens's novel: they are a tool for the revenge plans to unfold, rather than important characters, which promises to make their downfall so satisfying!
Viva girls power!

Little did I know...

All this time I have been asking myself why was the drama set in 2010. It didn't make sense for a story which was not historical, and 2010 isn't even vintage!

I started getting a couple of hints when they fly over Fukushima on episode 8 and when they chose to have a time jump on episode 9.

Now I know, and I can't even begin to express what this is doing to my heart.

Not yet happy, they give us one of the most emotionally intense retirements ever, and a group of characters who in my mind aren't fictional anymore, but truly live there.

Fukushima

Wow.

After the emotions of last episode I find myself crying like a fountain. Really, what is this drama doing to me?

The lake they fly over in the cargo plane, the one Inaba saw with her father and forgot the name of, is Lake Inawashiro, in Fukushima.

The drama is set in 2010, so all the time I kept thinking: "they don't know yet, it hasn't happened yet". As if this was a real thing, not a drama.

The episode deserves a 10 for the incredibly touching semplicity with which the issue is raised.

surprisingly funny

I didn't think I would laugh watching this drama, but it's clear I was wrong. The characters are all slowly gaining in depth and I start liking them all.

I love the message of this second episode, something on the line: "it's useless to obstinately clung to past dreams when they are impossible to come true. Better find a new target to aim at and be just as passionate with it."

Love Sorai already. :D

Fast paced and engaging

I don't know why there aren't more people watching this drama. I suppose the setting isn't appealing to most. I like it though, it's different, and very interesting.

The cast is brilliant, so many faces I know and love.

If this first episode is anything to go by, I'll be hooked in no time. Plus, it promises to be intense on the romantic side too.

I'm sold.

Japanese de Laclos?

Here's my theory: Hiroto and Chiyoko are not blood related, but children of two people who remarried. So Hiroto is biological son of the husband and Chiyoko the biological daughter of the wife. They are step siblings by marriage.

And their tense relationship is very reminiscent of Cruel Intentions and the whole de Laclos dynamic.

If this keeps on, we should expect Hiroto truly falling for Sakura and the envious step sister revealing her the plot.

Intriguing.

The Orange and the violin

This is my third watch of Orange Days. A drama which doesn't rely on twists or suspense, can be viewed time and again.

Whenever you feel like immersing in the life of a group of young people who could be us all, you should give this one a try.

Great first episode, which sets the pace of the whole show beautifully and introduces a sassy, intelligent and charming female lead.

How much more adorable can Tae Kang become?

I'd never thought I could grow so attached to Tae Kang's character when I first started this drama. He was always cute to watch, but just like a pretty, funny puppy. He's growing fast and in such an adorable way, I can very well empathise with Ji An.

I love that this script is so well done the viewer develops feeling at the same pace as Ji An. The drama revolves around her and her choiches, and one can recognize a well written character when the viewer is feeling what the character feels.

I'm sad for Na Ri, who is very far from being an evil character - I like her a lot, actually - and will probably experience a heartbreak soon.

smart move and yet not so smart

I loved grandma's decision to disinherit her relatives and wish more rich people would do the same with their good for nothing families, but the way in which it was all delivered isn't the best of ideas towards Eun Sung.

As if the girl needed another reason to be unjustly hated by everyone.

This drama is full of twists and turn and very typical, but I must confess it gets pretty addictive, once the first episodes are over.

I sure want to see how these three shopaholics are going to fair. Not to mention that if Hwan is penniless, is pretty much useless as bf material in the eyes of greedy stepmother, who will probably order her daughter to seduce Manager Park's son. LOL

the most odious male...

... that ever sprang from a pen.

I wonder if the author was taking drugs while inventing the character of Hwan. Not even Lee Seung Gi's natural charm can atone for the character he plays here. I obviously know he's going to change, but I wonder why drama authors seem to believe the taming of a jerk were more satisfying for the viewer than a good guy finally getting a reward for his being good from the start.

This said, this episode marks for me the first, real improvement in the plot. All the characters are slowly gathering together on the same plot line, while they were like separate entities until now - quite confusing.

I am now curious to know what the whole living at grandmother's house scenario is going to create in terms of quarrels and banters.

The evil stepmother - who was introduced as such in the very first minutes of the drama - is strangely irritating me less than Hwan the Master Jerk, Hwan's petulant mother and - for now - Hwan's brat sister.

Seong-hee Baek is clearly up to more evil, I have no doubt, but she has just as evidently gone through hell (she mentioned her first husband beating her, among other things).
