When I watch W i felt exactly same. I thought how could be a drama incredible like this.... but after a few episodes…
That's why I love Nine (another one of the writer's works) much more than W. At least it's more logically consistent and has clear principles that are actually followed throughout the whole series. W, on the other hand, broke every single rule that was established just for the sake of plot twists. I have high expectations towards this new drama and I hope it doesn't make the same mistakes that W did.
Um I don't know what you're talking about, all good poetry is like that. Many often have more than 2 meanings…
Yes it's true that all languages have poetry. But for Chinese, the words hold so much philosophy and art in them that they don't disappear even in non-poetic writing. Chinese words are poetic not just in poetry, they are intrinsically poetic. It's hard to explain this to non-Chinese writers, but Chinese words usually come in pairs and it is possible for a pair of words to already have very deep meanings or metaphors in them and to completely understand the meanings we'd have to know the history of the words. This makes even Chinese people struggle when learning Chinese.
I'm a native Chinese speaker and we have Chinese Language as one of the subjects in our public exam. The passing rate of the subject is 50% and has the lowest passing rate among all subjects, including physics, chem, econ, history, etc. It's known as the hardest subject with the hardest exam papers ever.
I think this might just be my favourite article I've read on mydramalist so far; I absolutely ABSOLUTELY relished…
Aw thank you so much!! Your comment gives me a lot of strength to continue writing. Will definitely translate this when I write a Part 2 for this article :)
Wouldn't “Cool (涼涼)” translate as "sway..sway away" maybe? "Cool" sounds out of context...but I appreciate…
That's a good suggestion actually. People could interpret the meaning in different ways depending on their perspective and knowledge. The above was simply my own interpretation and others could have different views. Will consider your viewpoint if I happen to write another one of these.
As for "涼涼" I don't remember it having an alternate meaning of "sway". It usually means gloomy, disappointed, lonely. Used "cool" here cuz that's the literal meaning, and negative emotions like gloominess and loneliness make people feel cold so I guess that's how the word is being used here.
This reminds me of the time I was learning Sanskrit. I would be amazed how even splitting words differently could…
I certainly agree with your point that translating to English is a hassle. For languages where there are subtle changes in meanings according to the combination of words, it would be very difficult to find English words that can represent those subtle differences.
Guys I must have to say. I was really disappointed with the episode 1 but episode 2 was better and the ending…
I agree with you except for the part where they can drop after watching episode 2. I mean, 2 episodes don't tell much about a drama. Some dramas start off a bit slow and gradually get better. Maybe ppl should watch a few more episodes to see which direction the plot is going and then decide.
To be fair, 2 episodes really isn't enough for me to judge. I really love the screenwriter for her previous works, and in my honest opinion this one didn't start as good as her other works, but I'd still be looking forward to see how she might impress me this time. I don't really like Hyun Bin's character, but maybe he'll grow on me like in Secret Garden where he was an even worse douchebag. I never liked PSH's acting, but I still watched ALL of her works so she won't be a reason for me to drop this. I really like sci-fi fantasy dramas so there seems to be a high chance I'll like this if the plot stays good.
I have mixed views towards this drama. Rationally I don't feel much chemistry between the leads and there were many boring fillers that I had to fast forward. Even the enjoyable scenes were full of kdrama cliches. But for some reason I'm still kind of enjoying this and I hope it'll get better.
I don't mind age gaps, but YGS and KYJ don't have matching vibes. Something about them just doesn't go tgt. Ahn Hyo Seop might have been better with KYJ, but then YGS matches the role more, so I'm still ok with him as the ML. I can't really imagine Ahn doing equally as comedic as YGS, plus the CEO role is better off played by a more mature guy like YGS.
The drama that engaged me the most in the second half of the year. Props to everyone who took part in making this!! Perfect balance between comedy, mystery, thriller and family. Also the first time I actually gave a shit about side characters. They just shined. So Ji Sub as Kim Bon was such a great choice of cast, and Jung In Sun was so motherly here too. The villain Jin Yong Tae was cute and hilarious. This drama proves that baby-sitting and special agent scenes can go together haha. Awesome drama!
Reading the novel and enjoying it a lot. Really digging the master-disciple relationship and the comedy is spot on. Hope this drama version will be good too

I'm watching mostly for him now.
