What I love about this drama is that the cops are actually eating, not just relentlessly chasing criminals. Gu Yi Ran is such a foodie 😂 and I love that he finds a warm home in the cold Northeast Halan. Zheng Bei's family is so sweet and welcoming towards Yi Ran, and his co-workers are like a family, too.
Since it's set in 1997 with early tech, cases don't progress as fast as in modern crime dramas (e.g., surveillance cameras on the streets, phone tracking, etc. tho they have their own way of tracking voices). It has a raw, retro '90s industrial feel elevated by sharp action and clever twists. The performances of the actors are great, particularly Johnny Huang. His acting feels remarkably natural.
Despite its anti-drug focus, the show is also about everyday life: cooking, eating together, hanging out, and frankly, a lot of delicious food. It's nice to see a drama that takes its time and feels so real. Highly recommend.
Undoubtedly one of the best in terms of acting, casting, setting and cinematography.
But Li Bi's role as the main character felt weak in the end. The real culprit was exposed by Cheng Can. Li Bi only guessed a tiny hint (as Cheng Can mentioned), which isn't enough to justify him as the leader of the Peacekeeper Corps. He was basically absent during the reveal.
Gu Tao is in the wrong profession. He could've excelled in business-related fields if he weren't a drug dealer. On the other hand, ML is smart and detail-oriented. If he weren't a cop but Gu Tao's partner in business/subordinate, they would've dominated the market, lol.
Not all drug dealers are one-dimensional villains; they have their own backstories and are often shaped by their circumstances. That said, I'm by no means justifying his actions, as his trade destroys thousands of lives and families. But this character leaves you with complex emotions because he's kind and righteous, too.
It was heartwarming to see the ML save the little orphan boy, breaking the cycle before he could become another Gu Tao. Fang Han nails the portrayal of the drug addiction scene. It's an amazing drama.
Haixia has been through a lot since the first episode, so he deserves some rest now. It must be really tiring for him. I'm genuinely impressed by his cleverness as well as his empathetic nature. He has the real potential to become a director of Southern Archives. I love the storyline here. He left a good impression on me. If Haixia's story is written like this in the novel!
Zhang Hailou taught us the importance of thinking twice before taking action. Acting recklessly on impulse can make the consequences of a minor mistake far greater than expected. He learned that the hard way.
Both actors delivered brilliant performances; Ding Yu Xi gave his absolute best in this role. He made Haixia feel real in a way that just hit different.
To me, Haiqi, Haixia, and Hailou are the 'iron triangle' of the South. Together, they're formidable. Hoping to see them again. ❤️
This drama is so wholesome. Lan Jing Hui seems like a carefree troublemaker, but he's the most thoughtful one. He's loyal, funny, and dependable through difficult times. His influence is transformative. You can see how he transforms Ling Dong and Xiao Xiao Hua, especially.

Xia Qing Tian is cute and bubbly. At first, I thought she's gonna paired up with her deskmate they're cute together fighting like Tom&Jerry. But it's ok they don't have that much engagement later on, so it's not a big deal.
The drama is heavily BL coded. Aside from their interactions, there's an MDZS wallpaper in XXh's room, which feels like a deliberate hint. Can I say they're the modern version of LWJ and WWX !? Whether or not if you're into Bromance or BL, you're definitely gonna love it.
Watching censored or BL dramas disguised as bromance is really fun. You need to alert your sixth sense all the time to catch their small gestures so you can be sure it's a disguised BL. There's a difference between "bros being bros" and "bros being more than bros." You've to find it yourself. 😂

Xuan Ye's father is kind-hearted. He gave him moon bugs without knowing the connection between them before. But, when Xuan Ye reveals his past relation, he seems to understand him, yet there's this gap that can't be bridged. It's like Xuan Ye is from another world, and he let him go where he truly belongs. I'm not saying him that he should forcefully keep him there, but his tone suggested that if he left, it would be the best. Like he's saying, "Don't let your mother and brother know about this." Why? Is he afraid that Xuan Ye might hurt his family? So, when he saw the Taofu, it looked like he could fix it but hesitated. Probably, the past bonding is really gone. Only a gap between humans and demons exists. So, no matter how good a demon is, they can't coexist. And now that Taofu is broken for continuous use, Xuan Ye can't use it anymore to travel between two realms whenever he wants. Once he leaves this mortal realm, he has to wait for 12 years.
The whole tone shifts in the last few episodes. If the previous episodes were a dream, and in the last few episodes, we're waking up from that dream.
Now I'm thinking after ep 34 perspective, if I want a happy ending, what could it be like?! Relationships need a little compromise, but theirs would require sacrifice, especially for Xuan Ye. And I'm not biased, but I really don't want Xuan Ye to give up everything and live in the mortal realm, especially knowing his original father is dead and the realm needs him. Xuan Ye tied to his realm, while Ban Xia kept telling him to live with her. She never once mentioned living in his world. That feels a little self-centered. She has her family, her comfort, and all the things she wishes for in the mortal realm, which she doesn't want to leave, I think. While he has his duty. She's the first one to let him go. So, I think it ends kind of logically. They have love, but no path forward.
The Real Felicity sword probably played a part in how their relationship turned out like this. Remember when Xuan Ye said, " Perhaps we have already lost something very important without even realizing it." 💔
When Banxia took him to all their old places and watched snow together, I really thought she was going to take advantage of her parents' absence and run away with him. Who've thought she had another plan. What if she were a little brave like before and left with him? She lived with her parents for 19 years. What if she lived with him another 12 years and met her parents after that? Those 12 years are making of her, not breaking of her and teach her that home can be more than one place. How beautiful that would be.
Or, my version of ending 😂 in epi 34, both brothers kill that two-faced shishu. Then, they save the Carefree Realm by using moon bugs. Zi Kong becomes their lord. Xue Ying gets to use the Taofu to travel between the two realms whenever needed, with no time limits or drawbacks. After that, he marries Banxia, leaves Guangping City, opens a medicine shop, and they've children who are as powerful as their father and gentle & brave like their mother. Thanks to Zi Kong, the demons in line for another 12 years. Our ML is happy with his cute family, always on standby to hunt demons whenever duty calls. P.S . Was that a rabbit munching radishes at night that Banxia bought from the market? Never mind that rabbit is just like that. Turns out baby Banxia adopted him earlier. He's officially family now.
Or, make the director transmigrat and experience the ending firsthand. Then we'll talk about what they put us through.

Their bond grows through trust, shared struggle & sacrifice. It's not about typical romance but about understanding each other through shared hardship. All I can say is they've a mature, sweet relationship.
I loved the ending since they reunite. No sad ending. So, I'd say it's worth watching.

In my perspective, in ep 1, he got married and made a blood pact. I think that pact was bound to his "original blood essence." Then, in ep 30, he sacrificed his "essence blood" and succeeded in renewing it as part of the 5 trials to become human. So, once his blood was renewed, the pact broke, and he probably couldn't feel her pain anymore.
That moment when he was finally able to see color, that faint smile and his expressive eyes said more than words ever could. It was absolutely priceless. ❤️ He's so good at micro expressions.
I think Pond kinda looks like RJL.
What I admire most is how they resolve issues through honest conversation instead of stretching it over ten episodes of a "misunderstanding arc." Refreshing to see leads written with depth and maturity. The screenwriter also slipped modern-day issues into the story so smartly. Best Xianxia watch in a while. <3 I've rewatched episode 1 like a hundred times, especially the wedding scene. They look absolutely stunning together.

So even after he lost his memory this time, he would fall for her again. Heart will remember what the mind forgets.
