This remains an easy watch for me at episode 18, so I was kind of surprised when I read some comments on Min Hui.
I felt like Min Hui’s decision to reject Xin Qi is understandable. She was so ready to give their relationship a chance, but seeing Xin Qi doubt her at the beginning of that episode crashed that hope. Mistakes were made years ago and realizing that their trust for each other hasn’t been completely mended yet was very much valid. And I did not think that it was something to be frustrated about either because the two were able to calmly talk about everything out by that very same episode. She explained her side and showed him where her uneasiness was coming from. It was not a simple case of misunderstanding. Hence, this moment of separation does not feel forced (at least for me) at all.
Min Hui needs time for herself. Again, she was ready to give their relationship a second chance as soon as she woke up. She brought her emotional walls down that day, only to be unjustly accused of after. Remember: two, not just one, people insinuated that she was to blame for Su Tian’s death - when she was just a victim of that accident as well. To be doubted at, to be guilt tripped, and to be reminded of that trauma and heartbreak from five years ago - not a good feeling. No wonder she built her emotional walls back up. Xin Qi definitely needs to prove himself; to reassure her that the past is not a ticking time bomb to their relationship. She said it herself, she doesn’t want the wounds from five years ago to keep opening up again and again. That is beyond her. And that is not selfish.
I was, still am, and will forever be on Team Min Hui. Xin Qi HAS to step it up after the whole lawsuit fiasco.
Two years after Once We Get Married (2021) and I still get amazed with how natural and strong his chemistry with Wang Yuwen is in the Love You Give Me (2023).
STILL AMAZING CHEMISTRY BUT WITH EVEN BETTER ACTING AND CHARACTER DYNAMICS. The drunken confrontation, Wang Yuwen’s cries, the five-year pent up angst - this drama is better than I expected.
I loveeeed him as the Second Prince so much, he carried that role so damn good!

His character, though. 🥵
So messy and complicated and unfinished—I loved it.
