No the original story is not a harem per se. He marries the FL and is eventually manipulated into taking Mu Peiling as a concubine in essentially a clan political move. Ultimately, he never sleeps with her nor does he have a significant relationship with her. He is fully in love with and dedicated to his wife.

This. Han Li was just sitting around with a moronic self important grin on his face peering at the clouds in a 'right of passage I am now a man' haze.

He is meant to be average if not a bit below average, nothing special, though as he moves through advanced stages of cultivation he gets taller, slimmer, and better looking. And, as he moves into immortality he uses the standard cultivator freeze your face (from ever aging) 'card' which makes him look sustainably better looking. Takes a while.

Said it yesterday, Yang Yang goes from looking not handsome to kinda maybe handsome to blindingly handsome and then back again. And, the face angle after face angle is on point. Not sure I have ever seen so many of one actor in one drama?

They actually did use pictures of him in his much younger years. They used the 3D effect to splice it over and animate his face.

The visuals do not seem to line up with the information flow. First time in a long time I have to run the drama at 80% playback speed just to read and think.

The 154th episode of the donghua is due in the next few weeks. Seems like they could have many drama seasons.

They accidently removed the beasts' prostate gland. Not sure if that qualifies as cultivation more like ooops procreation.

Never was a big Yang Yang fan. However, IMO he was made for this role. He is playing the personification (so far) of the protagonist - the anti-hero hero Han Li. He is walking the walk and talking the talk and still playing the face card.

They cut out parts of the donghua story line without loosing the base story (so far). Its well done.

If you are sure you want to go down the mortal to immortal cultivation rabit hole? The fandom site is probably a good start (below). Be forwarned that its addictive and it may or may not mess up your drama experience (e.g., giving to much away too soon).
