Plot and premise are pretty much old school. It is typical ML is freaking OP god/immortal and need detached from love because his responsibility. It was unique at time but it is overused now. Those kind of break up is annoying when you are watching during airing but honestly it is not bad.
I expect more unique storyline and characters from Xianxia. They can do so much with it. But they always playing safe.
About Gu Jin, I feel his character development on Heaven Realm is lacking. I don't know what he is doing on Heaven Realm, in fact they never show Gu Jin on Heaven Realm unless it is involving Ayin. Thus it is makes Gu Jin life just resolve around Yin.
Every other drama had same premise but they build it up thus makes ML's dilema to break up FL understandable. There is no life changing experience or life threatening scenario that makes Gu Jin choose that path. Unless those Hong chou keep pestering him, there is no need Gu Jin to choose this way. Even Evil villain have nothing to do with ML and FL.

Yu Yu Hakusho is extremely condensed, I think that's so many problem with anime/manga live action adaptation. It depends too much on people understand a storyline of source material. If you watch it for what it is, you understand nothing.
I am kinda glad Saiunkoku adaptation is Cdrama. Japanese adaptation will never do it justice.

Every other parasol tree is inanimate object. About Tonghua, I guess he knew it . Ayin is supposed to be Qin's catasthrope. Hong Chou proposed to just dispose Ayin but Tonghua have another solution. My guess his solution is to have Ayin and Jin together as a lover thus they will burden the catasthrope together. But if he blew it that Ayin is Phoenix, their relationship will be not developed outside of master servant.
