I think you were mistake me. In ancient time , light source are from candle. It is warm color and provide strong one direction lightning. But so many Cdrama have studio setting that lit everything which makes everything looks dull or flat. It become more noticeable on fantasy drama, prolly they wanted capture every details on actor face and their costume. Or probably they are just too lazy because lightning setup is trick job.

I think you missunderstood a story. In previous life, she was so cunning and it killed her. On second life, she toned down that and understanding other people perspective. She overcome her cruelty , she realized she become cruel because of her bleak past and gradually forgiving other people. Her sole down fall because Yan Lin and she changed her ways. She still cunning but not cruel anymore.
