PRECIOUS SIBLINGHOOD | A Review from a Wuxia Noobie

Heads up, I usually skip out on wuxia genre dramas but I've been hearing so much hype about the drama that I just had to check it out! So it's no surprise that I also did not read the novel.

I know this was originally a BL story but I'm kinda glad it was adapted into a bromance/strong friendship story. The main reason being how I've always admired bromance themed shows due to the pure focus on friendship and loyalty. It's just a personal preference.

Besides the expected bromance between the two leads, what I DID NOT expect to love more was the beautiful siblinghood between Wei Wu Xian, Yanli, and Jiang Cheng. The brother-sister relationship between Wei Wu Xian and Yanli was so precious and utterly heartbreaking at times. Yanli's character made me wish I had a younger brother that I could protect and love that much. Those were the best scenes for me in this drama. :")

The first 2-3 episodes had a lot of information and names thrown at you and can definitely get confusing, especially for someone like me who had almost zero wuxia knowledge (I had to google about "cultivators" and "golden core") but it gets better! This drama only really started to pique my interest from Episode 15 onwards. It was solid until it came full circle to continue the timeline at the beginning of the show where Wei Wu Xian was resurrected. From there on, the storyline became a little dull for me. It wasn't bad but I think I was just expecting more.

And now onto Xiao Zhan, the actor who played Wei Wu Xian. Gosh I did not expect to fall for his smile. It doesn't really get to you in the beginning, but after about 10 episodes in, I find myself just being foolishly happy to see him smile so brightly. He has definitely gained a new fan/supporter here. I'll be looking forward to see him act in future shows and will cheer on for his career.
