I just started watching this, and it is so so good. The FL is such a fighter & all the characters got so much spunk, I love it. Team Issei all the way! To anyone considering whether to watch or not - Just go for it. Don't judge by the synopsis.
I understand where you’re coming from, but overall I liked it a lot. I think they focus more on emotion here…
I'm one of the few who didn't dislike any of the characters, but what frustrated me was that all the way till the end, we didn't truly have access to their thoughts, we didn't see them actually reflect & grow. You know the basic plot of a story has to have a conflict, a resolution etc & this didn't really have that which made me feel like I wasted my time watching this. Even slice of life shows that don't have much of a plot show you a certain character graph/growth. This lacked a plot & lacked characterisation. Probably one of the most disappointing dramas I have seen even though it's not the worst drama.

I wouldn't compare it to Love Phantom. Totally different storylines/characters. I only speak for myself and personally I didn't enjoy it. When I mean that the drama lacked substance, I meant that it didn't convey the psychology of the characters well at all. I would have liked the drama to explore their emotions better. Almost all the characters were undeveloped & I don't think the show made me connect with them at all.
J dramas are known for being heartwarming LOL. You need to watch more J dramas.
I'm one of the few who didn't find the second half that melodramatic though there were moments of melodrama. The others aren't as melodramatic, give them a try.
RE: The first sentence - that is not true at all. In fact, majority of the J dramas do not have manga-ish acting…
Mature & healthy romances, that too together, are a rarity in dramaland. But these are some J dramas I can think of in this category- Neko Colourful Love Takane No Hana Neechan No Koibito Koi Wa Deep Ni Kikazaru Koi Unmei ni, Nita Koi Horimiya Kimi no Te ga Sasayaite Iru Perfect World In This Corner of the World Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake Love Kome No Okite

I LOVE SEKAI ICHI MUZKASHI KOI!!! So so hilarious & underrated! His secretary is so awesome. Just keep watching, you'll laugh a lot. It wasn't a perfect drama, but it was a true rom com all the way.
I'm looking forward to Hometown & Hellbound too! Will check out the others as well, thank you once again.
I love dramas/movies set in a dystopian society. That reminds me, have you seen Never Let Me Go? There is a Hollywood movie on it as well, but the Japanese drama is even better.
Thank you for the heads up on Law School & Devil Judge. I tend not to enjoy legal dramas as I am in the legal profession & they don't present the legal system accurately. Nonetheless I wanted to give them a try because of the good reviews. I'll still watch them & let you know how I found them.

And yes, I do agree. K dramas don't do it for me anymore. Do give J dramas a try, esp if you love to watch a variety of stories. I'll be happy to recommend some if you want :)
Yes, I do watch some K dramas once in a while but if I have to count, it will probably be less than 10 a year which is so little. The last one I saw this year was Run On. Planning to watch Law School, Devil Judge & Beyond Evil sometime within this year. Hope they won't disappoint.
