I just finished the 1st case. It is very predictable (to point of no suspense) but the story moves fast and I like the atmosphere a lot. I hope they keep up with the spookiness.
Have a long weekend so was looking for something else to watch. Tried both The Lead and The Heir and didn't make…
Thanks for the rec! I am out of episodes of Zhan Zhao adventures to watch and just caught 1st episode of Tang Mist. The spooky atmosphere is so like season 1 of strange tales of tang dynasty (which is my favorite of the 3). The plot moves fast and holds my attention. Having this as the other show to watch just made waiting for more episodes of ZZA bearable :)
The drama has already aired 26/37 eps Will they ever go through the ML's past visions and stuff?
I don't think there will be enough time. There are 4 helpers and at episode 26, they have not arrested the 2nd yet. After that, they will need to wrap up FL story and the mystery about the linglong eye.
As it is, I am starting to wonder if the show will stop halfway through the whole story with villain thwarted for the time being but still around with 2 helpers left.
That said, I hope I am wrong. I remember one of the old justice bao shows have a case where ZZ goes undercover to infiltrate a vigilante organization named after that deity. But I'm thinking maybe they'll make ZZ an early member before he become a government official instead? It will be great to know :)
I just want to ask a question, because at first people were saying there was no romance but now I have seen some…
I am on episode 25 and I think it’s all comaderie and "found family".
To me, ML is like a big brother to FL and SML and FL is not interested in romance until she can experience the outside world and decides who/what she wants.
But it is clear they care very much about each other. So some might interpret their care as romance (especially with the editing in some of the flashbacks).
Kenny Ho played ZZ in the original Taiwanese 1993 series with 230+ episodes. They are all on YouTube now. He (plus…
I think Sun Xing from 1994 Seven Heroes and Five Gallants is still my favorite BYT. He did the proud, impulsive but still super cool and righteous very well. A lot of BYT overdo the pride and willfulness and make the character less sympathetic. His rivalry with ZZ was so much fun to watch. Vincent Chiao used to be my 2nd (because his BYT was fun and playful) but it's Alen Fang now. He is not like the typical BYT. He plays the character as a lot more vulnerable and younger. He is more ZZ 's younger brother than rival. But I just love the cast chemistry and dynamics.
I am curious about something, actually been curious for a while now though, & as @Yue commented about this…
Kenny Ho played ZZ in the original Taiwanese 1993 series with 230+ episodes. They are all on YouTube now. He (plus the 1993 Justice Bao and Gongsun Che actors) reprised the role in mainland adaptations around 2008-2012. There were 3 seasons that were consecutive and 1 separate series. That is why many people thinks of him as the Zhan Zhao.
Aside from him, Vincent Chiao is probably the other (adult) actor who has played ZZ across multiple series - Taiwanese 1994 seven heroes and five gallants and two Hong Kong ATV Justice Bao series (with 1993 Justice Bao and Gongsun Che actors). Weirdly enough, Vincent Chiao also played Bai Yu Tong in the HK Jade Justice Bao (with Ray Lui as Zhan Zhao). He made a better BYT than ZZ but he is still my 2nd favorite for his chemistry with justice bao (though Yang Yang is getting close). Aside from them, ZZ is played by the same child action star across 3 seasons of young Justice bao.
Yan Yi Kuan looks great but I can't get into that version because he does not act like ZZ at all. Though some people on this board would probably like his version (who is sneaky as hell and have no mercy).
I am a huge justice bao fan as a child, so I have probably seen at least some of every justice bao related series (even the side stories of BYT is the main detective)
I just binged through 8 episodes. The chemistry between the leads are so great! I love the dynamics between the three of them. I giggled so hard in ep 18 when ZZ pretended not to hear BYT and LL starts repeating what BYT said for ZZ. It's so cute!!
I took a break in the week to accumulate episodes and just watched episode 12. The fight in the rain is awesome!! Ok. I know it is not realistic since any assassin group would try to split up and send someone to off the official while others fight ML. But I don't care. It's been a long time since I've seen such a cool gritty fight sequence.
I saw all the critiques about ZZ going easy on villains on the board earlier. But he did tons of damage in that fight without killing in a way that's totally true to character, as expected from all the justice bao shows I grew up watching.
Fingers crossed, the show can sustain the momentum. I worry a little because I find the flashback and philosophy debate before the fight slow and draggy. It does not advance the narrative and BYT and ZZ already had the whole fight over philosophy. I really hope they won't go overboard on the politics/social commentary.
Great performances. I like the message too. I am not sure I like the artistic license taken with the story. But I can understand. My only real gripe is the ending. Do they really need to do that?
It’s like a weird loop. Especially since the courts too are corrupt. So, where does he plan to get justice for…
Hmm, you know that Zhan Zhao gave up the martial arts world to be a guard for Justice Bao, right? That is a classic folk tale that has been reimagined and retold many times. Justice Bao and his team is the "clear sky" restoring justice and rule of law for the common people. Even if this is a wuxia focused re-imagination, I'd expect the show (especially ML) to try to stay true to that core value.
Who wrote the story for this drama? The villains can kill and cause harm, but the hero never fights back seriously…
As others pointed out, ZZ is a government official. He can't just take justice into his own hand. That's the difference between him and BYT. BYT is from the martial arts world and all about exerting justice quickly (eye-for-eye). The two haven't clashed on this yet in the show, but I am 100% sure they will. They always do in every version.
ZZ chose to leave the martial arts world to help justice bao and be an official because he believes that can help more people in the long run. He's stayed true to that in every version and I'd expect him to do the same here. If you think pursuing justice through law is too slow for you, there is always BYT to root for :)
Up to episode 9, why do I feel that Alan Fang is acting more like the ML than Yang Yang? He seems more astute,…
That is the typical "cat and mouse" dynamics for a Justice Bao inspired show. Bai Yu Tang is eye catching and impulsive and Zhan Zhao is more quiet and laid back. BYT has a lot of pride so ZZ typically just lets him lead (and pulls him back if necessary)
As it is, I am starting to wonder if the show will stop halfway through the whole story with villain thwarted for the time being but still around with 2 helpers left.
