hands down and easily the best adaptation. the best version of characters, relationships, arcs, storylines. The best directing and editing. Like genuinely and thoroughly so good
According to the novel summary, she retains her memories...so does she start off being petty or something?
He fell for her I think by the first or second lifetime?? and kept those feelings through all his lifetimes. One of my fav tropes 😆. Also their banter and love/hate relationship is just really fun (esp when for most of it he is smitten with her)
Omg ur making me wanna reread the novel, it’s been long LOL

Yeah LOL I forget how she did it tbh but she somehow gains leverage over the ML in first life. Then in the second, the roles reverse (but also not rlly hehe 😉) and these are the things I want faithfully portrayed in the novel. How: (spoiler in next comment just in case)
it is so so so so so so worth it. I was obsessed with father is strange, but I think I came out of this drama…
Right after this I watched “be my dream family” and omfg, so good. You have to push through a bit more in the beginning but the payoff in this drama is nearly unprecedented.
Before watching once again, my fav family dramas were: - five enough - my father is strange - glorious day
My criticism of the FL of this drama is pretty harsh, but it is based on what the ML says from the get- go and…
She was severely bullied and completely ostracized from her peers. Very real and rigid beauty standards isolated her as a child and growing up, of course that will have an impact on how she perceives and reacts to the world. This isn’t just “her thinking her face is the reason,” it’s literally what happened to her as a child and throughout her adolescence.
This whole drama is about her gaining the confidence to make meaningful connections, and realizing literally what you said: beauty is only skin deep and people are so much more than that. But the drama also shows that we /do/ live in a very superficial world and your perceived attractiveness DOES have an impact on how people treat you.
I loved seeing her character development. She started trusting the people around her and believing she is worthy of love. She DOES grow and does stand up for herself, and she does acknowledge her unhealthy framework of evaluating people based on looks. It’s something she’s inevitably internalized through her life experiences, but when she realizes it harms and dehumanizes other people, she makes a concerted effort to change her instinct and thinking. Kyung Soo helps her on that path. She helps him too, to be less aloof, to be more aware of how his privileges allow him to navigate society with an ease that is never afforded to her or many others. They both grew as people individually and as a couple, and I loved that.
Idk obviously we are allowed to see things differently but considering her circumstances and life experiences, I actually think she was pretty brave from the getgo. I get how she can be frustrating for the viewer to watch sometimes, but it’s an overall response that lacks empathy imo
decided to drop this one - can someone recommend me an actually good Chinese romcom? seems like i always drop…
I used to have the same issue, specifically with modern c-dramas. I dropped this one too. But that’s since changed, and there have now been several I’ve enjoyed to the end!! However, my top 3: - you are my glory - legally romance - skate into love
