Look at it from the character's viewpoint and not relate it to the actual actor. He is downtrodden, heart broken and angry. IMO being a chef with all those wonderful useful tools at his disposal, I was not going to be the one to get a beat down, by going up against a guy who exercises all the time with my bare hands. Oh no... the hands will be used for flinging stuff at that POS.
