Had a bit of a rough middle/endish bit, but the stellar first 10 episodes and the FABULOUSLY satisfying ending, in addition to the short and sweet runtime, make this an absolute win in my books. I wish it was longer because of the ridiculous chemistry between the leads, but I accept it for what it is.
Also, hell this drama was funny? Like, what? SO funny!?
Here for my semi-annual comment to warn anybody looking to watch this that cares even a little bit for decent and respectful portrayals of mental illness, decent writing, non-annoying female leads, or a plot that actually goes anywhere: stay far away from this garbage.
Will she ever stop screaming? What kind of psychiatrist screams all the time? Annoying!
Yup. She is an awful psychiatrist too, for nearly the entire time she acts like some random person completely unequipped to do anything for anybody. This drama is pretty terrible anyway, but Hwang Jung Eum and her incessant screaming really disappointed me in this role compared to another HJE/Ji Sung drama I've watched.
First ep gave me a panic attack bc while I love horror, jump scares are downright dangerous for me. Probably not that scary and not that substantial, but decent enough if you're desperate. I imagine other episodes rely on jump scares as well?
So I'm about halfway through this. (finally getting with the program and watching recent popular dramas instead of just like, rewatching BBJX. Lol.) And I just feel the urge to say that while I dont know the exact details, I obviously know the trajectory the drama is gonna go at this point, and that while they don't end up together... I really feel like Fuheng is Yingluo's soul mate. This isn't a love triangle with a clear winner and loser, it's the choice she would make with her heart and the choice she'll make with her head.
I love this drama! I think despite his personality disorder, he really does care about his wife. For a sociopath, people tend to be valued depending on ehat they can do for a person- in his case he seems to believe he values her quite objectively because she keeps his father at bay, but of course there is a reason she does that! Because he feels comfortable and happy with her. He loves her in the only way he knows how. It's interesting to see them make sure we know that he hasn't killed anybody- not for certain. It gives me hope that this might not end as sadly and tragically as it might otherwise. Of course I do love a tragic ending.
I feel like he just reached his big break because of King, and now he's enlisting before he can ride that wave and really make a name for himself. Unfortunate. I hope his career can pick back up when he returns.
My theory is that anybody who watched City Hunter immediately called the episode 13 "plot twist." Of COURSE that was Lee Min Ho in that hat and mask. Of course it was. There's no mistaking that silhouette. Lmao.
Also, even if this drama completely turns to garbage in it's last episodes- not that I'm anticipating it will- I will always appreciate it for it's shameless anti-Japanese imperialism pro-Korean narrative. A drama about a utopian Korea where Japan and the US minded their own goddamn business and let Korea do it's thing? We have no choice but to stan.
Plot twists I saw coming since episode 1: THE ONE AT THE END OF EPISODE 13. (This is a good thing. The payoff is sweet.)
They're slowly unfolding the delicate plot they've built up and it is so satisfying. I genuinely do not see where all the negativity for this drama is coming from, unless we're talking about the heavy handed product placement.
Damn, this drama is really good. And I don't say that lightly. The romance is it's weakest part to be honest, but the leads are so charismatic alone it doesn't pull the drama down too much. The mystery, giving you just enough scraps to put it together but enough gradual raising of the stakes that the plot bit you figured out half an hour ago is nothing compared to the new thing. I also love how morally gray our male lead is, and how utterly competent our female one is.
I watched a ton of Running Man years ago, but it got to a point where it was really boring and repetitive. It seemed like they had a lot of girl group guests and they would spend like half an hour at the beginning of every episode just making them dance and do aegyo stuff. Ugh.
That being said, it seems like RM is sort of better nowadays- does anybody know around where I should pick it back up?
I thought I would miss S3 dearly, and while I do miss Cha Tae Hyun and JJY (he was my favourite before everything), and of course I miss Yoon Shi Yoon plenty... Season 4 is so good. The cast jives very well, and they are much nicer to each other. It makes a more pleasant viewing experience.
2D1N is a weekly variety show, and it's going to be airing until it's cancelled or they decide to move onto Season 5. The episode count on MDL is just a placeholder- you can probably expect there to be hundreds of episodes, and MDL will likely keep updating the episode count as more and more episodes come out.
I wish I wasn't broken enough to be sad that this delightful little friendship-centric slice of life drama is probably not going to have any romance between the chaebol and the chick (tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme... chaebol and the chick)
Good start, okay middle with some real heartwarming lovely moments despite some hilarious contrivances, satisfying enough ending with an open end. I enjoyed it thoroughly and looked forward to every episode. I'd say it's on the positive side of a bit above average. Very nearly top tier, but doesn't quite reach it. If you don't mind unbelievable plot shenanigans to the nth degree and a sense the writer is patting themselves on the back by having one good idea elaborated upon, every subsequent character who discovers said idea having plenty of time to react to it to the point of extreme repetitiveness, and not giving certain characters much to do but stand there and look pretty... you'll enjoy this a little more than I did.
The busker wearing a school uniform, my heart! ㅜoㅜ He's just a kid, in a foreign country, undergoing a dangerous undercover mission... I started crying tbh
