This insanity is difficult for me to deal with.
I live in the US, where more often than not, a celeb who hits the skids due to addiction, mental illness, and other non-violent offenses is welcomed back into the public sphere after treatment, jail, or whatever. The general vibe is that the public roots for them to overcome and succeed, rather than seeing them tainted for life with no hope of redemption.
Of course, regarding "moral" issues that Korean media loves to foam at the mouth over, such as premarital sex/pregnancy, extramarital affairs, and the like, it will be reported on but generally gets a big yawn from the public. People are always interested in reading trash about celebs, but they don't punish them at the box office or ticket counter or cashiers counter.
And NO ONE gets dragged or canceled for dating or even cohabitating without benefit of marriage, for god's sake. The dating thing is the sickest aspect of toxic fan culture.
Now, there will be exceptions when a celeb does something extra egregious, is violent, or otherwise criminal. Even then, celebs make comebacks after serving time, it depends on the circumstances.
But, in the US, you don't have this sadistic netizen culture in which people take absolute, ecstatic joy in destroying celebrities.

Amazing and disgusting. Since when did the Chinese Communist government care about a private citizen's "privacy?" lol Hey, thanks for googling all this and posting it. It's always better to know than to wonder. :)

Unbelievable, that ass-backwards concern for "privacy" only applies to the suspect/offender and the same reasoning is not applied to the celebrity during the law enforcement/media "witch hunt" that always erupts when a celeb is accused. Exhibit A: Lee Sun Kyun, who was driven to suicide by the police and media, while the names of his accusers were kept private.
I live in the US, and I actually agree that suspect's names should not be released until they are CONVICTED of a crime, as opposed to just arrested. It pisses me off when media blares names and pictures of people who are supposedly presumed innocent.

So, are you saying it is acceptable to trash and destroy famous people, often driving them to despair and suicide, by publishing all the dirt thrown at them, including the FALSE dirt, but that when it comes to the people who do the trashing of celebs, they must be protected at all costs?
I'm not underestimating anything, and what you seem to be saying is bullshit netizen talk, justifying this horrendous double standard. Let this person be hounded, let their family be harassed. And let millions of people see what happens when you slander and defame people online or anywhere else. Maybe other murderous netizens out there will think twice before doing the same.

That is complete bullshit. You're making shit up.
You sound like a netizen rationalizing the netizen mindset that you have complete ownership of entertainers' private lives because they perform to the public. You are mistaken.
Public information is public information. Once someone commits a crime or civil offense and their name enters the public record, THEY are a public figure. It's this person's PUBLIC slander of WYB that made them a public figure. What happens to them as a result of their own actions is no one's liability except theirs and whoever harms them, if that's what it comes to.

Who is "they?" The article says "name partially withheld," but does not say who is withholding it. Any decent reporter should be able to find out easily enough.
Again, why the concern over a perpetrator when no such courtesy is ever shown to a celebrity?
Because there are so many insane fans that posting someone's name is akin to putting them in harm's way as it…
hmmm...but how can publishing or mentioning the name of someone whose name is in public court records be anything other than reporting facts? They put themselves in "harm's way." MDL and other outlets don't seem hesitant to reveal the names of celebrities who are targeted and falsely accused of all kinds of shit.
maybe he was keeping the underwear only half open? for the kukubird to come out?
One of my nicknames for the warrior prudes who hang out on MDL and try to police the presentation and viewing of anything even vaguely sexual in nature. The MDL Puritanical Church Girls. I used to call them Church Ladies, but most of them are clearly about 13 years old.
Why are the full names of accused or even convicted criminals so often protected under these circumstances? Why shouldn't their names be part of the public record? I have seen the same practice in Korea, beginning with the bimbos who blew up Lee Sun Kyun's life and eventually killed him by slander and suicide. There is no attempt to shield the names of celebrities who are dragged into shit like this. Is this an Asian thing?
I'd love to know how much $$$ this psycho has to pay WYB.
It's also absurd to move in with a guy who tricked you, beat you up and left you on the outside in the trash.…
It was also the embarrassingly stupid way the scene in the parking lot was portrayed that annoyed me. Chihiro suddenly became this cowering, sort of useless person who just lay there waiting at several points, when even a semi-normal person would have at least tried to escape.
I am totally into people making bad life choices, which often drives gripping drama, but why and how they make those choices have to be convincing.
I get why Chihiro moved in with Haoran. First off, he's codependent as hell. Also, he had nowhere to live and no other options. Secondly, he is infatuated with Haoran. Moving in made sense to me. I like deeply flawed characters who make bad choices, as long as I get the why and how of it.
After the parking lot scene, I remembered from the first watch that it was downhill from there, so I wasn't about to watch a second time.
it’s kind of funny bcz i once said something almost like this (well not exactly). i just said a certain drama…
I agree with everything you said, and thank you for saying it. :)
I do exactly as you describe when watching a drama as it airs. I wait until the show is finished to rate, and I don't rate hysterically high just because I love what I saw. But, I feel this one is authentically special, and when I saw the "low" 8.1 rating, I was annoyed. :P I think of the rating system as ten stars being an A, nine a B, 8 a C, etc. Thus, everything below 7 is an F to me. So, when I saw this show being in the "C" or average class, for the first time, I decided to bitch about it. WAATH is anything but average.
I have said many times that MDL ratings are generally upside-down. Shit gets 9s and good stuff gets 6s. I'm a BL watcher and this is especially true in that category. I avoid the 9.2-rated Thai garbage like the plague.

The "kukubird..." :D
I don't doubt that what you say is actually happening, but I'm wondering how you know it IS happening...?
So, they watch a little bit of it...?
